Overview

Kealakekua Bay House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

'Okika Lani sits at the south end of Kealakekua Bay on a private road with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Captain Cook Monument, and crescent shaped, white sand Ke'ei Beach.

Enter the gate at 'Okika Lani and walk into an inner courtyard of Bamboo Palms, orchids, and tropical landscaping. Follow the path to the main house. A reclining Buddha resides on the entry table and greets all visitors when they walk through the front door. High ceilings, an open floor plan, and the sound of waves breaking against the shoreline beckon visitors into this spectacular Hawaiian home.

A wall of glass and sliding doors opens from the central great room onto a tiled porch. It's just a few steps down to the patio, private pool, lawn, magnificent bay and ocean views. Watch the morning dive boats anchor across the Bay at the Captain Cook Monument while taking your local Kona coffee and fresh papaya by the pool. Or marvel at the resident pod of Spinner Dolphins leaping and cavorting in the pristine waters while no one else is around to see.

'Okika Lani was designed by an award winning architect in the traditional Hawaiian style of post and beam construction, vaulted ceilings, and a spacious, open floor plan. A large kitchen, great room, and beautiful master suite all grace this stunning home. Screened lanais on both ends of the house offer airy opportunities for private dining or simply relaxing out of the tropical sun. A substantial master bath boasts oversize shower, walk in closets, soaking tub, and skylights.

A separate guest cottage, accessed from the inner courtyard, also features two bedrooms (one bedroom with a king size bed the other bedroom with two ex long twin beds), shared bath, screened lanai, ceiling fans, and guest privacy.

'Okika Lani represents the epitome of elegance and seclusion amid the splendid tropical setting of Kealakekua Bay. The home's orientation to the sun and the sea make every sunset a picture perfect centerpiece for the perfect day. In the evening, try to catch the green flash of sunset, from the pool, lanai, or great room, and sip the perfect maitai at the end of a perfect day in paradise.

Aloha and Enjoy.

About The Owner

'Okika Lani was built by a U.S. corporate executive and his wife who found themselves in the unique situation of having to commute to Australia at least two times a month. Hawaii was a natural stopover. A dear friend referred them to the spot and recommended they build here as a place to rest from long travels. The rest of the story, as they say, is history.

Why The Owner chose Kealakekua Bay

Originally, 'Okika Lani was chosen for its seclusion and spectacular beauty. Kealakekua Bay provides an incredible opportunity to get away from the hustle of modern life. At the same time it is the essence of real living and an opportunity to reconnect with the soul. It has tremendous historical significance to the State of Hawaii and the Native Hawaiian Community, and for all who visit this special place, it has a life changing influence.

What makes this house unique

'Okika Lani provides an opportunity for seclusion amid the most spectacular tropic setting. Proximity to civilization maintains the security of modern services, while the sense of remoteness allows one to completely unwind from the tensions of modern society. The spectacular setting gives one a sense of peace, serenity, and complete relaxation.

Wonderful Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We shared this waterfront home with grownup children and sister & BIL rotating through. We all declared that it was the most relaxing holidays we have ever had. This may be due to the fact that that once we were there, we had little to no desire to leave and wear ourselves out sightseeing. It was a beautiful location with great views over the Bay to Captain Cook monument. Lots of whale and dolphin activity as well as big swells creating huge crashing waves and spouts had us quite entertained. The pool and deck was totally private and got a lot of use.

The home is located about 45 minutes away from Kailua-Kona, in a small gated community of waterfront properties. The waterfront is not really swimmable with a jagged rocky foreshore. This results in spectacular wave action results but no swimming from the property. Easy walks can be found to nearby parks and a few coral beaches. The surrounding region is quite rural and quite arid with raw aa-aa lava fields virtually out the back door. On days where the clouds were building up around us with precipitation in the hills and closer to town, this part of the coast seemed to stay dry.

The house is very comfortable and decorated with lovely and classy Pacific Rim and South Pacific art; testament to a fine collector's years of successful acquisitions. It has a tasteful sophisticated feel; reminiscent of a fine 1960's / 70's Architectural Digest property. It is well laid out for everyone to live the day out together overlooking the water. It's easy for everyone to do their own thing while still hanging out together.

It isn't perfect though. The huge and lovely master BR overlooking the water is quite a bit nicer and quieter than the cottage bedrooms so if everyone were paying an equal share there would be some inequality (unless you rotate bedrooms). The Kitchen appliances are a little tired and have a slightly worn feel; while still nevertheless being quite serviceable. A few plumbing fixtures in the bathrooms required fixing and seemed due for replacement. The mattresses are arguably (always a subjective thing) getting a little tired too. None of these issues were significant but make for a sense that there is some updating to do to achieve its full potential.

Our interactions with the owner were a pleasure.

All in all, this is a wonderful place to stay.

We would love to come back and would highly recommend this vacation home to anyone interested in a spectacular restful waterfront retreat.

Three weeks ,not enough !

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved the stay at 'Okika Lani. From the spacous kitchen , dinning and living rooms , to the lounge area off the master, the house works perfect for six. Having a pool was nice to take a quick dip in,when the surf was up. Lava flow beach was not suitable for swimming , but the surf crashing in made for spectacular viewing. We are going to book again ! Loved it...

Our own private resort

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'Okika Lani. What a beautiful house and location. A real gem! We had a wonderful stay and are so glad we chose it...the pictures don't do it justice. It's location is not only beautiful but feels private making it quiet and relaxing. The home is well cared for with it's comfy furniture and beds and the wonderful artwork. Between the beautiful landscaping, abundant wildlife and views of Kealakekua Bay, we felt as if we were in our own private resort. We loved dipping into the pool, snorkeling in the Bay and at Two Step. We actually got to swim with dolphins several times. The only bad thing about 'Okika Lani is having to leave! We definitely hope to return for another stay!

Lovely spot

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely place to stay. There were a few minor problems but these did not materially detract from the experience. The bedroom in the main house is very nice and the other two bedrooms in the guest cottage are quite acceptable. The living room and swimming pool and kitchen are all spacious and well decorated and the location, if one wants a quiet place, is very good. The sunsets over the ocean are spectacular! We have no regrets!
