Overview

Chapin House Rental Photos and Description

House 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6/7 - 7 add $10 day- keep rates low 2 person

Gazebo on a peninsula with 790 ft shoreline. You must see the gorgeous view to fully appreciate this property! I can gladly send you more photos of the home. I think reading comments from past guests is the best way to help make a decision. Relaxing, piece of heaven, retreat, lovely are some adjectives used.

Newly redone master bathroom and floors in all but bedrooms.

You may not want to leave to visit the many activities that are nearby. The wildlife is incredible to view and there is always fun activity to watch while sitting in the gazebo by the lake or the deck by the house. Only 10 minutes (speed boat)-20 minutes (pontoon) to see the 750,000 Purple Martins roost each night on Bomb Island during the summer months.

Can use Crooked Creek in Chapin for tennis, gym basketball etc.

Guests love the privacy of the property and the 2 kayaks that are available for use.

You may launch boats on the property. Fishermen would enjoy some of the most renowned bass fishing in the nation. Boat rentals and launching sites are nearby. We are 10 minutes from Billy Dreher Island.

You can choose between relaxing on the deck or going down to the gazebo by the lake.

There is wi-fi on site and Dish Network with 2 High Definition televisions.

We enjoy cooking and if you do, we have supplied some spices that you may want to use.

It is two hours from Charleston, SC, approx 1 hour and 15 minutes from The Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta National, 3 minutes to Timberlake Golf Plantation, other golf courses 20 minutes away (Golf is a bargain in this area). Mountains are 1 1/2 hours drive. Come see your favorite graduate at Ft. Jackson(40 min. away) the University of SC (30 min.). Many choices (museums, theatre, zoo) are in Columbia, SC just 30 minutes away. Riverbanks is one of the top 10 Zoos in the US. ,

About Ellen or Andy Faris

My husband Andy and I live on Lake Murray and absolutely love it! Andy was a pilot for Pan Am and then Delta and commuted to New York in order to live on the lake. He now is a golfer and can gladly help you with any area golf questions. I am a former French teacher and love to be in or on the lake. If you don't have a boat, my arm could easily be twisted to take you for a ride.

Ellen or Andy Faris purchased this house in 2007

Why Ellen or Andy Faris chose Chapin

We had been renting it as annual rental since 1991 and decided to do VRBO. It's been fun! We travel and have always loved staying in Bed and Breakfasts. This is the next best thing as we aren't tied down to daily work, but have the joy of providing to renters, what we think is special. We love telling people about the lake and area, but most people do not want to leave the relaxation of the water and house.

What makes this house unique

All guests comment on how much they love the gazebo, which is right beside the lake.

Renters who bring boats, love being able to launch boats from the property and park their trailers. There is a lot of room for kids to play & big 'kids' games. Sun rises are spectacular.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is an amazing lake house for a peaceful, private getaway. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery with my parents ( who flew down from Libertyville Illinois). I recently graduated from USC and very much enjoyed spending time away from downtown Columbia with my parents. It only rained one day this past week; the weather was immaculate! Hopefully the heron will be on the dock for the next visitors. We really enjoyed viewing his majestic presence. Thank you for letting us share this beautiful home for my graduation.

Island Unto Itself

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Ellen and Andy's lake house for a few days, thinking that I needed a few days to decompress before starting a new job. And it was the most "relaxing" time I've ever had in a span of five days! The photos looked amazing online, but it's much better in person. The house was clean and well-kept, and equipped with everything you could ever need (for cooking, barbecuing, and kayaking). Just come with your clothes, food, drinks and great company!

The view is amazing...and sitting on the deck (at the house and at the pier) was like watching a National Geographic show unfold LIVE before your eyes! Since it is on a peninsula, it felt like you were on your own little island! We really appreciated this being from Hawaii.

The owners responded to any questions we had almost instantly about minor issues (TV cable, etc.).

We will be planning on another visit soon, and highly recommend this gem of a place to anyone.

What a Glorious Week!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent the most wonderfully relaxing week at the Peninsula lake house! Each morning we would walk into the kitchen for coffee and be greeted by the most amazing lake views. From sun-up to sundown we were either enjoying the cool breeze sitting under the gazebo, fishing off the pier or touring the lake in our boat. The house was warm and welcoming and we felt no need to leave our little piece of heaven except to run into to town for provisions. Our hosts, Andy and Ellen were attentive and caring - and offered suggestions for sight seeing on the lake. All-in-all one of our best vacation ever. Many thanks to Andy and Ellen for making such a beautiful place available. We will be back!

FANTASTIC!

  • 5 of 5

We were coming to Columbia in part to go to the Masters, in part because we are considering moving to Lake Murray. Boy, were we ever impressed! This house is small but open and feels uncrowded. Very clean, well equipped and way more than adequate. But the location was just amazing. Wide open view as pictured, but the picture doesn't do it justice. The few boats we saw were mostly close to the other side of the lake, so most of the time all we heard were the hundreds of birds. Ducks, muskrats, geece, herons in the water and many different birds in the yard. If you love nature, this is the place. The owners are so nice, super helpful. Ellen had great tips on things to see and Andy even set my husband up with a round of golf at his club. My husband had so much fun with Andy and his friend Tom that they played together again while we were there. Friends had joined us by then and our friend got a hole in one! Just a spectacular visit in so many ways. This place is magic! Don't miss it, we'll be back for sure.

Beautiful setting and location.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful location. Very quiet and peaceful. Property was very clean and well taken care of. The owner checked with us by phone on the day of arrival to insure that all was satisfactory and if we needed anything. We had a very relaxing time. The weather was cool (50's & 60's) and cloudy. But we did manage some great lake time by renting a pontoon from Johnson Marina and using the Kayaks that are available with the rental. My grand daughter and her friend had a great time with the Kayaks. The cool weather and cold water did not dampen their stay. They are already asking when they can go back. I would highly recommend this rental for families with children or just a couple or two to get away and relax. Rental for the Pontoon was $125 a day but if you had your own boat it would be great. Especially if you like to fish. I was going to fish but the weather was not very friendly to me. WE WILL BE PLANNING ANOTHER VACATION TO LAKE MURRAY AND TO THIS VERY UNIQUE AND SPECIAL RENTAL PROPERTY.

Great Fishing Weekend Had by All.....Thank You!

  • 5 of 5

First of all let me just say Ellen and Andy were absolutely the best when it came time to rent their house...A group of us rented their house for a fishing trip and we couldn't have asked for a better location or better people to rent from. The view is spectacular and it was great to be able to launch my 22ft. boat from the property. We shall return!!!!!!

Thank You so much Ellen and Andy!! Go Gamecocks!!
