'Sound of the Whale' is a new 2008 cedar home in quiet and peaceful Milolii - where the sun meets the sea. Enjoy the sweeping 180 degree view of the ocean, where whales migrate November through May. Hear the song of the humpback whales echo through the Milolii valley at night. Feed canaries, cardinals, doves, partridges, etc. from the lanais.
The home is decorated Hawaiiana throughout, featuring tropical wallpapers, teak and bamboo, granite and tile, quality appliances, and huge covered lanais for outdoor living. This 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home will comfortably accommodate 8 people with handicap accessibility on the lower floor. Relax at the recently added swimming pool, private from the street, with sweeping ocean views.
Enjoy sunsets, a secluded black sand beach, spectacular snorkeling, whale watching, and total relaxation in peaceful Milolii. Come stay at 'The Sound of the Whale.'
Building our home in Milolii, Hawaii has been a dream come true. Hawaii has been our favorite vacation getaway for years, and we decided that we would like to spend more time in the place we love. Being from the country in our home state of Washington, made the rural setting of Milolii a perfect fit for us. We enjoyed the research, the planning and the hard work of completing our home. Now it is the relaxing 'home away from home' that we had hoped for. We wish our guests that same feeling of contentment that makes us come back again and again.

We loved our stay at the Sound of the Whale home. It was absolutely perfect for our party of two families (each had their own space - yet we had a common gathering place for meals and hanging out). The lanai is amazing... an entire room of it's own. FABULOUS views. The home was beautifully done - well stocked with everything we needed (both kitchen-wise and outdoor play-wise). The pool was a little smaller than I expected, but worked out perfectly... we were in it every day (rain or shine). Never having been to the Big Island, the only thing that I didn't totally love was how far out the home was from the main Kona area. We knew ahead of time where we were going and that it was more isolated - just didn't realize that we would have liked to be a little closer (with two toddlers, the long ride into town was a bit longer than ideal). I absolutely loved working with Max and Linda ahead of time while making arrangements. They couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. Their maps and directions sent prior to our trip were very helpful. They were actually in town staying with friends near the home during our visit - which I thought might be awkward - but it wasn't at all. They respected our time and space. We heard from them once just to make sure that everything was OK, that we didn't need anything and that was it. We would absolutely return when our kids get a bit older so a longer car ride for groceries isn't a big deal. I would recommend this home to anyone - just would want them to fully realize and be OK with the location.
Thank you Max & Linda for letting us borrow your beautiful home for a week!! It is soooooooo peaceful there and loved every minute there. It had everything we needed for an "Awsome" vacation! Didn't get to use the kayaks, maybe next time. Your lot is in a perfect location (we're jealous :-) that provides that great view from the up stairs deck, and a nice private pool area in the back! That upstairs deck was the perfect place for our breakfasts, dinners and just kickin back time. We had beautiful sunsets every day that we were there! We even got to see that Blood Moon Eclipse one evening, that was really cool! (I am kinda an astronomy nut too :-) Sky viewing there was great, haven't been in an area that dark for years!!)
Your directions to the house were perfect and thank you also for the maps with all the highlighted places on it ,I think we went to all of them! :-) Milolii was just what we were hoping for. It's away from the hustle n bustle of city life and very relaxing. We live about 10 miles from the Las Vegas strip so we loved it here.
The new Saddle Road is awsome it saved us so much time on a road trip one day we did in about 8 hours! (Naalehu,Punaluu,South Point,Volcano,Hilo,Kamuela,Kohala and ended up at Hapuna Beach-Awsome day!! Only skipped the Hamakua Coast area) We did go back to Volcano on another day tho, very cool there. Your home I think is in pretty nice starting place to explore the Big Island well for us it was. Made it to Hilo in a couple of hours to visit friends and family ,and thats just cruzin all the way. We made it to Honomolino Beach also and it took us about 30 minutes from the start of the trail (we're 60 so it took us longer LOL) it's Awsome there and we had it all to ourselves for about 3 hours!!! I told Debbie I was ready to run around naked!1 LOL!! Beautiful beach and water there! The people we talked to in the Milolii Village are very nice too! You just have to start talking to them.
Well thanks again Linda & Max our vacation was great!! We're coming up again in June but saw your place was rented out already :-( Kinda was a last minute decision anyway. Take Care -n- Aloooooooooha!
Great hideaway for 10 days of whales singing Daphnis spinning and sunsets a flowing . Not close to anything but that's what we wanted. Star gazing was incredible with space station passing over head on a few nights. The house is well equipped with ample cook wear. Caution frig has alarm for door open and we spent time monkeying with smokes to figure this out. Linda and max have put a nice place together.
Thanks for the use of your wonderful house for the two weeks (wish it were more) we were on Kona. Grandparents, parents and kids all had a great time. Beautiful views and quiet, Kids really enjoyed the pool. Would like to come back sometime. Thanks again
We couldn't have asked for kinder, more considerate hosts than Linda and Max. Our housekeeper/property manager, Danielle, was wonderful, too. Sound of the Whale is a labor of love from these wonderful people, and it truly shows. The home is thoughtfully designed and lovingly maintained. We enjoyed the pool, birds and flowers. The ocean breezes were always welcome. This home has comfortable furnishings, plenty of kitchen utensils and crockery in addition to comfortable beds and quality linens. Of course, the lanaii is a wonder, and I already miss the unique lounge chair. We really felt more like visiting cousins than tourists while staying here. I wish that all visitors here have the wonderful experience we did. Thank you again, Max, Linda and Danielle, for making our stay so comfortable and for sharing your friendship with us.
This is a beautifully crafted home with an awesome view. It is off the beaten path in a very peaceful setting. The house was super clean and well equipped, even better than the listing describes. We especially enjoyed hiking to secluded Honomalino Beach for snorkeling and swimming. We definitely want to return for a longer stay!
