Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5
We've stayed several times at Journey's End, and it's always a treat. This time we spent 4 nights, and it was possibly the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. The cabin is charming, well maintained, and in an absolutely perfect location. Best sunsets anyplace on the coast! Great bird watching from the porch, which is also perfect for eating meals. We purchased seafood straight off the boat from Endurance Seafood in Oriental, and prepared it in the roomy kitchen. Terry is a pleasure to deal with, and she's done a great job decorating and maintaining this jewel on the river!

Owner's Response: Endurance Seafood in Oriental is a nice resource for the purchasing fresh seafood in addition to your catch off the dock at Journey's End. Keith and his sons bring in their catch and sell it right off their boat. Friends and I purchased frozen mussels last spring and Keith gave us a great recipe for this delicacy. Don't forget the french bread!

Laid-back Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I along with another couple spent a week at Journey’s End in late September, 2014, and had a wonderful week. We loved the location, the rustic décor and eating meals on the porch with views of the river. Terry has done an excellent job of keeping the integrity of the cottage, is fantastic to work with and she looks after your every need. Journey’s End is so much nicer and homier than modern condos and nothing could be better than sitting on the pier with a good book, watching dolphins and beautiful sunsets. We hated to leave and have already decided to stay there next year.

Owner's Response: Your review is a great testimony to the simple pleasures of Journey's End and the dock on the Neuse River. Fall is the optimal time for bright orange luminous sunsets. Thank you for sharing your experience and yes, please come back for another vacation at Minnesott Beach, NC.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at this wonderful cottage for only two nights, wish we could have stayed longer. My three boys loved catching countless blue crap from the dock and the rocks, fishing, jumping off the dock and swimming with the passing dolphins. What an amazing, quiet and relaxing place. Hope to return sometime in the future. Owner was wonderful to work with.

Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5
This is the third year that my extended family has chosen to vacation at Journey's End. Walking into the house immediately takes one back to the lazy, stress-free, days of their childhood. Journey's End has been in Terry's family for generations and she has managed to re-create the old-fashioned, beachy feel of a coastal summer retreat. She even has her grandparents vintage fiesta dinnerware prominently displayed in the kitchen. Don't be mislead in to thinking that she has sacrificed comfort: the kitchen is fully stocked, the linens are wonderfully soft and the internet is awesome. After you use the outside shower once, you will wonder why Terry went to the trouble to install a shower inside. (It's a great, out of the way, place to store your suitcases!) Sit on the sleeping porch and watch the marine traffic on the Neuse. We saw dolphins just about day. The squirrels in the back yard provided us with hours of entertainment. And the concrete dock offered a wonderful place to fish any time of the day or night. The air traffic into and out of the Cherry Point Air Station (just across the river) proved to be fascinating to most of us. The local people are welcoming and helpful. Who knows? One of them might share the location of the "secret" beach where seaglass can be found. As if there isn't enough to do at Journey's End, it takes about an hour to get to Beaufort where you can learn about pirates, see ponies, go shelling and swimming and have a wonderful meal. Don't forget to visit the smallest Wal-Mart in the world in Oriental. (Note: don't confuse this Wal-Mart with the regular one in Grantsboro.) And go have a Pepsi at it's birthplace in New Bern. When you are tired of going and doing, come home to Journey's End, grab a book and take your turn in the hammock. Journey's End is the quintessential vacation destination. Who could ask for anything more?

Owner's Response: Actually the land that Journey's End is positioned on belonged to my Great Grandfather. Journey's End Cottage itself belonged to a tobacco warehouse magnet from Kinston, NC. The owner and his wife did not have children but they loved to entertain. Very fitting since Journey's End has entertained many travelers and friends over the last 20 years. This historic Cottage along with the Minnesott Beach Pavilion were the first buildings in the area to have electricity dating back to the early 1920's.
For more shopping in Pamilico County, the area is rich with small businesses like art galleries, gift shops, antique shops as well as fishing guide/bait and marine shops.

Journey's End is the dream place to be!

Journey's End is the dream place to be!

What a wonderful week we had! We spend most of time outdoors (fishing off the dock, kayaking, collecting seashells and finding lots of sharks teeth right on minnesott beach!) everything was delightful on the river, every day I looked forward to reading and having coffee on the dock and what I would see happening in the river. We enjoyed riding bikes through little "mayberry" everybody here waves and smiles at you. I had to collect the "giant" NC pinecones to bring back home to make Christmas decorations with. Each day we had glorious weather (Even survived Hurricane Arthur which happened at night, so that didnt take away from our enjoyment of Minnesott Beach and there was no damage! The next day was as if Arthur didnt happen. I was on alert all night "protecting" our family since all my family slept through it! :) The power went out but was so glad it came back on right when we woke up! Terry was so wonderful checking on us making sure all was ok. We loved using the crabpots and for bait we used stinky chicken necks and caught 33 blue crabs! yum! The cottage was so charming and delightful, loved having our breakfast and dinner out on the sleeping porch. We enjoyed the "free" firework show from the dock on 4th of July from the neighbors and you could see more of them all over the river from afar. The dolphins did not disappoint us, they swam by almost daily and even a school of manta's or sting rays passed by once. Those jumping fish (don't know what they are called) were so fun to watch from the dock as they jumped all around us like popcorn out of the water. We loved the joy of family togetherness in this peaceful hidden treasure. It was hard to leave, I didn't want to go home, so we decided to stay an extra night and went to the Croaker Festival in Oriental. That was fun! They know how to have an old fashioned candy throwing parade! Terry is such a pleasant owner of Journey's End and shows great hospitality with the love and care she has put into making Journey's End a place to enjoy and Relax, away from all the busyness and cares of the world. I miss it already! Absolutely we will return!

Owner's Response: Karen and Troy....it was fun following your adventures on the Neuse River. Sharks tooth hunting and shelling being one of my favorite things to do and can entertain for hours. I believe your crabbing took the prize for the most crabs caught in the crab pots and with chicken necks this summer. Go team!!! Thanks for honoring the cottage during your stay and for your fine report on the happenings during the week of your vacation. I look forward to your return to Journey's End and the Neuse River.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
Walking into Journey's End was like walking into home. The cottage is so well-equipped; everything you need (and never knew you would need) is already there. The décor is perfect for a relaxing stay. The whole place was clean and immaculate (I'm one of those people who strips the sheets and checks the mattresses at hotels). The pictures do not do this wonderful place justice! The yards, sleeping porch, and dock was where we spent 99% of our time. Except when we were cooking up the crabs we caught! A few days were spent at Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Fort Macon; which are all a short ferry ride and drive away. My parents (in their 60s), my husband and myself (in our 30s), and our 13 year old son all have proclaimed that this was the vacation of a lifetime!!! Terry was always a delight to talk to and answered all my questions and gave us recommendations for dining and attractions. She even called at the end of the week to see if we enjoyed our stay. The first thing I said was "we aren't waiting a whole year to come back"! We loved Journey's End!!!

Owner's Response: Making the most of your stay by taking trips to Atlantic Beach, Morehead, New Bern and Fort Macon is a great idea. There are a lot of areas to explore for day outings from Minnesott Beach. It's nice to know that everything you need is at your finger tips while vacationing at Journey's End Cottage. Spending a day and an evening on the dock is as far as one needs to go when enjoying the Neuse River and it's bounty. I hope that retreating to Journey's End will become your family tradition. Thank you Ruth Ann and family.
