Overview

Kealakekua Bay House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

'Okika Lani sits at the south end of Kealakekua Bay on a private road with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Captain Cook Monument, and crescent shaped, white sand Ke'ei Beach.

Enter the gate at 'Okika Lani and walk into an inner courtyard of Bamboo Palms, orchids, and tropical landscaping. Follow the path to the main house. A reclining Buddha resides on the entry table and greets all visitors when they walk through the front door. High ceilings, an open floor plan, and the sound of waves breaking against the shoreline beckon visitors into this spectacular Hawaiian home.

A wall of glass and sliding doors opens from the central great room onto a tiled porch. It's just a few steps down to the patio, private pool, lawn, magnificent bay and ocean views. Watch the morning dive boats anchor across the Bay at the Captain Cook Monument while taking your local Kona coffee and fresh papaya by the pool. Or marvel at the resident pod of Spinner Dolphins leaping and cavorting in the pristine waters while no one else is around to see.

'Okika Lani was designed by an award winning architect in the traditional Hawaiian style of post and beam construction, vaulted ceilings, and a spacious, open floor plan. A large kitchen, great room, and beautiful master suite all grace this stunning home. Screened lanais on both ends of the house offer airy opportunities for private dining or simply relaxing out of the tropical sun. A substantial master bath boasts oversize shower, walk in closets, soaking tub, and skylights.

A separate guest cottage, accessed from the inner courtyard, also features two bedrooms (one bedroom with a king size bed the other bedroom with two ex long twin beds), shared bath, screened lanai, ceiling fans, and guest privacy.

'Okika Lani represents the epitome of elegance and seclusion amid the splendid tropical setting of Kealakekua Bay. The home's orientation to the sun and the sea make every sunset a picture perfect centerpiece for the perfect day. In the evening, try to catch the green flash of sunset, from the pool, lanai, or great room, and sip the perfect maitai at the end of a perfect day in paradise.

Aloha and Enjoy.

About The Owner

'Okika Lani was built by a U.S. corporate executive and his wife who found themselves in the unique situation of having to commute to Australia at least two times a month. Hawaii was a natural stopover. A dear friend referred them to the spot and recommended they build here as a place to rest from long travels. The rest of the story, as they say, is history.

Why The Owner chose Kealakekua Bay

Originally, 'Okika Lani was chosen for its seclusion and spectacular beauty. Kealakekua Bay provides an incredible opportunity to get away from the hustle of modern life. At the same time it is the essence of real living and an opportunity to reconnect with the soul. It has tremendous historical significance to the State of Hawaii and the Native Hawaiian Community, and for all who visit this special place, it has a life changing influence.

What makes this house unique

'Okika Lani provides an opportunity for seclusion amid the most spectacular tropic setting. Proximity to civilization maintains the security of modern services, while the sense of remoteness allows one to completely unwind from the tensions of modern society. The spectacular setting gives one a sense of peace, serenity, and complete relaxation.

Three weeks ,not enough !

  • 5 of 5
Our family loved the stay at 'Okika Lani. From the spacous kitchen , dinning and living rooms , to the lounge area off the master, the house works perfect for six. Having a pool was nice to take a quick dip in,when the surf was up. Lava flow beach was not suitable for swimming , but the surf crashing in made for spectacular viewing. We are going to book again ! Loved it...

Our own private resort

  • 5 of 5
We wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'Okika Lani. What a beautiful house and location. A real gem! We had a wonderful stay and are so glad we chose it...the pictures don't do it justice. It's location is not only beautiful but feels private making it quiet and relaxing. The home is well cared for with it's comfy furniture and beds and the wonderful artwork. Between the beautiful landscaping, abundant wildlife and views of Kealakekua Bay, we felt as if we were in our own private resort. We loved dipping into the pool, snorkeling in the Bay and at Two Step. We actually got to swim with dolphins several times. The only bad thing about 'Okika Lani is having to leave! We definitely hope to return for another stay!

Lovely spot

  • 5 of 5
This was a lovely place to stay. There were a few minor problems but these did not materially detract from the experience. The bedroom in the main house is very nice and the other two bedrooms in the guest cottage are quite acceptable. The living room and swimming pool and kitchen are all spacious and well decorated and the location, if one wants a quiet place, is very good. The sunsets over the ocean are spectacular! We have no regrets!

Like living in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed in many rental homes and this is one is at the top of my list. What a beautiful property. For those who prefer resorts or city atmosphere this may not be right for you, however, for anyone who likes quiet, privacy, breathtaking surroundings and total comfort with to die for sunsets, this home is like being a Hawaii resident. We enjoyed it so much.
Almost everything is provided and very clean. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are decorated with upscale furniture. TV's in the bedrooms and wi-fi in the main house. Plentiful towels, air conditioning, laundry facilities including detergents are provided. There is a pantry with some leftovers from previous tenants, such as spices, tea bags, condiments and various odds and ends. The fridge also has vaiouse salad dressings, jams and condiments. It all helps when preparing meals and having forgotten something at the store. Costco and Safeway are located in town on the way to the house.
We had a couple of questions and contacted the caretakers Mike and Gloria, they were there for us and things were answered quickly and easily.
There is access to the bay a short walk from the house. It is not a sandy beach, but a smooth rocky area. The guys not only went snorkeling from there, but they rented diving equipment and dove from there as well. They said it was great.
The house is about 25 mins drive south of Kailua-Kona so we planned our activities accordingly. Everything worked out just fine.
We ate out a couple of nights. The Fish Hopper wasn't so good and over priced. We liked Humpy's for a quick dinner or lunch and for an amazing dinner we went to Huggo's. Make a reservation. We found out too late that there is a Sam Choy's in Keauhou at the shopping center. Would have liked to try that one.
The guys did 9 dives while we were there, 7 with Jack's Diving Locker. We did the Manta Ray dive and Snorkel trip. Once in a lifetime adventure. Great dive shop. We did the Lava boat trip, horrible ride to and from but the view of the lava was amazing. Also did Flumin Da Ditch and the Sea Horse Farm. Kids would like both of these as much as adults.
Thank you for making this property available. We would love to stay here again on our next trip to the Big Island. Mahalo and Aloho

Relaxing piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5
The true tranquility of this home is the greatest gift that it has to offer. Having the pool overlooking the ocean where we could watch the whales and sunsets made it a perfect place to get away from it all. I would definately recommend this property to those looking for piece and quiet away from the big crowds. The home is just as the pictures depicted and the yard was beautiful.
