We call the house ENCHANTMENT...for it is a place of wonder and magic.
Soaring two story windows provide unforgettable lake and mountain views and each day brings a mystery of constantly changing vistas... haunting mists rise from the lake, crystal clear skies light each mountain ridge, and bears and deer have all been seen here.
The house is a true (three story) log cabin with extraordinary views from every level and furnished so each and every piece would belong to the house. From the huge four poster Aspen bed made in Colorado for the 'Gone Fishin' room to the handmade switchplates done by a potter to a dining fixture of twigs and crystals that make you think of lights in the forest...it is all as if it was always there, part of the land and the mountains.
The Great Room with its soaring two story windows has a floor to ceiling stacked stone fireplace (and yes it's woodburning). A beautiful leather sectional with chaise faces both the fireplace and a 46' HDTV with DirecTV satellite reception. The upstairs' bedrooms each have a flat screen TV, with Satellite reception. The kitchen is very large, and fully equipped. The house also has wireless internet connection.
You'll love the massive deck on the view side of the house. A huge outdoor table for eight lets you dine in the tall trees that surround it with a view that will take your breath away. And when night falls, the stars are as bright as diamonds. Just lean back and star gaze in a sparkling new hot tub set in a private alcove on the deck (magnificent trees all around).
Rather not have the sun, there are two covered areas on the deck with outdoor ceiling fans to keep you cool and comfortable. (A large canvas Umbrella is also available for the outdoor dining table). And don't forget your 'grillin' hat. There's a large gas grill just waiting for the next Bobby Flay. For lazy days when you just want to stay put, sit awhile on the front porch in one of the wonderful rocking chairs. Nature's serenade will astonish you.
The setting is private and secluded on 3.2 acres adjacent to the USFS. The National Forest and hiking are virtually just outside the cabin. (Note: For those interested in hiking on the Appalachian Trail, it's just minutes down the road). There is plenty of parking, a paved driveway, and while the property is secluded, it is only a short distance to the town of Clayton and the wonderful stores and restaurants nearby.
An amazing waterfall trail is about 10 to 15 minutes away, across from Moccasin Creek State Park on 197. (Stop in at the Ranger office in the Park for more information on the waterfall trails. You can also rent canoes there). A little further down 197 is La Prades Marina where you can rent tubes and enjoy tubing on the lake or rent a pontoon.
The wonderful Chophouse restaurant is also at La Prades. Just minutes away is what was formerly Waterfall Country Club and is now The Lake Burton Club. Kingwood Golf Course, a public course, is about 20 minutes away.
Here are some local dining tips: Try the Dillard House for one of their amazing dinners. For good pizza there's Mama G's. You'll also want to try Manrique's for Mexican.
Oh my gosh, whatever you do, don't miss Oinkers Thursday, Friday, Saturday for BBQ. Their BBQ is so good they only have to open three days a week. For special dining, you'll love the ambiance, setting and food at Glenn Ella Springs or the Lake Rabun Hotel.
One more dining secret, try the dinner buffet at the Lodge at Unicoi State Park. They have wonderful trout on most nights as well as other great choices like ribs and shrimp on Fridays (Call to confirm their menu). Unicoi also has good hiking trails as well as a swimming beach. Hike all day then eat at the lodge for dinner.
