So relaxing you will melt...

  • 5 of 5

From the minute I walked into the cottage I felt like I was in the cabin from the movie “On Golden Pond”…for Terry has so lovingly tended that little piece of history. In a day fond of ruining what was so beautifully crafted, she has retained the flavor of a bygone era combined with the lovely touches of today that ensures that

guests feel and live the history while skipping the trip to the outhouse :). I was so relaxed I think I melted…From the wood walls and floor that just oozed history and warmth and charm to the chenille coverings, well-chosen (of course!) and well-placed artwork to the cozy beds, and the cool bikes on the porch and the beckoning dock and landing, we just had a grand time. Thanks for arranging such a wonderful place to take some time to recharge. A return is imminent!

Joy

My stay at Journey's End was so lovely. This place has a heart and soul! The moment I stepped in the door, I was cocooned in peace and completely at ease. I spent most of my time curled up in the large overstuffed chair on the (climate controlled) back porch facing the river. This cottage is a once in a life time find...I plan to visit again and again to recharge and reconnect with myself and my loved ones. Oh, and the Journey's End owner was completely gracious and accommodating which just added to the beauty of my experience.

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed several times at Journey's End, and it's always a treat. This time we spent 4 nights, and it was possibly the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. The cabin is charming, well maintained, and in an absolutely perfect location. Best sunsets anyplace on the coast! Great bird watching from the porch, which is also perfect for eating meals. We purchased seafood straight off the boat from Endurance Seafood in Oriental, and prepared it in the roomy kitchen. Terry is a pleasure to deal with, and she's done a great job decorating and maintaining this jewel on the river!

Owner's Response: Endurance Seafood in Oriental is a nice resource for the purchasing fresh seafood in addition to your catch off the dock at Journey's End. Keith and his sons bring in their catch and sell it right off their boat. Friends and I purchased frozen mussels last spring and Keith gave us a great recipe for this delicacy. Don't forget the french bread!

Laid-back Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with another couple spent a week at Journey’s End in late September, 2014, and had a wonderful week. We loved the location, the rustic décor and eating meals on the porch with views of the river. Terry has done an excellent job of keeping the integrity of the cottage, is fantastic to work with and she looks after your every need. Journey’s End is so much nicer and homier than modern condos and nothing could be better than sitting on the pier with a good book, watching dolphins and beautiful sunsets. We hated to leave and have already decided to stay there next year.

Owner's Response: Your review is a great testimony to the simple pleasures of Journey's End and the dock on the Neuse River. Fall is the optimal time for bright orange luminous sunsets. Thank you for sharing your experience and yes, please come back for another vacation at Minnesott Beach, NC.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this wonderful cottage for only two nights, wish we could have stayed longer. My three boys loved catching countless blue crap from the dock and the rocks, fishing, jumping off the dock and swimming with the passing dolphins. What an amazing, quiet and relaxing place. Hope to return sometime in the future. Owner was wonderful to work with.

Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year that my extended family has chosen to vacation at Journey's End. Walking into the house immediately takes one back to the lazy, stress-free, days of their childhood. Journey's End has been in Terry's family for generations and she has managed to re-create the old-fashioned, beachy feel of a coastal summer retreat. She even has her grandparents vintage fiesta dinnerware prominently displayed in the kitchen. Don't be mislead in to thinking that she has sacrificed comfort: the kitchen is fully stocked, the linens are wonderfully soft and the internet is awesome. After you use the outside shower once, you will wonder why Terry went to the trouble to install a shower inside. (It's a great, out of the way, place to store your suitcases!) Sit on the sleeping porch and watch the marine traffic on the Neuse. We saw dolphins just about day. The squirrels in the back yard provided us with hours of entertainment. And the concrete dock offered a wonderful place to fish any time of the day or night. The air traffic into and out of the Cherry Point Air Station (just across the river) proved to be fascinating to most of us. The local people are welcoming and helpful. Who knows? One of them might share the location of the "secret" beach where seaglass can be found. As if there isn't enough to do at Journey's End, it takes about an hour to get to Beaufort where you can learn about pirates, see ponies, go shelling and swimming and have a wonderful meal. Don't forget to visit the smallest Wal-Mart in the world in Oriental. (Note: don't confuse this Wal-Mart with the regular one in Grantsboro.) And go have a Pepsi at it's birthplace in New Bern. When you are tired of going and doing, come home to Journey's End, grab a book and take your turn in the hammock. Journey's End is the quintessential vacation destination. Who could ask for anything more?

Owner's Response: Actually the land that Journey's End is positioned on belonged to my Great Grandfather. Journey's End Cottage itself belonged to a tobacco warehouse magnet from Kinston, NC. The owner and his wife did not have children but they loved to entertain. Very fitting since Journey's End has entertained many travelers and friends over the last 20 years. This historic Cottage along with the Minnesott Beach Pavilion were the first buildings in the area to have electricity dating back to the early 1920's. For more shopping in Pamilico County, the area is rich with small businesses like art galleries, gift shops, antique shops as well as fishing guide/bait and marine shops.

With a short ferry ride and drive Beaufort is approx. 45 min. away offering antiques, waterfront shopping, dining and a great waterfront community. Pine Knoll Shores State Aquarium, Fort Macon and the Atlantic Ocean Park are just beyond Beaufort. New Bern is a 30 min. drive offering similar activities and fine dining and antiquing.
