Stowe :
Stowe is a beautiful, picturesque village where the easy, relaxed lifestyle is complemented by the wonderful scenery, excellent activities and exciting selection of around 60 eating places. These range from basic snack-type cafes to exclusive restaurants, with everything else in between...including Italian, Mexican and Oriental. Guests at Village Green may request a coupon for some of these restaurants, which usually gives 10% discount from the food bill. We're happy to reccommend our favourite places.
If you prefer to eat at home, there are a couple of excellent supermarkets, as well as bakeries, speciality food shops and pizza delivery. Summer Sundays welcome the Farmers' Market with some amazing breads, preserves and other delicacies.
Recreation Path:
Village Green is situated close to the nationally-acclaimed Recreation Path, which has a round-trip of 11 miles. It may only be used by hikers and non-motorised transport, so it is perfect for bicycles, rollerblades, etc. We're situated half way up the path and the lower half gives a pleasant meandering path into the lower village of Stowe. Much of this is by a stream, which has several natural areas to picnic or dabble your feet in the water - bliss on a hot day!
Bicycles and other equipment are readily available for hire in local shops, several of which will give a discount on production of a coupon from Village Green.
Apart from golf & skiing.........:
Although Stowe is best known for sking and golf, it has so much more to offer. There are many wonderful art galleries, craft/artisan shops, wonderful hiking and, of course, breathtaking scenery. A short drive away, you can sample the delights of The Cider Mill, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Cabot Cheese and, of course, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. The only problem is that it's sometimes difficult to do everything that you'd like to do.....
Ski:
We're in a great position for the ski areas, positioned above the lower Stowe village and just off the main Mountain Road. In the peak ski season, traffic to the ski area can be a little heavy through Stowe village, but our location means that we don't have to worry about this and it's an easy drive to the twin areas of Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak, which are interlinked by a short gondola ride. The free ski bus comes through Village Green if you'd rather not drive up to the ski area and the same bus will take you down into the lower village.
The skiing is wonderful, with many varied trails suitable for all abilities. There are base lodges with restaurants and facilities for having your own picnic, as well as ski shops, ski school and tuning.
Golf:
Village Green is situated adjacent to the beautiful Stowe Golf & Country Club and the 13th green runs behind our condo. Whilst sitting outside, we are able to see the over to the clubhouse and other parts of the course. The practise faclities are just across the road, making us perfectly situated for the keen golfer. Currently, we may be able to offer discounted green fees.
There are many, many more wonderful courses both in the immediate area and a little further afield. After Stowe Golf & Country Club, my husband's personal favourite is Williston, (approximately 25 miles). The guys in reception at Village Green are keen golfers and are always happy to reccommend suitable courses - fitting them all in is the problem!
