This charming three bedroom, two bath home and property is located on Littlejohn Lake. A private fishing lake with no public boat access, located in the town of Allegan in southwest Michigan. Allegan is an old fashioned town with a downtown river boardwalk adjacent to cozy restaurants. Allegan also hosts antique fairs as well as the Allegan County Fair. The home can easily accommodate eight people for your next family vacation. Included is a fishing boat and a paddle boat. Pontoon boat is not included, but you can arrange for a pontoon boat ride in increments of 30 minutes for an additional fee. On the lake lot, you will find a large patio with an outdoor firepit for evening campfires, and a swing for a relaxing view of the lake. The property includes a lake lot and a large wooded lot, on which the home is located. Wooded lot is directly across from the lake lot . Amenities include: wireless Internet, cable TV, washer and dryer, air-conditioning, towels and linens, and a charcoal grill

Littlejohn Lake is one of many lakes in the area and is about 5 miles from downtown Allegan. Lake Michigan is only 20 minutes west and the popular tourist areas of Saugatuck and South Haven are each only a short 30 minute drive. Grand Rapids airport to the north or Kalamazoo airport to the south are both about 45 minutes away. Chicago and Detroit are both about a three hour drive. Allegan has antique shopping and a nice river walk. There are wineries in Paw Paw, approximately a twenty-minute drive, and golf courses nearby.

Notes: For your outdoor pleasure, the home, located on a wooded lot, has a large deck complete with rocking chairs and outdoor furniture to sit back, relax, read or enjoy the view . Watch for frequent visits from deer, wild turkeys, along with other variety of birds and wildlife. The lake lot, located directly across, has a large landscaped concrete patio with an outdoor swing, patio furniture and a firepit. The lakefront lot has a sandy beach and dock. A fishing boat with oars and motor and a paddle boat are included for your use. The pontoon boat is not included, but pontoon boat rides can be arranged in increments of 30 minutes for an additional fee. Inside the home, you will find a kitchen equipped with stove/oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, washer & dryer, coffee maker, cooking utensils, dishes, glasses and flatware. A Peaceful Retreat

My husband, mom, and I rented this home for 2 days on the 16th and 17th of August. I have to say it was the most peaceful, and enjoyable place that we have stayed in for a long time. The house was well maintained, and immaculate. The owner sat out a gift basket filled with beach supplies and other goodies. It was a wonderful added touch. The small beach and dock were just down the hill from the house, and there was a great view of the lake from the from house's front deck. The home was located near enough to the towns of South Haven and Paw Paw that we could visit the shops we like there during the day. It was nice to come back to the quaint little home, and peace and quiet of the lake. If you're looking for a quiet place to get away to fish and relax this is the place. Thank you so much for an enjoyable weekend!

A must read before renting from this owner!

When we arrived at the "cottage" (trailer) it was not even located on the lake like the pictures lead you to believe. The “cottage” is located on a small but, steep grass/muddy hill with no driveway. We had to park our cars in some gravel at the bottom. The water used to take showers and clean dishes smells horrible, no one felt clean after taking a shower. Not to mention we had to use bottled water to brush our teeth the smell was just unbearable. The only plus I can think of is the how neat and tidy the “cottage” was but, please don’t confuse that with the "cottage" being clean and spotless. Also, the owner put together a little gift basket full of flip-flops which was a kind gesture.
The lake water is a dirty brown color and very crowded with lake scum and lily pads especially around the docks. Also, the dock that goes with the “cottage” is a very old one. The wood is starting to splinter (one of the children got a splinter in his foot) and the nails used to build the dock are sticking up and even cut the bottom of my family members foot which is now infected.
The owner of the “cottage” decided to keep our deposit because the cleaning products that were provided seem to have “bleached” the cabinet doors. The owner also claims we left stains on all of the couch cushions, that some sticky substance was found on a modem and ruined a telephone (please keep in mind this is 2009 and we all have our own cell phones), and the couch bed frame was bent even though we brought a blow up mattress and never used the couch bed.
Please let it be known we never did meet the actual owner, we did however, meet her father who in turn relayed all of the “damages”.
We are a great family who wanted to start a tradition of going on a weekend vacation once a year. This experience has really made us think twice. We have respect and courtesy for anyone and everything but, this owner acted as if we partied all weekend and ruined her “cottage”. I don’t recommend renting this property or any property from this owner. I would advise anyone who does want to rent from this owner to request a walk through at the end of the stay to in sure you do not get cheated out of your deposit.

FYI: the description of the rental says it sleeps 8-10 but, please be aware this owner will charge extra per person when the groups become bigger than 8. The owner also counts children as part of the group.
Owner's Response: I am sorry this renter felt compelled to give me a negative review. I communicate with all potential renters by both email and by phone. The description of the home states it is located on a large wooded lot and that there is a lake lot. The pictures state "lake lot" & "home on wooded lot" and show they are separate. One picture clearly states in the description a "view from the deck" displaying the lake lot is not the same lot as which the home is located. I inform guests of the parking instructions and area. The home has a private well, not city supplied water. As a courtesy, I supply all renters a free 24 case of bottled water. The home is kept clean and spotless. It is for this reason I do not take back to back rentals, so I have time to properly clean and inspect the home before the next renters occupy the property. I ask the renters to notify me, my housekeeper or property manager if they do not find the home clean or incur any problems with the property. My property manager checked with this renter daily, there were no complaints. This renter did not notify us of any problems until after she departed. She emailed me and at that point she still complimented the cleanliness of the home and what a wonderful time they had and as an FYI, she mentioned the nail on the deck. I replied asking for a location so we could remedy the situation right away.
This renter did not have a problem with the home until she was informed her security deposit was not going to be refunded. The refund was withheld per the contract for her violation of contract.She had more people occupying the home than she indicated. In my contract it is clearly stated there is a maximum occupancy of 8 and there is an additional charge per person per night. She indicated 10 guests. In fact, there were 12. Per the contract she owed additional charges for the additional people. I was only able to recover the deposit amount. Not only did I take a loss in actual rental fees for the home, the damage this renter and her family caused was well over the deposit. During her occupancy:the sofa sleeper is now inoperable as a sleeper, metal bars were bent; stained and soiled chair pads had to be replaced; a digit phone modem had to be replaced due to a liquid spilled on it, this had nothing to do with the use of a cell phone or not, but rather an unreported spill that ruined a modem; and permanently stained damaged cabinet doors need replacing.
This is the only time I withheld a refund of a deposit.
