COZY YET SPACIOUS LAKEFRONT COTTAGE, IDEAL FOR ALL SEASONS

Kinderhook Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Mstr. bedrms, 2 bathrms. Sleeps 5. Ideal for one/two couples or a family of 5

If you are looking for a 'party' house, this is not the place for which you are surfing. Rather, one or two mature couples, or a family of four or five who wish to spend some quality time together are the guests who will get the most from this lovely lakeside setting.

SUMMERTIME AT THE LAKE

Kinderhook Lake is a good size 'fishing hole' of 375 aces. It is stocked with Walleye, Northern Pike, Perch and Bass. Since the Lake is just outside the door, you can fish right off the bank. Our own grandchildren have a lot of fun going out with their fishing poles and then coming inside with their trophies, asking their moms to cook them. It’s great for swimming, too.

The Norman Rockwell Museum, Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, the NYS Capitol, Tanglewood, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Lindenwald (the family home of Martin Van Buren, our 8th President and the first one born as an American citizen!), Saratoga Race Track, Lake George and “The Great Escape” amusement park – all are close enough to provide easy and entertaining day trips. (Always check schedules before a visit.)

"B---J---

We had a great time at Little Cottage last week. We swam every day, then hiking in the conservation areas in Columbia county. We also visited every farm stand we saw, and we cooked delicious meals. Your cottage was just as we expected or better. Very clean and comfortable. I would recommend your Cottage to anyone. 5 of 5 stars. Thanks again, Ken...Teri..."

A QUIET AND RELAXING STAY

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here in mid-August and absolutely loved it. The house was immaculately clean, the location was quiet and the lake was lovely. The property is close enough to Hudson and Albany for day trips. But if you just want to relax, do a bit of reading and swimming and enjoy the view, this spot is perfect.

Owner's Response: It gives me great pleasure to have guests in my home who enjoy and appreciate it as much as my family and I do.
Regardless of the time of year, there is something special to do or see in this lovely part of New York State and the "Little Cottage" house is the ideal base from which to explore.
As to its relaxing and peaceful atmosphere-that, too, is present twelve months a year.

EXCELLENT COTTAGE - WE FELT RIGHT AT HOME

  • 5 of 5
We loved everything about the Little Cottage. Betty Jo, the owner, was very cordial and helpful throughout the reservation and she was very accommodating. The house had everything we needed, including plenty of dishes and all necessary appliances. The house was clean and modern (inside) with very nice furnishings. We had a chance to grill outside a couple of evenings and enjoy the evenings on the deck in front of the lake.
The area was very pleasant and we had plenty to do with our kids during the weekend. We visited a couple of farms and attended their fall festivals.
We will come back next year during the month of October. It is peaceful and relaxing.

Owner's Response: Many years ago when my youngsters and nephew were little (now in their 30's!), my sister and I had so much fun taking them to the Fall/Halloween festivities on neighboring farms. I am so glad that this lovely family was able to experience that same sense of joy with their youngsters.

SPECIAL GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
The little cottage is a perfect place to getaway and leave all the stresses of "the real world" home. It was cozy, warm, clean and so welcoming as soon as we opened the door. My husband and I loved the natural light and sitting on the deck overlooking the lake. Betty Jo was so lovely and gave us terrific suggestions on some of the local activities and restaurants and was so responsive in her communication with us.

We loved reading all about the history of the house and the family when we arrived. The sunsets are amazing and there's always something happening on the water, but yet its still so serene. Hannaford's is an awesome grocery store where you can pick up all your items for grilling! And one day, I hope to own a stove like yours too!!!

My father was able to join us for a few days and he loved the lake as well... The moments I spent with my father and husband sitting on the deck overlooking the lake will stay with me for a lifetime. Thank you for sharing your home with us and everyone else!!!

Owner's Response: Of all the gracious comments made by our guest, I am most touched by the fact that the precious memory of sharing time at the Little Cottage with her father and husband will be with her for the rest of her life. After seven decades, I too recall with great joy the happy times I had at the Lake with my parents, grandmother, sisters, cousins, friends. Time does not erase the memory of those priceless days that we lovingly shared with each other.

PERFECT GETAWAY VACATION HOME

  • 5 of 5
The Little Cottage is truly a special place! The house is extremely clean, comfortable and well maintained. Beautiful KinderHook Lake is refreshing on a hot summer day and quite peaceful during the week. My husband, our six year old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt re-charged after spending a week in the country. Betty Jo is kind and thoughtful, paying close attention to every last detail to ensure the comfort of her guests. We cannot wait to return to The Little Cottage in the near future. Thank you Betty Jo!

Owner's Response: After this lovely family returned home, I received such a pleasant e-mail from them: telling me that they felt "completely rejuvenated!" and that their little girl "was beaming the whole week" that they were at the Lake. It really makes me happy to share our Little Cottage with families/couples like this one. I would be absolutely delighted to welcome them back.

AUGUST 2011

  • 5 of 5
Sam and I just returned from a week's stay at the Little Cottage on Kinderhook Lake and all I can say is that the time we spent there went by far too fast. The atmosphere on the lake is very relaxed and was just what the doctor ordered - not like Lake George that tends to be something of a circus in the summertime. The cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. If you're coming from the NYC area, the driving is easy and only takes about 2 1/2 hours - Taconic Parkway is probably the best route. I really recommend the Little Cottage to anyone who might be interested.

THE PERFECT ESCAPE!

  • 5 of 5
If you’re looking for an escape from the ‘rat race’…a place where you can have your windows open at night and not hear a thing…with stores/restaurants nearby for just about any needs….and close enough for day trips to Tanglewood, Saratoga Springs, Museums, or perhaps estates of Hudson River painters…then this is the place for you. As others have said it is impeccably clean, with all the conveniences you need….and a lovely deck overlooking Kinderhook Lake. Betty Jo is the perfect host who’s main concern was making sure we would have a wonderful time starting from our initial inquiry, answering any and all questions, right through to following up afterwards. Our vacation didn’t meet our expectations, it exceeded them!! Thank you Betty Jo and your ‘Little Cottage’!

Notes:
The fireplace is a gas one, and turns on with the flip of a switch in the fall and winter months. The ambiance it provides is charming. If you are traveling with the children, it is probably the place where the two of you would enjoy some relaxing quiet time, after the youngsters have gone to bed! (There is a built-in night light in the fireplace, so that even in the warmer months-when lighting the fireplace is not feasible- a cozy and restful atmosphere can be created.)
