|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Sweet 1-bedroom 'in-law' cottage, one block from wonderful Solano Avenue with its many restaurants, fantastic shopping, bookstores and movie theaters and easy access to San Francisco, the wine country, freeways and BART.
The cottage has vaulted ceilings throughout, tile floors in the living room and carpet in the bedroom. Kitchen with gas range, refrigerator, toaster, microwave & coffee maker. Cable TV w/ flat screen tv, clock radio/ Cd & MP3 player, DVD player and wireless internet. Telephone for local calls only, credit or calling card required for long distance calls. There are two ventilating skylights in the bedroom, so though the cottage is small it has a light and airy feeling.
There is a Queen size European sleep works bed in bedroom. The cottage includes a washer and dryer, skylights. Absolutely no pets and no smoking permitted. A weekly linen exchange of sheets and towels is provided.
I do my utmost to keep the calendar up to date.
We appreciated spending this week at "Rose Cottage".
It is charming and very convenient and private. When we plan another trip to visit our family we will be back in touch with you in hopes of returning here.
My husband and I stayed at Sarah's cottage for 2 months during our Berkeley home remodel. The location was ideal, keeping us close to home to check on the progress of the remodel and in a neighborhood we know and love. The cottage is walking distance to the Solano Ave and Monterey Market shops and restaurants while the street itself is quiet and has plenty of parking. The space is comfortable and cozy and we even managed when our college-aged son showed up for a couple nights. The outdoor patio functions as another "room" and is a pleasant spot to relax.
As a host, Sarah is conscientious, responsive and friendly without being intrusive. She was flexible when we needed to request a change to our start and end dates and she contacted us when she found we had left an item behind and arranged to get it back to us.
Rose Cottage and Sarah were perfect for our stay in Berkeley - 2 blocks from a street of small shops, an easy 20 minute walk to the BART, as well as other neighborhoods. Cottage had everything to feel at home - clean, an especially comfortable bed, good shower, functional kitchenette. Sarah was available if needed. We would definitely come back and recommend this place.
I stayed at the Rose Cottage for four days while doing some work at UC Berkeley and cannot say enough about this place. This is a perfect place from which one might enjoy Berkeley or the greater Bay Area. Other reviewers have mentioned Solano Avenue and the Gourmet Ghetto, but there are other smaller neighborhoods like Northbrae nearby. I walked to Rivoli's for dinner one night and highly recommend it as well as the other offerings on Solano avenue.
The cottage has a fully-equipped kitchen, excellent bed, and all of the other amenities one might need. There's a beautiful garden just outside the door with a very nice patio area for one's enjoyment. The neighborhood is very safe and there's plentiful parking. It's incredibly quiet in the evenings and the owner provided everything that I needed. Honestly, I can't imagine why one would choose to pay twice the rental fee for a sterile hotel room if Rose Cottage was available. Excellent spot!
I enjoyed 5 comfortable weeks (September 1 to October 7, 2011)
at Rose Cottage while doing research at Berkeley's Math Sciences
Research Institute (MSRI).
The place is very clean and quiet, the furniture is comfortable and
everything was in proper working order.
I had more space than needed (there is enough space for two people) and enjoyed the garden around the cottage. I needed about 15 minutes walk to reach Andronicos (good quality grocery store) on Solano avenue, 20 minutes walk to reach North Berkeley Bart (tube to San Fransisco).
I needed 30 minutes to reach MSRI (Math. institute on the top of the hills)
with my (electric!) bike (choose Shasta Ave. and not Marin!). With a car
this is a 20 minutes ride. Street parking in front of the cottage is easy and plentiful.
Sarah very kindly gave me accurate and useful information on the Bay Area and there were lots of maps and guidebooks in the cottage for my use. She is a thoughtful person and was always ready to help.
We were looking for a place close to family and this absolutely fit the bill. The landlady is very gracious and the cottage is cozy, well kept, and very private and quiet. All around good experience.
We want to thank Sarah that we could stay in her wonderful cottage. The cottage is very cozy with nice furniture and the garde is relaxing. We are especially greatful for Sarah´s kindness in helping us spontaneously to stay one more night although the cottage was already rented to the next tenants. We recommend the cottage because it is in a quiet area in Berkeley, yet it is easy to walk to all the important spots in Berkeley and to the BART station.
