Peaceful Cottage is nestled inside the cool and shady tropical rain forest of beautiful St John. Just a few minutes walk or drive away from great trail hikes down to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Peaceful Cottage offers quick and easy access to National Park trails, beaches, shopping, and bars. Situated under the tropical forest canopy, surrounded by big old trees with creepers winding up the trunks, the temperature is always pleasantly just right, always a few degrees cooler than at the beach. A little sun trickles through the treetops but it's never too hot, never too cool. When you're ready for more sun, the beaches are not far away! The air is fresh and pure -- truly a most peaceful environment.
The location is a very private and fenced-in cul-de-sac on Gift Hill, not far from Fork in the Road.
The cottage is very competitively priced for St John and offers excellent value for your dollar. It is geared toward people who are looking to be surrounded by the stunning natural scenery, the sounds of crickets and frogs and geckos, and scents of the rain forest. After a day spent exploring the island's treasures (the petroglyphs, the mill ruins, hiking trails, reefs and beaches) and experiencing myriad sun-drenched and water-quenched activities you'll come back to a quiet, cool, and restful home-away-from-home.
A cot is available for a third person or child.
Beach towels and mats are available for your use.
Outdoor smoking is OK. Your pet is welcome, though larger dogs might be intimidated by one very friendly Jack Russell terrier ....

'Unattached' Caribbean cottages the perfect for 1 couple, two couples or young family.
We stayed at the Peaceful Cottages in the end of October and found it to be a wonderful experience. Our cottage was the smaller one and it was just right for the two of us. It was comfortable and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We took advantage of the outside grill and cooked most of our own meals. It was very relaxing to sit on the porch surrounded by rain forest plants and wild life. I particularly enjoyed the night sounds of the chorus of frogs that lull you to sleep at night. We also enjoyed playing with Jackie, the sweet Jack Russell terrier. We used the four-wheel drive jeep and it was perfect for the roads there. It was no problem adjusting to driving on the left side. Trevor was able to give a lot of good advice about places to go and things to do. It was our first time being in Saint John and we would like to go back and stay there again. We highly recommend it.
We stayed 12 days in paradise and this cottage was perfect for us! About eight minutes from town, this is nestled in foliage on the hillside. Every night you get a lullaby from the tree frogs and then wake each morning with the birds. It is airy and spacious, all the open windows helped us acclimate to the weather within two days.(very humid) The 4WD car rental available was perfect, as you can explore on your own. There is so much beauty and life on St. John, and this cottage really makes you feel apart of it. You can sit on the wrap around porch and watch the geckos with your morning tea. Or snorkel with the rays and turtles at Maho. Or have breakfast in Coral bay with goats and donkeys. Always coming home to the quiet. The best part for me was the solitude. This isn't a fancy resort with tons of people, its your own haven in the forest!
I would recommend either cottage to anyone who likes their own space and connecting with nature. It is clean and well maintained and Trevor is an amazing host, there for all questions and travel activities! Parasailing was beautiful! And bring your throwing arm; the cottages' other host has four legs, loves to play fetch, and is incredibly adorable!
Remember to bring BUG SPRAY. I don't like deet, but it is better than mosquito bites. For authentic Caribbean food try De' Coal Pot. Bring an underwater camera or case and snorkel with the turtles at Maho! Park at Annaberg and walk the trail, not just at those ruins but by Leinster bay. Along the water and up the hill leads you to heaven! Also, go to Dennis Bay beach. It is off of the Peace Hill trail to the right, it was perfect!!!!!!!
Best value on the island! We read the reviews and spoke to Trevor before renting, and knew what to expect. We traveled with another couple and rented both cottages. It was a wonderful week that just went by too fast! We'd love to stay there again!
We stayed in the smaller (PC1) cottage but there is plenty of room for 2, even for the scuba gear to hang/dry. Just enough off the main drag to get away from the ever busier Cruz Bay. Quiet, comfortable, clean. Stayed 11 days in late Jan, 2014 and loved it. No problems with wifi, cable, etc. Trevor is a really great guy and knows the island so his guidance on sightseeing/tours helped a lot. The car is a real deal if you want to explore the island and all the great beaches. All in all, this was a memorable trip and the cottage was the perfect choice at a great price. Yea, Jackie (the Jack Russell) is a treat but I'm a dog lover. This was our 4th trip to St John and we'll stay here next time if Trevor hasn't sailed back to South Africa yet.
Our Peaceful Cottage. Sometimes it's hard to let others know about a great experience as then we have to share our little slice of heaven! But I will, only if you make sure we get our cottage when we want it! This place can not get any better. Trevor is an incredible host. From the initial email and phone call to book our escape to his greeting us at the ferry terminal, we had found a new friend.
The cottages are so quaint and cute. We stayed in the smaller of the two, PC2. Remember you are in a Tropical Rain Forest. It will be damp from nightly rains, you will have fresh air thru the screened windows, you will be lulled to sleep by night sounds that are truly magical. NOTE: You are NOT at a 5 star resort. If you want to be a snobby tourist, go rent a room at Caneel or The Westin and save the dates for us that like to "be with where you are"! If you want to live like an Islander, Peaceful Cottage is for you. Yes you will have geckos, lizards, crabs, frogs, birds and many bugs visiting you (don't worry, mostly out on the porch). These are all so fun to watch and learn about nature from. You will have a mascot named Jackie to help you from missing your own dogs. You will have Trevor, your host and built-in Island expert. And you will also get to drive a really fun Jeep and look more like a local instead of a fair skinned "Continental".
We were at "our cottage" for 9 nights starting October 27, 2013. We had every type of weather from extreme heat, winds to very rainy. No worries, ceiling fans and oscillating fans kept us comfortable when inside. We cooked amazing meals on our hot plate and with the microwave. Grill is on the porch but we did not use it. Grocery stores are an easy drive. Trevor allowed us to wash clothes the night before we left so we came home with all clean clothes in our backpacks.
We hiked every trail, hit every beach and relaxed! We are a married couple, 55 & 60. Very outdoorsy and World Travelers & backpackers. This place was perfect!
What a wonderful property with an amazing owner and trusty sidekick! Peaceful Cottage is such a hidden gem, I didn't want to leave. Having lived in the VI previously, I found the cottage to be much like normal island life. If you are one who enjoys the resort lifestyle, this is not for you; however, I highly suggest that you try it just to have that understanding and feeling of what living in "paradise" is like. You will find it gives you internal peace and an appreciation of your surroundings.
Have no worries, there is no sugar coating in any of the details of the property. Everything included in the description of the property is true. I rented the smaller of the 2 with the kitchenette. It was perfect, as there was a gas grill outside. There is a mini-fridge in the unit, but don't let that deter you. There is a nice size cooler that worked perfectly for keeping beverages in during the week.
Trevor, the owner, is a wonderful individual who will answer questions if asked, yet does not invade your space. Jackie, his cute trusty sidekick, may come knock on your door to wish you a good morning and sucker you for a belly rub. Her visits were always welcomed and pleasant.
Trevor did allow the rental of a vehicle which was a plus. If you rent a car or rent Trevors, keep in mind to go slow down the paved road to the cottage and to swing wide prior to turning down his path. It is an easy route to travel, you just have to know how to travel up and down a steep hill (which is how it is all over the island). He was kind enough to meet down in Cruz Bay upon arrival and travel to the cottage. The location is only a few minutes from the grocery store(s) and places to eat.
Peaceful Cottage is perfect whether your desire is to travel to the well-known tourist-like beaches or to venture for a several mile hike down the mountain to an "off the path" beach.
I plan on returning to Peaceful Cottage on my next trip "home".
Thank you for a pleasurable experience, Trevor.
