COZY HOUSE CLOSE TO CIVIC CENTER, DOWNTOWN AND ATTRACTIONS

Rapid City House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

I recently purchased this property and had fun decorating it and supplying it with all the amenities for your stay. It has a great kitchen equipped to prepare full meals or throw together a quick snack. It is fully stocked with all the staples to make your meal preparation quick and easy. There are complete laundry facilities. It possesses a fenced shady yard perfect for relaxing at the end of your day of touring. The house is in a quiet safe neighborhood. (My house is just around the corner.)

The house is two blocks from the Civic Center, making it extremely convenient to attend events there. It is walking distance to historic downtown where you can enjoy shopping, dining, and nightlife entertainment. Along the way you will find the walking and bike path that run along side of Rapid Creek, perfect for an early morning run or evening stroll.

A quick drive will take you to the Black Hills where you can visit Mount Rushmore, Custer Park, Crazy Horse and the quaint little towns such as Deadwood, Sturgis, Hill City and Keystone. In the other direction, is Wall Drug and the Bad Lands. Another great day trip is Devil's Tower. The house is in a perfect location with easy access to the major roads and highways to take you to your destination.

People ask me 'why did you move to South Dakota?' I tell them that it's because I love it here. (I'm a life time resident of California) After renovating and decorating my vacation rental, I decided to move on to bigger things. Now most of my time is consumed with the renovating of a house built in 1917. It's my passion to bring it back to it's former glory. My warning to you would be travelers to this area is, 'be careful, you might just decide to stay'

Amie Kelly purchased this house in 2009

I reluctantly agreed to visit a friend in Rapid City. After a long drive in the Black Hills in her convertible, I decided to buy a vacation house here. After spending some time here, I decided to sell my home in California. I then bought a larger house in which I'm renovating I recently purchased the house around the corner as an investment property in which I'm making available to you for your vacation.

This house is located two blocks from the Civic Center. It's walking distance to Downtown with the unique shopping, restaurants and night life. The central location is great with easy access to the roads that will take you to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, the Bad Lands and beyond.

We really enjoyed our stay at this house. The landlady (Amie) met us when we arrived and showed us around pointing out extra amenities to make our stay more comfortable. She even shared the bounty of her garden with us. The bedrooms were a little warm during the day but with a fan, we slept very comfortably at night. The kitchen dining area was a great gathering space for the family and seemed to be where we gravitated. It was cooled nicely by a window a/c unit. Amie was always available and immediately handled any issues we had. The pictures of the property represented the house accurately and it is very centrally located and easy to find. Overall very pleasant experience and we would recommend renting this property or any of Amie's other properties to family and friends.

The pictures of the outside of the house needs to be up-dated. The patio was over run by the bushes. We bought raid there was so many ants and otther bugs on patio. the house was not clean. there was food behind the coffee table in living room I have never seen so much dust under furniture and cob webs hanging in doorways. I was in shower looked up and from shower curtian to ceiling solid cob webs. No one has moved any furniture to vacum underneath any of it. We left a light on in kitchen and livingroom after 1st night there. I got up to get water and turned light on and bugs ran. I wanted to leave the next morning but we couldn't find another place to stay. Last minute in that area right before Sturges was going to cost us at least triple the price. The beds were so hard. Needs new mattresses on them. There was even major dust on candles and everything. I had to double up on my meds just to stay there. We didn't stay in the house much at all due to dust and bugs. Like I said they need to update the pictures. The weeds have taken over were you have to park. We will never rent from her again. We found a wonderful place in the Blackhills we will stay next time. The owner is nice but she needs to hire a maid service.
Owner's Response: I do move furniture and do an extremely deep cleaning pre season. When she stayed, it was peak season. This entire year, I have had same day check-out, check-ins, so there has been no time to move couches, beds etc. The guests prior to her had several kids which usually requires more cleaning. She also had her check in date wrong and tried to arrive a day early while the other guest were still in. (I'm so glad I had all my paperwork in place.) I did a quicker cleaning so that I could get her in early. I have mostly hard wood floors except the dinning room. I ALWAYS more the table and chairs to vacuum, especially when there have been children. The mattresses are brand new, I pursed them just this spring. I got them from the same company that most hotels use. I have to admit, the weeds are going crazy, it has been because we have had so much needed rain. I have been battling them at all my houses. My gardener treated them as I have as well. Had she looked around town, she would have realized that we are all battling weeds this year. As far as my house having bugs, that is a complete and total lie. I have never seen one indoor, nor have I heard that from any other guest. I suppose one could have come in when she had the door open, but they are not living in the house. What bothers me most about this review is that I saw her several times during her stay. I always ask if everything is alright, She never had a single complaiont. I visited with her quite some time when a brought her an ironing board (said she irons everything). She confided to me that she is OCD with cleaning, and suffers sever depression, often doesn’t leave her house for weeks at a time, so I do believe that meds story. Her stay was three weeks prior to Sturgis Rally. My son manages a local motel. At that time they had plenty of vacancies, and had not gone to Rally rates at that point. That statment about trying to relocate was also a lie.

Nice but hot

We were welcomed personally by the property owner and she gave us a tour. The house was clean and the pictures accurately reflect the rentals appearance and amenities. It was extremely hot and the room air conditioner in the living room was not even on when we got there. It was very hot and we were unable to cool the place down. It was very uncomfortable sleeping the first night. The next day the owner brought another window air conditioner, but due to the size of the windows in the bedroom, it had to go in the dining area. It helped to bring the humidity down some, but the 2 bedrooms remained quite warm. 2 fans were provided and we had brought one and purchased another. Without the fans, it would've been impossible to sleep. Also due to the heat, we felt we were unable to cook as many meals as we had originally planned. We didn't want to make it any hotter inside. The owner was very friendly and did try to make things better for us. We feel it would be a huge plus to install central ac in the house. When you are out doing things all day, you expect to be able to come back to a nice cool place to rest. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for us. We liked the house and the location was good. Having a washer and dryer was a definite plus. We would recommend this property, but not during hot weather unless the AC issue gets resolved.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry the guests were "miserable" with the heat. I do apologize that I had not turned on the AC before their arrival, and had planned to do so at noon, although they arrived prior to that. I did not think it a priority, as I was not even running my own air conditioning, and was quite comfortable. I ran mine very little while they were here. (maybe a couple of hours a day) It was somewhat warn during their stay, and the humidity was higher than usual, but I didn't feel it was unbearable. In fact, I spent the time they were here at my newly acquired house painting. That house has absolutely no AC. Although I was running up and down stairs, and very physically active, I did break a sweat, but was not "miserable". When I went to clean after they checked out, I turned off the air conditioners, and my central heat unit they had turned on, opened the front and back doors and worked in comfort. These guests must live in a much cooler climate to be as effected by the heat as they were. The guests that checked in the same day these people checked out said absolutely nothing about the house being hot.
