We call the house ENCHANTMENT...for it is a place of wonder and magic.
Soaring two story windows provide unforgettable lake and mountain views and each day brings a mystery of constantly changing vistas... haunting mists rise from the lake, crystal clear skies light each mountain ridge, and bears and deer have all been seen here.
The house is a true (three story) log cabin with extraordinary views from every level and furnished so each and every piece would belong to the house. From the huge four poster Aspen bed made in Colorado for the 'Gone Fishin' room to the handmade switchplates done by a potter to a dining fixture of twigs and crystals that make you think of lights in the forest...it is all as if it was always there, part of the land and the mountains.
The Great Room with its soaring two story windows has a floor to ceiling stacked stone fireplace (and yes it's woodburning). A comfortable leather sectional with chaise faces both the fireplace and a 46' HDTV with DirecTV satellite reception. The Master bedroom with its own master bath is on the main level and has a Queen bed. The upstairs' bedrooms all have Queen beds and each has a flat screen TV, with Satellite reception. The kitchen is very large, fully equipped, and newly remodeled with stainless steel Samsong appliances. (Kitchen photos
showing new appliances pending).
The house also has wireless internet connection.
You'll love the massive deck on the view side of the house. A huge outdoor table for eight lets you dine in the tall trees that surround it with a view that will take your breath away. And when night falls, the stars are as bright as diamonds. Just lean back and star gaze in a sparkling hot tub set in a private alcove on the deck (magnificent trees all around).
Rather not have the sun, there are two covered areas on the deck with an outdoor ceiling fan to keep you cool and comfortable. (A large canvas umbrella is also available for the outdoor dining table). And don't forget your 'grillin' hat. There's a large gas grill just waiting for the next Bobby Flay. For lazy days when you just want to stay put, sit awhile on the front porch in one of the wonderful rocking chairs. Nature's serenade will astonish you.
The setting is private and secluded on 3.2 acres adjacent to the USFS. The National Forest and hiking are virtually just outside the cabin. (Note: For those interested in hiking on the Appalachian Trail, it's just minutes down the road).
There is plenty of parking, and a paved driveway. Also, while the property is secluded, it is only a short distance to the town of Clayton and the wonderful stores and restaurants nearby.
An amazing waterfall trail is about 10 to 15 minutes away, across from Moccasin Creek State Park on 197. (Stop in at the Ranger office in the Park for more information on the waterfall trails. Canoes are also available for rent there).
A little further down on 197 is La Prades Marina where you can go tubing on the lake or rent a pontoon boat. There is also a nice restaurant there called The Chophouse. Reasonably priced, The Chophouse, has a lovely view of Lake Burton and the food is good.
Also just minutes away from our cabin is what was formerly known as Waterfall Country Club and is now The Lake Burton Club. Kingwood Golf Course, a public course, is about 20 minutes away.
Here are some local dining tips: Try the Dillard House for one of their amazing dinners... An unforgettable southern
experience that draws diners from three states.
For a kind of Family style BBQ, don't miss Oinkers on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Their BBQ is so good they only have to open three days a week. For special dining, you'll love the ambiance, setting and food of Clayton newest restaurant, Fortify, or try The Farmhouse Restaurant at Persimmon Creek, Glenn Ella Springs or the Lake Rabun Hotel.
One more dining secret, try the dinner buffet at the Lodge at Unicoi State Park. Unicoi also has several good hiking trails as well as a swimming beach. Hike all day then have dinner at the lodge.
