Photos and Description of the Sequoia Park vacation house rental
House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This attractive, three bedroom is nestled among the orange and mandarin groves of McKellar Farms. Remodeled in the fall of 2007, the house has central heating and air conditioning, direct TV, full kitchen, wireless internet access, washer and dryer, sunroom, and much more. Decorated with original Albert Marshall paintings of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the 8 room house is well furnished and comfortable, with a big back porch and pleasant patio looking over the landscaped grounds. The gardens are so attractive that small signs now tell visitors the names of the plants.

In the late 1920's, nestled among the orange and mandarin orchards of McKellar Farms, Hugh McKellar planted seven native Sycamores and began planning the family homestead. His plan was to build a home and buildings of the native adobe clay, and by 1938, he had created a work building and a wash house over the cistern that would supply water for many years.

Using granite hauled from the Big Meadows area between the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, he laid out walkways by hand. In 1939, he built the foundation for his home. It was unusual for the times, but Hugh then arranged for his house in Ivanhoe to be picked up, placed on a truck, and moved to the ranch. Hugh McKellar and his wife Vernice slept in the home that very night.

Hugh and Vernice had two children, Norene and Robert, and a second house was moved to the property when the two were too old to share a bedroom. Bob's House later became The Bunkhouse for employees, and then in 2006 and 2007 was remodeled and redecorated into an attractive cottage for travelers. The bunkhouse sleeps 4 and is also available to rent separately.

The lovely grounds are now rented often for weddings, special events, receptions, and family reunions.

About The Owner

Bob McKellar, owner of McKellar Farms, opened his childhood farm house to the public in 2008. The home was originally in a different location in the small town of Ivanhoe and McKellar's father built a new foundation and moved the family home to McKellar Farms in 1939. Today, Bob McKellar shares the legacy of his family farm tradition with travelers around the world and is passionate about educating visitors about agriculture and family farmers.
