This one-of-a-kind historic property sits on a beautiful one-acre parcel on upper Terrace Avenue, a quick walk to Bolinas Beach with great surfing (The Patch and The Lefts) and swimming and the quaint coastal village of Bolinas, where you can visit the local art museum and galleries, enjoy barbecued oysters and great local fare at the Coast Cafe, shop for local fresh produce at several farm stands, or beach-comb at some of the best beaches in the area. Beginning in October migrating Monarch Butterflies populate the Eucalyptus grove on the edge of the property.
Surrounded by gardens and meadows and ringed with Cypress Trees, the award-winning farmhouse, while recalling another era, has been extensively restored and updated with many custom-designed features: a large, bright country kitchen with sleeping loft above and dining room with wood stove; a living room that opens to a wide covered front porch and gardens beyond; and a library with French doors that open to a lawn with a brick barbecue and surrounding gardens. The three bedrooms are all on the second floor and include many built-in amenities including a second sleeping loft, dormer windows, a skylight, built-in desks and views of the surrounding gardens. The bathroom includes a claw-foot tub with shower and a separate toilet room with its own basin. The washer and dryer are in a former creamery building a few steps from the kitchen that has been updated to also include a writing studio with desk.
The property combines an incomparable location with deep roots in the area's history. Originally part of the Briones Land Grant and the home of Jose Briones family in the 1860s, the property was part of one of the first dairy ranches in Bolinas. Since then, the property has been owned by the first founders of Bolinas and many distinguished and talented artists and writers.

Just wanted to thank you again for your kindness and generosity with this Bolinas rental. We had such a great time and I was dreaming of my time there last week and wishing we could have stayed. Hopefully we'll be back soon.
My family wanted to do something completely different for Christmas this year and our son, who lives in L.A., needed to get away from all that! My husband is not a fan of snow, so when we saw this property listed we knew this would be the perfect place for us. And, indeed, it was! There is nothing to do in this gorgeous environment, but relax and drink in the beauty, the simplicity, the charm of a lovingly restored, preserved farmhouse with a history! The welcoming environment was heartwarming. Everything we needed was provided -- even a sweet miniature Christmas tree, complete with lights! (Thank you, Susan.) We felt at home, inspired, healed, renewed. The beach is right across the street and a short walk up the hill gives an amazing view of the water. Our dogs loved exploring the property and snuggling in front of the incredibly efficient wood-burning stoves. We could not have dreamed of a more perfect place to spend a completely restful holiday, just the three of us (actually five including our doggies) with no demands, no stresses, only beauty and the love that fills this home.
We just returned from a wonderful three night stay at this charming, beautifully restored farmhouse. It exceeded our expectations in every respect. My husband and I were traveling with our 15 month old daughter and dog and both loved their vacation as well. The yard is really wonderful with a big swing and hammock. Great for exploring and running around. The house has everything you could need. Susan, the owner, was easy to work with. Also we had a chance to meet her and she was so kind and welcoming and truly loves her property. I highly recommend this home. We look forward to returning soon.
We spent a wonderful week at the farmhouse with our three young children. The spaces were thoughtfully decorated and the design of the house was lovely. The setting, tucked between two hills, was serene. We could walk into town or explore countless beautiful places by car. The kitchen was well stocked and there was even a pack-n-play for our toddler. It was hard to leave and will be an easy decision to return.
We stayed at the farmhouse for 3 nights at the beginning of May. We loved it. Our kids (8,5 and 3) had a blast and haven't stopped talking about the kids-only loft, the best hammock in the world and the "secret passageway" (which isn't really that but why ruin the adventure?). The house is 10 minutes walk from the beach which is refreshingly low-key. The town of Bolinas is as unique as I can remember - we loved it. Point Reyes is close...we saw grey whales which was an unexpected highlight. Susan stopped by and was super nice and helpful. So net net, the three nights at the farmhouse were simply terrific and we will likely go back for more.
One of the best times in our lives. Magical place. Got on a first name basis with a big buck and all the quail. If I ever slow down enough to write the Great American Novel, it is a place like the farmhouse I would hope to do it in. My entire family admires the vision and dedication to preserve such a treasure. Truly wonderful. Location was far enough away to get away and not too far away to forget this great part of the U.S. offers a lot of fun. Awesome.
This property was absolutely fabulous. Full of character and warmth we were charmed by everything from the gardens to the warm cozy kitchen and the comfy beds. Great for a weekend getaway or a longer retreat. Loved, loved, loved it!
