Why does B~11 get all those great reviews?

But first, why does TripAdvisor rate Sapphire Bay Condominiums West (which they call 'Crystal Cove Beach Resort on Sapphire Bay) only seventh of twenty-two 'hotels' 'in' St Thomas?

Got me, here are the facts:

Cielo Vista Villa is rated number one by guests, with five bubbles, but this is based on a single review.

SBCW is in a three way tie for second, with Marriott's Frenchman's Cove and Point Pleasant Resort--each with four and a half bubbles. There is something, however, that should be noted. On 2014 April 1, the management of Point Pleasant Resort changed. The new management somehow managed to purge all but one of the hundreds of poor reviews that been left when the previous management managed the resort. I'm glad that Point Pleasant has its act together, but this seems to be a unique accommodation of the part of TA.

Now to the original question

It's not because B~11 is the closest unit to the beach—although it's just a short and pleasant stroll.

It's not because it has the best view. The view is not at all bad, but it's not anything special. You can see it in one of the photos in this listing.

It's not because it is the most fully renovated. We are working on it, but we need a few more years.

It's not because the rates are the lowest—although they are close to the very lowest.

And as hard as we try to be the best hosts, there are many others that are just as good, and probably a few that are better!

So here is our secret formula.

First we try to offer the best value in the area. We know that there are more desirable units, and there are less expensive units. We strive to approach the quality of the very best units while remaining priced only slightly higher than the least expensive.

Then, we strive to describe both the condominium and our unit as accurately as we can. We do not promise what we cannot provide. If there are surprises for our guests, we want them to be good ones.

We do not try to provide a “hotel experience”. When our guests arrive at B~11, we want them to feel that they have arrived at their own vacation home.

We try to make B~11 as comfortable and convenient as we can. This includes providing almost everything that we reasonably can, so our guests need to schlepp as little as possible.

We do what we reasonably can to furnish our guests the best vacation that we are able to. Problems inevitably arise, but when they do (unless they are extremely minor) we try to get them resolved as quickly as possible.

And, finally, a few days after our guests (not including friends and family) leave B~11, we email them and ask them to leave a review.

We hope that you will join the many happy guests who have shared B~11 with us and leave another glowing review.

This condominium has been owned by our family which has been enjoying the magic of Sapphire for over fifty years. It was largely renovated and offered for rental for the first time in late 2007. The condo is located just minutes from Red Hook where you can find groceries, restaurants, shopping and access to the ferries which can whisk you away to St. John or the British Virgin Islands.

The condo is only one hundred and fifty steps from the front door to the beach. While on the beach you can see St John and the British Virgin Islands. Because the unit is on the lower level, when you arrive you park at the rear of the unit and bring your luggage and groceries into the unit by walking about thirty-five feet from your car and up just four steps, rather than lugging them around to the front of the building and up a flight of stairs

The unit retains the original floor plan, except that the original front porch has been enclosed and now expands the already large living/dining room, and a large fenestration has been cut between the kitchen and living/dining area.

The unit contains its own front-loading washer and matching dryer. For drying wet towels and such, there is a solar powered 'clothesline' just outside the rear door. There are two televisions, and 'expanded digital cable' (a total of approximately teventy channels) and Showtime are included. Local phone service and Wi-Fi internet access are included.

There is a 52 inch TV in front and and a '32 inch class' in the bedroom two DVD players (one Blu-Ray), and and two stereo systems.

The locks have been removed from all closet doors, except for one-half of one closet.. We do our best to keep 'starter supplies' of non-perishable essentials in the unit, so you won't have to begin your stay buying things like coffee filters and dish detergent.

Please note: Because we keep improving B~11 faster then we can take new photographs, most of the photographs are somewhat obsolete. The only change that may be the slightest bit controversial is that we have removed the dining table by the front window which served primarily as a workbench for Steve when we were in B~11—the round dining table accommodates five without any problems.. This enabled us to move futon-like couch from the bedroom to under the front window. There were two reasons for this. First, it will sometime allow more rational sleeping arrangements when there are five occupants. Secondly, It frees up space in the bedroom which Steve will use to construct a “storage wall unit” which will also have space for a larger television. I am sure that you will agree that all other changes that we have made are a functional and/or aesthetic improvement.

To ensure continued enjoyment by all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted.

SHORT STAYS: Condominium regulations require that rentals be for a minimum of a three nights,

LONG STAYS: Except for 'prime times' stays over ten days will be discounted on an individual basis.

Awesome vacation rental!

We are so lucky we found this condo! It was perfect for us, 3 adults. All of the beds were very comfy and only being a one bedroom did not feel cramped. The condo is very clean and comfortable. Reminds me of the beach cottage I would love to own!

The beach and ocean here are very clean and beautiful. Amber was our beach attendant and she was awesome.

Steve and Honey run a first class trustworthy procedure in renting the condo, I could not give them a higher recommendation.

We rented a car through Paradise Rental car which was very good also. You could use taxis, we like freedom of being able to go when and where we want.

Check out Caribbean Fish Spa, and Duffys they were both fun. Tap and Still awesome burgers.

If you aren't looking for a resort that waits on you hand and feet, like peace and quiet on a gorgeous beach, this is it! We will return.

Always a good Time

This is our Third Time staying at here ! Our only complaint is that we could not stay longer! A perfect location to just relax and forget it all. The grounds are wonderful for the AM jog and then a nice relaxing day on the beach enjoying snorkeling, floating and just taking in the spectacular views. The grounds are well maintained and the grounds staff are friendly in the safe location! The room is well kept and very well equipped, Honey and Steve you make packing so easy as you have thought of it all! Thanks so much for making your condo feel like our home away in paradise !

A Dream Come True at the "Bargain On The Beach"

Surfing on line for a place to stay in St. Thomas comes with the many stressors. I was nervous about sending money to guy I did not know. I was nervous about once we got there would the place be suitable. I am writing this review to tell you you can relax! The owners are wonderful people, and great to work with. They e-mailed me all the time answering the multitude of questions I had. They electronically sent me the "B-11 Bible" with hints, suggestions, recipes, and directions. I referred to it many times before leaving for St. Thomas, and many times while I was there. So don't sweat, the owners are honest, caring people.

Once we got to the condo our eyes popped wide open and our jaws dropped. The condo area is very well kept with beautiful trees and plants with flowers. It sits on a beautiful small lagoon, and right on a beautiful beach. This bottom floor condo was very clean with very nice furnishings. It has beautiful art work hung everywhere. The kitchen and pantry are very well stocked. It was very nice having a washer and dryer. The cloths line and hose out back are very handy. There is a huge flat screen in both the living room and bedroom with tons of movies and books. We did not spend time watching tv however. The weather was so beautiful we could not stay inside. Even at night we walked along the beach and felt very secure. It is a short walk down a cement pathway to the most beautiful beach. There you meet Diane who will set you up with lounges and chairs. She has some lovely friends that sit under the shady trees with her. They are iguanas! The almost deserted beach has beautiful white sand. The water is warm and crystal clear. The snorkeling was phenomenal with a nice living reef. We saw all kinds of corals, fish, and turtles. One day we even saw a ray. There was a local barracuda that seemed to be guarding the reef. He or she never bothered us. Really there is not need to go anyplace else. We did rent a car and drove to other places, but really nothing compared to Sapphire Beach. A short drive (a mile or less) to Red Hook and there is shopping and restaurants. My favorite was Fish Tails. We ate breakfast, lunch, and a few dinners in the condo. There is a grocery store in Red Hook to get supplies. So please, this is a great honest deal for the money. You will be satisfied you made the right choice. You can't go wrong with the Bargain on the Beach! I dream of going back someday.

Glorious Vacation

We just spent 14 glorious days at B-11. From start to finish this was an amazing trip. Steve is awesome. He should be a travel agent. We were prepared for everything right down to a photo of the street scene so that we knew when to turn into the driveway. We had everything we could want and more. It felt like home from the moment we walked in. The beach is amazing. Turtles, rays, coral reefs right at your front door. If you like to snorkel you don't have to go anywhere else. We enjoyed chatting with Diane who is the beach concierge for the condo association. I am pretty sure I could have left money on a beach chair and no one would have touched it. The showers were hot, the kitchen was stocked with all the appliances and utinsils you could need. Every detail from towels to snorkel equipment is there. The location is awesome. There are a couple of restaurants/snack bars within walking distance and the BBQ at the top of the hill-Off the Grid-is amazing. Looks like a taco truck but is run by some of the chefs at the top resort hotels on the island. You can walk to the marina where you can sail for a day, take a trip to BVI, rent jet skis or charter a boat. We did it all and LOVED it. All of the services at the marina were great and you just walk right over there. Red Hook is just a couple of miles away and there are great restaurants, ferries to all of the islands, dive shop, water taxi, and a grocery store. In my opinion the east end of the island is the BEST!

Over at St Johns (short ferry ride leaves every hour on the hour) you can rent a dinghy and go to all of the world renowned beaches. You know the pictures of the leaning palm tree? It is right there at Maho Beach. All of our pictures look like screen savers. I highly recommend B-11. Amenities, location, comfort, price-it is a 10 out of a 10. If you are stuffy and uptight you should not even go to the Virgin Islands. It is a place for happy people.

Couldn't have been better!

Everything that previous reviewers of this condo said were true. The place is not a brand new resort, but you aren't paying for that either. The owners of this condo obviously go out of their way and take time out of their "real" lives to make sure that every thing you could possibly want is readily available in their "paradise" by the beach. I would recommend this condo, and more importantly the owners, to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation on a fantastic beach property without having to pay an arm and a leg. Thanks again Steve & Honey for providing my father and I a relaxing experience.

Spend A Relaxing Week On The Beach

We enjoyed our stay at this condo. Everything we needed was there. It was clean and well maintained. The beach and water were great. A short walk to both. It was one of the most relaxing vacations I have been on. Red Hook is nearby. A nice little town with great restaurants and quaint shops. We caught the ferry in Red Hook and went to St. John's for a day. Visited Trunk Bay-did some snorkeling and stopped at Cinnamon Bay Beach. We ate at High Tide on St. John. The location of the condo is excellent as you are centrally located to places you will may visit on the Island. Iggies restaurant and beach bar is a must stop. Fish Tails has the best linguini and clam sauce we have ever eaten. Stop by Duffy's love shack for lunch or a drink. Great happy hour there. It is a unique parking lot bar with souvenir drink glasses. The owner of the condo provided us will information that was nice to ensure a great stay. We would definitely come back again!
