STUNNING COLUMBIA GORGE VIEW HOUSE

Stevenson House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Just 1 hour (50 miles) east of Portland, and 20 minutes west of Hood River, the interior of this eclectic 2,000 sq. ft. four-bedroom, two-bath home is bursting with personality.

Our house sits at the end of a private gravel road, perched on a flat lot that offers complete privacy and a stunning panoramic view of the Columbia Gorge, Columbia River, Bridge of the Gods and surrounding 3,000+ foot gorge ridgelines of Oregon and Washington.

Think of our home as your base camp for virtually any recreational activity you and your family and friends enjoy. Year-round recreational activities including hiking, biking, golf, whitewater rafting & kayaking, windsurfing & kiting, downhill & cross country skiing are within easy reach in any direction for the avid outdoor lover or young families with children.

Three of the northern Cascade mountains are within a 60 minute drive, including the famous Mt. St. Helens volcano and Mt. Adams in Washington, as well as Oregon’s Mt. Hood featuring winter snow sports and summer lakes and hiking.

Our home is less than 20 minutes from Oregon’s majestic Multnomah Falls, the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation, plummeting 620 feet, and 100 other waterfalls within the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area that are accessible via well-maintained trails of varying difficulty.

The historic town of Stevenson, Washington is just five minutes down the hill and features great restaurants, quaint shops and themed community festivals nearly every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Three natural hot springs spas, several championship golf courses, and numerous fine dining options are also less than 20 minutes away in Stevenson, Carson, or North Bonneville on the Washington side of the Gorge, or in Hood River on the Oregon side.

A budding wine industry has also taken root along both sides of the Gorge, with over 30 wineries located within 15-45 minutes from our home. Or take a Columbia River cruise on the historic Sternwheeler and experience the river like the early northwest settlers. From there, visit Bonneville Dam and watch the mighty fall and spring runs of Chinook and Steelhead salmon fighting their way upstream to spawn.

The options are simply endless.

After a day of outdoor activities, you can return to a soothing soak in the hot tub while you enjoy the panoramic Gorge view, enjoy a game of pool, DirectTV, lots of classic board games, cards, puzzles, a DVD/VHS player, and GameCube and Sega video game systems with an assortment of games, then relax with a good book or movie beside the woodstove. High-speed wireless Internet access is also available.

Three of the four bedrooms contain a queen bed and the fourth bedroom has two twins. There is also a twin available in an ante-room connected to the master bedroom. The layout is perfect for a large family or two families with kids.

The full kitchen has like-new appliances and cabinetry and a ceramic vegetable mosaic backsplash hand-made by the owners. A full laundry makes it easy to pack light for a long stay.

This unique home is a perfect place to spend time with family and friends in magical surroundings. Pets OK. Please no smoking.

CHARMING HOME WITH SPECTACULAR VIEWS!

  • 5 of 5
What a beautiful, welcoming, charming, well-appointed home! We gathered for weekend from California, Wisconsin, Alabama and Washington to honor family, past and present. Memories were shared and made, tears and laughter ensued, games celebrated, and marshmallows roasted. The house was perfect for this gathering! The views were absolutely breathtaking, and everyone enjoyed exploring the property inside and out. We heard delighted exclamations of "Hey, look at this!" from everyone with each new discovery. The owners have equipped this property so thoughtfully and comfortably--it was perfect.

WHAT A VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
We have rented over 20 vacation homes, and this one is at the top of our list. Stunning aptly describes this home inside and out. Nice, quiet location. The view from the deck and living room is awesome. Would have enjoyed watching the river traffic and trains along the gorge more if we hadn't been there for the wettest September on record. Still, we had a great time hiking, visiting local parks, wineries, eating at local restaurants, etc. So much to do in this area. Our dog loved the neighbor dogs who came to play with her. The home inside (and out) has everything a traveler could ask for, plus the decor is fantastic -- like living in an art studio. Saw something new everytime we looked around. The location is perfect -- close to Stevenson (very charming town) and Cascade Locks. Also a short drive to Hood River, White Salmon, or Portland. It was worth the almost 3,000m drive, and we hope to return next September.

TOP OF THE LIST

  • 5 of 5
We (my wife and I, three grown children/step children, two teenage grandsons and an occasional girl friend) have taken a family vacation every year for the past 10 years to help all of us - from all over the country from Washington, DC, to Vancouver, BC - deepen our friendships with one another. We have stayed in VRBO houses from Virginia to Oregon and lots of places in between. This one is at the top of all of our lists!!

The house easily sleeps 9 people in various configurations with lots of space to spread out: deck (with a great view over the Columbia River and its surrounding mountains plus a hot tub and grill), studio, roomy and comfortable TV room, pool room, large living/dining room, large kitchen AND those 4 bedrooms and various couches. Plus two full baths. The house is nicely spread out so we could gather in different places in small and larger groups or find some solitary spot for a more pensive moment.

It's all comfortable and clean and practical - and beautiful in a slightly quirky way. Everything is in good or better shape, nothing ls overdone or requires extra special care. In a word, it is extremely livable.

What did we do for 10 days? Talked; read; played games at night; watched TV and videos at all hours (without disturbing anyone's sleep); won and lost at pool; cooked salmon, steelhead and crabs; visited the Stevenson fair; admired the pigs and goats and the kids who showed them off; maintained our record of fishing several days and catching nothing; hiked lots of great trails; ate good dinners at at least two Stevenson restaurants, sampled chai in two friendly coffee shops and drank local craft beer in three nearby breweries; talked with lots of people - from many walks of life and all quite friendly; swam at two Columbia River beeches; and lots more.

Ron was vacationing elsewhere, but was immediately available to answer questions (how do we temperature in the hot tub, etc), so we never had a problem that couldn't be fixed easily.

All in all - probably our best family vacation spot - by consensus - in 10 years!

PERFECT THANKSGIVING GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
This house worked pefectly for our group of 5 adults/1 black lab as we celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday. It was big enough for each of us to have our own space and could certainly hold many more. We did bring a lot of our own cooking gear, but the kitchen was eqiupped to handle a turkey dinner with all the fixings and had plenty of counterspace on which to prepare it all. With the dining/sitting room right there, those not cooking could still converse, play guitars, and be part of the group without getting in the way.

We arrived during a cold, torrential downpour, but the gas fireplace in the pink room heated up the main rooms pretty quickly. Each room has its own source of heat, so we could adjust it to our personal comfort zones for sleeping.

We had the most fun in the other common rooms, with a pool tournament, a table perfect for jigsaw puzzles, and comfy couches on which to watch movies. We bbq'd on the deck outside and also roasted marshmallows at the fire pit while toasting the beautiful sunset.

Even our lab found some friends in neighbor dogs Rocky and Odie, who appear scary at first but are quite well trained and very lovable. They came over every chance they could get, and the 3 dogs had a great time frolicing in the enormous yard. Some young deer also visited us.

The town of Stevenson is pretty small and most places were closed for the holiday. But, the Bridge of the Gods, brightly decorated for the holidays on the Oregon side, provided quick access to Hood River and any other nearby towns you might want to visit. There is a minimal toll each way.

On the Washington side, there are lots of nearby places to hike. The scenic drive is amazing. Many Lewis & Clark historical markers. For shoppers heading west from I-5 to Stevenson, you will come across the Pendleton Outlet Mall, which is quite the deal even without the holiday sales.

This house is clean, comfy, has everything you need, and we highly recommend it. It is full of color and life. The mosaics are unique. The paintings in the pink room look like originals, maybe by the owners?, and they fit perfectly with the setting. Ron was very helpful, immmediately answering any questions and even providing a history of how the house (2 houses originally) got there. Next time we stay, we will ask if we are allowed to use the art supplies in the studio. We were dying to do some mosaics. The house can't help but inspire your artistic side!

COZY HOME, TONS OF CHARACTER, SPECTACULAR VIEW, ALWAYS HOT HOT TUB AND PERFECT FOR A CELEBRATION!

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I stayed at this home over a weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday. I could not have imagined a more perfect place for such an occassion! It's proximity to Portland was convenient while still allowing us to feel like we were away in the clouds, hills and forest. Situated above Stevenson, WA, the home has stellar views of the Columbia River Gorge. Rain and shifting clouds only made the view from the huge windows and hot tub more dramatic. Speaking of the hot tub (essential in my hunts for rental homes), this one was the most spacious, and reliable I've ever enjoyed. There was plenty of room for people to sleep in beds, two inviting living areas (each with a wood or gas-burning stove), and thoughtful touches throughout the home. Another must-have for us is that the rental home is dog-friendly. Our pooch had a ball! There is plenty of room for dogs to explore the huge lawn and property. The icing on the cake was that the owners are easy going, responsive wanted us to have a great stay as much as we did. THANK YOU! I highly recommend taking some time to enjoy this gem in the gorge!
