Love for the Georgia coast and salt water activities
My fondest memories were cultivated while on the salt water of the Georgia coast and we wish to craft the same experiences for you, your family and friends at Salt Crest. Imagine the pride of showing off a big fish caught offshore, the feeling of salt on your sun-baked skin after a full day of water skiing, the excitement of pulling up a cast net full of shrimp for a low country boil, and the thrill of finding the perfect seashell on the unspoiled beach of Blackbeard Island. You can now create your own coastal memories just like these at Salt Crest.

My wife, son and I stayed here for a week in August. The house itself is great, just as described and in the pictures. It was very comfortable and clean. Fully equipped kitchen, wash machine and dryer, you really do feel at home. The grounds are well maintained, and the view from the back yard looking out on the Newport River is magnificent. The dock is a lot of fun! We didn't have our own boat, but used the two kayaks that are provided. My wife and I both kayaked across the river and around the marshes. We also used the crab traps that were provided and caught several dozen crabs. Fishing poles are also provided, though we had brought our own. Everything you can think of is really taken care of! We were impressed! We are very familiar with the GA coast, but had never stayed on Colonel's Island before. Our impression: Colonel's Island is nice in that its very laid back, yet a short drive from all that Savannah has to offer. We went into Savannah twice while we were there. Dana, the owner we were in contact with is extremely welcoming and will make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. We would definitely take a return trip!
We recently stayed in the property after 4 days in Savannah. It is beautiful. Much better than the pictures! The house was super clean and had everything we needed. The furnishings and beds were not your normal rental furnishings. It is very comfortable and homey! We loved the little "goody bag". It was very relaxing and absolutely beautiful! Dana was always so kind and easy to work with! There were so many things to do on the property, we wish we had brought our whole family to enjoy it with us. It would be a great place for friends and family to vacation together. We sat on the deck each morning drinking our coffee and watching for dolphins and the afternoons relaxing on our own "private beach". It was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever been on. Thank you so much for sharing your piece of "heaven" with us!! We hope to return soon with our whole family!
I was looking for a centrally located, quiet....non touristy getaway for 6 nights on the georgia coast. Found it at Saltcrest. What is not to love about it. Love the remoteness of the location. Within 30 mins to an hour drive to St. Simons Island...to Savannah or to Tybee Island. Was welcomed by a nice "Welcome Bag" by the owner Dana Mullins which set the tone of the house and the stay. Brought my mother (who has just gone thru several months of battling cancer) for a nice getaway trip along with hubby and son and daughter. Such a relaxing place to stay from all the hustle and bustle of the city work life and stress from dealing with her illness. We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed the catch and release of the blue crabs off the dock, firepit, St. Simons Island, Tybee Island (and yes I DID climb up all 178 steps of the lighthouse), Jekyll Island, a day trip to Savannah, Darian fishing village where we ate at Skippers Fish Camp, Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, Georgia Sea Turtle center (daughter loved this), and I spent 1 day to just lay around the house and recuperate. My favorite part of the whole experience was going out on the dock early in the morning and watching the dolphins come around. :-) . I would definitely come back here (and recommend to family and friends) to see all the other attractions I did not get to see and do. To Dana I want to thank you for shipping the "forgotten" clothes back to us...that is great customer care!
If you're searching for lodging that's centrally located for convenient day trips or simply for a great place to kick back and relax - this is it. Starting with Dana, the owner, who is one of the friendliest, most accomodating people I've ever rented from. Thanks for all your help and the thoughtful bag of goodies you left for us. The house is extremely comfortable, spacious and very nicely appointed with attention to detail. High quality furniture and luxury bedding made this comfortably elegant. Everything we needed was provided - from spices in the kitchen to extra toilet tissue and shampoo. The house was extremely clean, smelled wonderful and there was even relaxing music playing when we arrived. The outside areas are equally inviting. We spent hours enjoying the upper deck (seating for 6) and watching porpoises swimming by. There is a screened porch on the lower level and an area for grilling. The docks, fire pits and beach area were well maintained but we were too busy relaxing on the deck to enjoy them. Overall, this was a VERY good vacation choice and we hope to return when we have more time to enjoy this lovely place. We would love to bring a crowd and rent all 3 cottages for a week.
Have you ever rented a place only to get there and think, "What have I done!" that certainly didn't happen at Saltcrest - we couldn't believe how beautiful the cottage was (cottage is an understatement as it is an amazing home). Other than your clothes, you don't need to bring a thing - their kitchen had everything from different spices, sugar, flour, coffee, to a wonderful gift basket that we snacked on our whole stay - not to mention the bottle of wine. The bathrooms had everything from soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels including beach towels. The grounds had everything you could think of to keep you entertained, kayaks, fishing gear, crab pots, games, patio chairs on the beach, on the decks, on the piers. Sitting out on the deck at night looking at the stars was unbelievable. Dana helped us out with a lot of recommendations for places to eat, places to go - all good. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we had to stay another night. Our only regret is that we didn't get to meet Dana and David - sorry you didn't make it up that weekend, but thanks for a great time in a fabulous place! Jean, Jim, Jimm and Karen
Wow!! One word can sum up this review. The cottage and location are perfect for a family getaway and the pictures really do not do it justice. Dana was on call over the weekend for questions and dining suggestions and for a potato masher required at the last minute for our Thanksgiving dinner.
The welcome pack on arrival was a lovely surprise and most appreciated. All in all the accommodation is beautifully presented and very homely, I would easily live there in a heartbeat.
Highly recommended to anyone who wants to wake up to peace and quiet, picturesque sunrises, dolphins playing in the river, and all viewed from the comfort of your own bedroom!
Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.
