The cottage is on a knoll overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We are on the Schoodic Peninsula, steps from Acadia National Park at Schoodic with its beautiful scenic drive and picnic spots. The area is perfect for hiking, biking, kayaking, bird watching, star gazing, swimming at a nearby beach and pond. We are a short drive from galleries, restaurants, a convenience store and supermarket. Very scenic ferry ride to Bar Harbor in neighboring Winter Harbor. Summer events include the Winter Harbor Lobster Festival with lobster boat races and the Schoodic Arts Festival with arts workshops and music for adults and children. Just a few miles away are the working fishing villages of Bunker's Harbor, Birch Harbor, Prospect Harbor and Corea. Buy your lobsters right off the boat. Pick wild blueberries on the property and by the roadside. Visit Corea village, inspiration and home to artist Marsden Hartley as well as several other artists and authors. Scenic, 40-minute drive to Bar Harbor.
This cottage was just as described in the listing and accompanying photos. The owner has thought of everything that could be needed during a stay. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was very helpful at all times during the renting process and during the rental week. There is a very informative book provided that has information on things to see and do in the area as well as local eating places. This cottage is so close to the Arcadia National Park at Schoodic as well as many other small villages in the area. No road taken failed to provide spectacular scenery. There are many small, locally owned craft stores and art galleries to visit, do not miss sunset Grindstone Neck, the ferry to Bar Harbor, or the lobster rolls on the dock in Corea, or a day in the park hiking, biking, or just enjoying the view. I would definitely recommend this property and plan on returning next year.
This great little cottage was the perfect respite for our family! Upon arrival, we were delighted to find some local blueberry syrup. We used it to during our stay to make breakfast for dinner. :) We have two small children, 4 and 2 years in age and they enjoyed watering the plants in the flower boxes on the deck, as well as romping around in the great grassy side yard.
The accommodations are just lovely - quilts on the beds, nice fluffy towels, comfy sofa and chair. The kitchen is more than adequate and has all the basics for cooking. It even had laundry facilities (with detergents!), which means we all went home with clean clothes! The owner really did think of everything.
Just a stone's throw from Schoodic, we walked to the shore most evenings to see if we could add to our growing collection of sea glass. During the day, we took the ferry over to Bar Harbor, or spent some time checking out the area. There are some lovely places to dine in Winter Harbor. Don't miss the farmer's market!
Jackie, the owner, even stopped by and gave us some tips of things to do in the area, letting us know about a playground we would not have found on our own.
We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again!
At first I was unsure....but once we walked in and checked out our getaway cottage...it finally sunk in that we are on vacation!!! So well equipped with all the things you didn't think you needed....I cooked lobster for the first time here. And I must say there was a cookbook, proper pots n pans, n really cute serving dishes with quaint lobsters to add to the experience!!! Even if it rains, there is much to do in this great cottage!! I would suggest this place to anyone.....and would love to go back again!!! By the way there is a store about a mile n half down the road.....and they have anything....i mean anything you may need to make for a great vacation!!! Jackie is a gracious host and leaves you all the info for most of your questions...and the fireplace there is soooo super cozy....we never even turned the tv on!!!! YAY!!!
Our stay in schoodic is only enhanced by this wonderful immaculat cottage. Within walking distance to the ocean and acadia. Everything you need for few days or a couple weeks. Very quiet and peaceful. The perfect place for any kind of weather with books, games, or if you can't totally let go, satelite tv. Our second stay in what is hopefully an annual tradition. Fisherman's Inn and the Pastry/Deli are top quality places to eat, and we look forward to trying the other places close by. Jackie is a great hostess and we would recommend this to anyone looking for immaculat accomodations in a very quiet setting with a view of the ocean that beckons you to walk its rocky shore.
We loved the cottage @ Schoodic! It was comfy and lacked nothing for amenities. Everything about the cottage was just perfect, the interior reminded us of stepping into an LLBean Home catalog.....we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat away from it all!
