My wife and I have been all around the Carribean and have decided that St Croix is the best!! This home we stayed in last Feb. and again in July. The home is well kept and the veiw is magnificent. Very private. You will LOVE it as much as we do. We are planing to stay for a month next spring.
Rented this house for 10 days late last summer and had a wonderful time diving, sightseeing and dining in and out. The views of the ocean and Buck Island are outstanding, and the property is very private-clothing optional, even outside around the pool. Great breeze at night and never turned on the A/C, so don't know if it works. The home is clean, but dated, and the amenities are basic-it's definitely not a luxury rental. The internet didn't work, nor did the really old TV have a cable feed, but stereo worked for music. Many overhead light bulbs burned out. Pool is small but clean & great for a cool down but not lengths. Need a vehicle to shop & get around. Good value for the price and would go back again if the Wifi was fixed
My husband and I spent a week at Blue Horizon in Cotton Valley on St. Croix in May 2014. We picked this house rental out of several for the view and affordable price and were not disappointed!
The view was breathtaking and the colors of the water changed every day depending on the time of day and weather. There was a constant breeze so we left the windows open instead of running the AC. We spent a lot of time on the pool deck and in the pool and hammock. We know there were houses close-by but you could not tell due to foliage or they were on other hillsides.
The house itself was nice and in great shape. It is not luxurious but the high ceilings and tons of windows to look out at the awesome view made us feel like we were living in luxury! Landscaping all around the house was tropical and very pretty.
The owner was very responsive to emails and phone calls asking questions and getting deposits/payments made via Paypal. The very helpful Property Manager, Lou, met us at the airport and we followed him through The Buccaneer Resort and then to the house.
The house is not far from The Buccaneer Resort (their Mermaid Beach was our favorite on the island) had the best snorkeling, nicest water, and cleanest beach.
As others have mentioned, it is great that there are beach towels, beach chairs, music, movies, and a ton of other things other people have left so look around before going shopping. We thought Food Fair was the best grocery store, but if you need something quick, Ziggy's Island Market is close-by on 82. Ziggy's also sells cooked food and fuel. Downtown was about 15 minutes away and we thought the restaurant You Are Here had excellent pizza and Fort Christan Brew Pub had the best blackened mahi sandwich. I would recommend downloading Navigon before your trip so you can easily get around the island.
Staying at this hillside rental was definitely the best choice we could make for a perfect vacation! We look forward to returning there someday.
Sorry for taking so long in giving our review. I have been coming to the USVI since 1972. The house is situated in Cotton Valley, great location. Close to downtown Christiansted but far enough out to feel you have all the space you need. The views and the pool deck were fantastic for early in morning having coffee or at night having a drink or midnight swim. The house had everything that is needed for a great relaxing vacation. Lou, the walking encyclopedia, meet us at the airport and took us right to the house. He was just a phone call away if any problems. We definitely will stay again, if available. Normally we like to try different houses or condos but Blue Horizons Villa has a vote for a repeat stay and hopefully for years to come or at least until retirement and then a move to the USVI
This house was perfect!! My family and I spent a week there and didn't want to leave. There was every thing we needed and more. There was beach chairs, baby strollers, coolers, and tons of beach towels. We had a such a wonderful cross breeze when all the windows were open that we never had to use to A/C. The greeter who picked us up at airport was very friendly and knowledgable. At 10:00 the next morning we received a call from the property manager to inquire if everything was alright and if we needed anything else. My boys spent all afternoon in the pool one day while we BBQ in the patio. It was amazing. We will be going back to St. Croix and this is the place we'll be staying at.
Spent 2 weeks at Blue Horizon villa (4-21 to 5-5-12). View is better than the pictures, house about as pictured. If you need granite counter tops & spa tubs this house is not for you. If you want a great layout, ample room for 6, and a really well maintained island home with everything you could want in a vacation house then Blue Horizon is perfect.
Clean when we arrived, beds made, towels out,... & well stocked, as previous tenants left a fair amount of liquor and food (I wouldn't count on this always being the case, but was a nice bonus). We put away the food we got on the way to the house, unpacked & started enjoying St. Croix. Nothing to do to get the house ready.
The house is well up the hill & fairly far out the East End so a car is a must. Downtown Christiansted is approx 15 minutes away. Not much of a yard, no protection around pool and the deck has a pretty good drop so may not be ideal for small kids. There are neighbors but it's hard to tell. You can't see the houses and we almost never heard anything. Really quite a private and relaxing setting.
The owner was very understanding when we had a problem with our original booking and credited our deposit toward the new dates. He was responsive to any questions and even offered to have someone meet us at the airport to get us to the house. He has an on island property manager if a problem arises (none did).
The setting and view are wonderful, all easy to enjoy from the deck and terrace. Nice landscaping, lovely tiled pool, comfortable house with a great layout - private master suite on one one side of the living area, two guest bedrooms and bath on the other side. Well equipped kitchen, fully equipped living area with TV, DVD player and CD player, kids games, we loved being there, were well taken care of and hated to leave. Nearest beach was Chenay Bay, which was great for us, but also only a few miles from the wonderful beaches on the south side - Isaacs, Jack's, Grapetree Bay. The Market and restaurant at Blue Water Terrace is about a mile from the house.
