Horrible Customer Experience

The description of this property was not accurate regarding the amenities of this property. There was no Internet connection, no cable TV/DVD (we only wanted to watch movies), and the advertised "Chef's Kitchen" was barely equipped with the basics. For example there were no grilling tools, no oven mitts, no coffee-maker!. We had to send someone out for coffee the first morning, and then had another guest bring a coffee-maker from home -- hardly what you would expect of a "luxury" (not to mention expensive), rental. The absolute worst part of our experience was the serious plumbing problem that occurred on the second night. We had to call for emergency plumbing on a weekend which the owner of the property ended up attempting to make us pay for. The plumbing problem occurred as a result of nothing out of the ordinary. We were a group of women celebrating a 50th birthday. We only wanted a beautiful setting where we could relax, celebrate our friendship, and have a simple dinner party. Yes, the home is lovely and the location is stunning, but the plumbing incident was a nightmare - i have never experienced anything like that in my life - anywhere. We couldn't believe how the owner handled it. We felt that we should have received money back! And when we requested compensation, not only did he not respond - he had someone email us the plumbing bill. I would never rent from this owner again. I would not recommend this property to anyone. I rate the experience as Fair because every place I have ever rented was a better experience than renting from this owner. I don't care how beautiful your property is - you should handle your business better! I will say that the real-estate person who was caught in the middle, was very pleasant.
Owner's Response: There are two sides to every story. Except for a coffee maker (which we now have) they are wrong: kitchen has all new Viking and Sub-Zero major appliances, new grill, mitts and grilling tools if they had looked. If the “absolute worst part of the experience was the plumbing problem” they caused it by flushing female products down the toilets. They apparently delayed getting a plumber when needed but called him in the middle of the night on a Sat. at double time racking up a bill in excess of $600 they refuse to pay.
We would never rent this small but beautiful ocean front cottage to 8 woman for 4 days whose only goal appeared to be nonstop partying again. We have had no difficulties with subsequent renters. All have had a wonderful experience on the coast of Maine at this at this “stunning location.”
