Cape Breton Island has been voted by Travel & Leisure Magazine as one of the best islands in the world! We certainly think so. Our farmhouse on 56 acres is a 5 minute drive from Cabot Links, recently touted as the best golf course in Canada (and 44th best in the world). We are on one of the most scenic roads in the area, wonderful for biking and long walks. The house is bright and airy, and has been redone (with a newly remodeled kitchen suitable for foodies) to maintain the charm of a 100 year old farmhouse, but with high-speed wireless internet! There are spectacular water or mountain views from each room. The beach on the property is a stroll across the fields, and the 3 mile long Inverness public beach, considered one of the most beautiful in the North Atlantic and known for its plaster rock cliffs, is a 5 minute drive. Water temperature is in the low 70s (20s) in midsummer and is comfortable for swimming. An hour from Cape Breton Highlands National Park, there is also salmon fishing in the nearby Margaree River and hiking and walking trails within 10 minutes.
This is a wonderful home with lots of comfort, charm and beautiful views. We loved the kitchen, which is big and well equipped for people who love to cook. The sunsets are magnificent and the location was perfect for our many day trips to hike, see puffins, and go listen to some fabulous fiddlers. The owners have thought of every need, including bikes and an interesting collection of books to peruse. We loved every moment!
My boyfriend and I stayed in this cottage for the weekend, and had the most lovely getaway we've ever had. Inverness is a beautiful area, with beautiful beaches, amazing local music and little restaurants. The house itself was just wonderful - full of thoughtful details and amenities, like mountain bikes for our use, a garden with fresh vegetables, a very well equipped kitchen with a sound system, and an amazing view of the ocean. We didn't even need the car to enjoy the scenery We could just jump on the bikes and ride up the coast line on a dirt road, enjoying many views of the cliffs and ocean. It was spectacular! We got engaged over the weekend, and it felt like a perfect, magical spot. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
We were looking for a place to get away for some quiet time, yet close enough to civilization to do some day-trips / sightseeing of Cape Breton Island. We found it here! This property is only a few minutes drive from Inverness on a quiet country road, with a huge, waterfront yard filled with wild flowers.
The house is very well equipped and ideal for a family of 4.
The location is ideal, with day-trips possible to: Cheticamp, Highlands National Park, Mabou, Inverness beach, etc...
Our only regret was that we only stayed a week! :-)
This wonderful little farm house has all yhe above and more; it was the perfect base for getting to know the natural beauty, culture and warm people of Cape Breton. Hundred year old "quirkiness" combined with a very complete selection of well chosen amenities made us feel at home the moment we walked through the door. Natural beauty abounds the moment you step outside the door, from the tiniest of wildflowers to the rugged shoreline. Relaxing by the firepit with a glass of wine watching a spectacular sunset...the perfect way to end the day. If your timing is good you should be able to enjoy a fantastic selection of produce from the beautiful little garden.
My family and I have just returned from a wonderful week in this lovely farmhouse in Broad Cove, Cape Breton. The weather was fantastic - sun every day with a wonderful ocean breeze! We spent most nights in front of the fire with family and friends watching the breath taking sunsets. We were within five minutes of two beaches - one being (in my opinion) the most beautiful beach in on the Island in Inverness as well as about 15 minute from the Margaree River. Both the owners and the caretakers of the property, which came very well equipped, were great to deal with.
My wife and I rented the farmhouse for ten days in June this year. We had a lovely time. The landscape is beautiful and the house is well maintained. It's also decorated with placid taste. We brought along our beloved dog and she thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors as much as we did.
The house is located about half the way up the coast of the Gulf of St. Lawrence so you're in easy proximity to the Cape Breton National Park and every other natural wonder the island has to offer. We didn't dine out during the trip, preferring to stay in and enjoy the quietude. However, the area has plenty of seafood cuisine to choose from.
We wouldn't hesitate to visit again.
