Our 2 bedroom house sleeps 5 comfortably in beds and the vintage trailers sleep an extra 6-7 people and rent only in conjunction with the house for an ADDITIONAL nightly fee. Details below.
You probably already know what you want to do out here in the desert... well, this is the place to do it! Whether you want to wake up early to head out for some biking or world-class rock climbing, or if you want to stay up late and enjoy the stunning night skies, we're sure you'll enjoy your stay at the Sweet 'P' Ranch. We are centrally located at about 3100 ft. elevation on the Mesa in the middle of the Holy Trinity of the High Desert: Joshua Tree, Pioneertown and the Integratron/Giant Rock area. The property offers a particularly gorgeous southwestern view of Mt. San Jacinto and Mt. San Gorgonio's peak, while giving you a front row seat for the sunset every night.
Our 1000 square foot home was hand built with love and a sharp architectural eye in 1952 by the original homesteader of the 5-acre property. The vaulted pine ceiling, large local rock fire place and open floor plan all set the tone for a warm, inviting and relaxing vibe. We are the second owners and have modernized the amenities and spread out on the property while trying to maintain the handcrafted charm that first attracted us.
Patios flow out from the house's 12-foot sliding glass doors to your 5-acre back yard where the fun begins. Relax in the hammock, practice your shot with the Red Ryder, get some exercise on the trampoline, or hit the links on our 2-hole 'All-Terrain' golf course (clubs included). The organic free-form concrete patio is flanked by our guest quarters: a 32' Airstream to the south and a 16' classic Shasta trailer to the north, both of which are available as additional sleeping areas (details below). Amidst all of this, you can enjoy a meal by the 32' arced bottle wall and sculptural pergola and then cozy up to a campfire in the ample fire pit. All the while you'll be surrounded by our growing collection of native cacti and plant species. If it gets a little warm outside you can just turn on the misters and create a curtain of cool around the patio.
Inside you'll be kept cool all summer by a large evaporative cooling system, and warm in the winter by the beautiful fireplace, space and wall gas heaters. There's plenty of seating to enjoy a movie or your favorite program. We have satellite TV and DVR's with full premium channel selection and NFL Sunday Ticket for the football fans. The round antique dinner table is perfect for a game of cards, dice, jigsaw puzzles, or any of our huge selection of board games. There are also 2 desks if you need to setup your laptop and get down to business.
Love cooking? So do we! The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to feed 20 or more for the holidays and gatherings. If you run out of room on the stove you can fire up the Weber or get the Cajun turkey fryer going. The Sweet 'P' Ranch is set up to convert to whatever you may need. There is a solid stock of spices, dry staples and condiments on hand to share. Foodies will appreciate that we stock organic goods when possible.
For those of you who are trying to live greener, we're proud to say that we are too. The house is cleaned with non-toxic and natural products, compact fluorescent bulbs are mixed in with the low-wattage mood lighting, and the landscape lighting is low-voltage and gradually being converted to LED bulbs as they become available. Water use is conserved with high efficiency sprinklers on trees and plants that are being established while we practice xeriscaping by planting only drought tolerant native plants. The evaporative water cooling system, or 'swamp cooler', uses very little water and is 10-20 times more efficient than an air conditioner. (It's also more effective and cooler in dry climates). Gray water from our clothes washer waters a garden of yucca, ocotillo, and cacti. Yeah, we have a big fireplace, but it's just too gorgeous to do without it once in a while.
We could go on about all the amazing activities in the area, but if you've gotten this far you probably already know! Just in case though, we have a great selection of guide books and info on the High Desert area that can point you in the right direction anywhere from nature to nightlife. Drive 15 minutes southeast to Joshua Tree and the Park for the day, regroup at the Sweet 'P', then drive 15 minutes west to Pappy & Harriet's and honky-tonk the night away. Wake up the next day and get your chakras aligned with a 'sound bath' at the Integratron and you're good to go. You're gonna love it.
