Great weekend at the lake! EXCELLENT stay!

  • 4 of 5

My friends & I reserved this house back in August planning for Columbus Day weekend. At the time there were no reviews. In the time spanning from our reservation to our stay 2 reviews popped up that made us VERY nervous. Both reviews as you can see gave the place 1 star. After spending a weekend there I can tell you that these reviews are not fair at all. The house itself is decorated in a retro 1960's motif--very fun! It was like taking a step back in time. It was clean & had everything we needed to make it through our weekend. A few things you need to know-- this is a rented house--not a hotel. If you think you are going to need something, bring it. Toilet paper, linens, dish soap & other amenities are not included in most lake rentals. If your cell service is AT&T your phone won't work out there so plan accordingly. The ad says the house sleeps 8. There are 3 full size beds and 2 couches that are thinly padded. Just a heads up. The kitchen has everything you would need for time at the lake but the fridge is a little small. I would suggest bringing an extra cooler with some ice for your cocktails. The bathroom is enormous but as mentioned in other reviews, the blinds in the bathroom window are transparent. During the day you can't see in but once it gets dark and you turn on the lights you can see everything that goes on in there. Bring an extra sheet to hang up over the window for privacy. It has also been mentioned that the parking in the driveway is scary & it is but it is at almost all the houses on the lake. You are on the side of a hill. Best advice is to take it slow and have your passenger guide you in and out. You should be fine. All this being said, the setting is beautiful. The house is situated on one of the most gorgeous spots on the lake. The windows in the house are huge and you can really appreciate the beauty of your surroundings. The lake is crystal clear & the water is pretty shallow by the dock so getting in and out of the water shouldn't be bad. There is a deck on the house, a small deck a bit below with a fire pit & dock access. All are nice. The path & stairs to the lower deck and dock are steep but that's how all the houses are. The dock is a bit wobbly but not bad. You do share the pathway with another cottage but our co-renters were fine. We were all there for a good time & we respected each others space. All in all a great value for our dollar. I would rent this place again and again!

DIsappointed

  • 1 of 5

Also disappointed in our stay. Parking is very difficult and dangerous. Bathroom privacy was lacking, and guests of the bottom cottage (also owned by same people) have to walk by to get to their cottage. The dock is very wobbly and the only access to the water. There is no beach area and getting out of the water is difficult. The cottage does not include any toilet paper or linens, and does not state such in the description. Would not stay again or recommend.

Very disappointed

  • 1 of 5

We left the day after we arrived. The owners decided to stay in their other cottage which was 20 yards in front of ours. They and their guests used the pathway that ran through our rental propert--absolutely no privacy. The bathroom picture window faced the pathway and the blind for the window was completely useless because it was totally see through! Not at all appropriate for my husband or me, or our children. The kitchen ware was old/burnt and unuseable. The matresses were like sleeping on a floor and the pillows like paper--we didn't sleep a wink. There were no instructions for the TV remotes (3) and we were unable to watch TV. The rock pathways were slippery and one of my children fell. 9:30pm we decided to sit by the fire pit--guests of the owners went back and forth. The owner asked us if our trailor and SUV were parked by the cottage and my husban replied "yes". She told him to move it and park several yards away--in the pitch black--and walk back! When he asked if she was the owner, she said "Yes I am" and turned around and walked away. The owners and their guests were up late and were loud by their campfire. Absolutely no privacy, peace, or quiet. I tried to call and email several time, but the owner did not reply. We were very depressed having looked forward to this vacation for several months. We asked for at least 1/2 our money back and no one contacted us.
