Further details for this vacation cottage rental in Hershey, Pennsylvania

An Old Testimonial: One cannot visit Aberdeen without being impressed with the beauties of nature along the streams - the waters, the trees and the rocks. - Mabel S. Eshelman July 11, 1932

Physical, Natural and Ecological Features: The Aberdeen Mills property consists of wooded hillsides and wetlands, rocky meadows and a steep forested ravine, dotted with large boulders, through which the Conewago Creek flows in a series of picturesque rapids, pools and waterfalls. The property provides excellent habitat for wildlife, fish and other aquatic life. The property is situated on a prominent diabase ridge which has weathered extensively to expose the large boulders and rock outcrops which are prevalent throughout the property. The majority of the Aberdeen section of the Conewago Creek is thickly wooded along its banks, though the lower stretch of the stream opens up into a grassy meadow that was used in years past to graze sheep.

Just Enjoy: -Great home base for sight seeing in Lebanon, Dauphin, Lancaster, York, Cumberland & Adams counties. -Be busy &/ or relax! -Help with animal care at the barn or just enjoy the peaceful pleasure of observing the goats, alpacas, lambs, chickens and cats. -Pick strawberries & other berries on site. - In any season, Central PA offers many possible adventures. Historically themed itineraries & other suggestions available upon request.

Ski: Ski Roundtop is 30 miles from Aberdeen Mills. Although they offer skiing & tubing in the winter, they offer many other activities year round such as paintball, ropes courses, etc.

Golf: Par Line Golf Course is 2.4 Miles from Aberdeen Mills.

Other Activities: Fly fishing, street rod shows, free Sunday concerts in Lancaster, farmers markets.

Even in November

Review Submitted: November 17, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009
Even with the leaves down and the weather starting to turn, we were so delighted with the charm and character of this pretty historic property. The owners were so welcoming and the cottage was spotless. I plan to come back with my kids so we can take advantage of all the historical things in the area. Loved our visit.

Wonderful Vacation

Sandy & Jason Sarasota, FL
Review Submitted: October 31, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We had a wonderful vacation and found the location in Elizabethtown to be very central to many attractions. We went to Hershey, Gettysberg, Lancaster, Kennett Square and Cabela's in Hamburg as day trips.

The property was beautiful, loved the kitties and chickens, the creek and incredible fall colors. The house was clean, very comfortable and well stocked for a vacation rental. Our hosts were freindly and available if we had questions about the area. Would love to visit Longwood garden's in Kennett Square again in a different sason.

Now we got a cat, too!

nycitykids New York, NY, USA
Review Submitted: September 15, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our family brought my parents here for a two day trip away from NYC, and it was wonderful! The weather was not cooperative for enjoying all the benefits of the this lovely haven, but it's not just the hiking and swimming hole that will win you over! The hospitality and home were both warm and welcoming, and enjoyed our time touring the working farm and the grist mill with all it's history! We also enjoyed a short exploration of the woods and then a campfire between the bouts of rain and summer thunderstorms! Our favorite place was on the porch, where we had dinner and breakfasts (made w/ farm fresh eggs, of course!) and time to swing and play with the cats. Our kids, 6yrs and 3 yrs, fell in love with the cats so much, that later that week we went to the ASPCA to adopt our own loving cat, Melba! When the rain was at it's worst, we took a trip into town- for Chocolate World! Thank you so much! We look forward to coming back next summer!
Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a wonderful time despite the weather. We enjoyed meeting your family. Congratulations on your new kitty!

Tranquility on the Conewago

Cycler Harrisburg, PA
Review Submitted: July 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had a wonderful weekend in this historic two story stone cottage overlooking a historic 235 year old grist mill. Two blissfully quiet days save for the constant sound of water rushing over the titanic boulders perfectly placed in the middle of the Conewago creek. We spent the afternoon canoeing down the creek, and the evening relaxing on Adirondack chairs before an outdoor fire pit. In the morning, there were fresh eggs in the refrigerator, and a kitten on the porch. I took my morning coffee on the front porch. It was a moment of absolute tranquility that I will treasure.

The description was accurate with respect to the location, the layout, and the general amenities. The property was rustic yet clean and well-maintained. The Cottage was furnished with an eclectic blend of new and old fashioned but comfortable furniture in keeping with the age and nature of the property.

The first night we ate at the Black Griffin, only 3 miles away (at the edge of town). The food was standard fare, well presented, and moderately priced. The restaurant was clean, well maintained and well staffed.

The location of the Miller’s cottage is ideal for kayaking the creek, walking the rail trail, touring the old mill, or taking the family to Hershey for the day. Tucked neatly into 39 acres of undeveloped woods and fields, along the Conewago Creek, the location only seems remote. This historic working farm with a few alpacas, goats, chickens, and even hydroponic pick your own strawberries, is only three or four miles from the nearest town with all the basic amenities and friendly locals. It's central to all the attractions of Hershey, Mount Gretna, and just 20 minutes from Harrisburg or Lancaster’s factory outlets and Amish Country.

The proprietors provided remarkable customer service. They were hospitable, cordial and available. They made us feel welcome and even appreciated. I would recommend this property to any history and outdoor enthusiast looking to get away close to Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster or the Conewago rail trail.

The Perfect Getaway

Satisfied Reviewer Philadelphia, PA, USA
Review Submitted: July 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
For our first trip with our nine-week-old, we had two criteria: nearby and peaceful. This tranquil setting, within two hours of Philadelphia, satisfied both. We were won over by the hospitality, the fascinating history of the property and the buildings (including the house where we stayed), the accessibility of the various farm animals and private hiking trails (on the property!), and the complete peace and stillness of simply sitting on the wide front porch, overlooking the meadow and trees beyond. We recommend this place to anyone seeking such a retreat, and would definitely consider returning, especially when our son is older and could appreciate all that this spot has to offer.
