Bryson City House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Enjoy your stay in this beautiful, like new, 2550 square feet of luxury, with two stories for plenty of privacy. The view is so unique those working on the house kept stopping to enjoy it. 'We have never seen this before' were words repeatedly spoken even by those born and raised in the area.

The house is nestled inside a mountain and overlooks the valley below. 'It doesn't get any better than this' you'll say even before hearing the sounds coming from the creek below. Trout pushing through currents of the Alarka Creek will make any fisherman's mouth water.

The abundant wildlife provides a welcome background for the spectacular view where hawks are seen flying over the valley, wild turkeys cross the road, bobcat, deer and a black bear round out this natural environment.

You enter the house from the north on to the deck and when you open the front door you will be delighted by the Great Room and its 52 feet of glass windows and doors. The view can be enjoyed everywhere you look. The decor is luxurious with African Chestnut hardwood floors.

The dining area adjoins sliding glass doors for easy entry to the deck. Nobody is left out. Not even the cook. There is a full size kitchen with all amenities, granite counters and a breakfast bar, which seats five and everywhere you look, there is a spectacular view of the Smokies.

The Master bedroom is on the main floor and has French Doors leading to the deck, where rocking chairs await and humming birds fascinate. The queen size bed is comfortable with a thick luxurious mattress and after a good night's sleep there is nothing better than waking up to a magical sunrise.. The adjoining over sized marble bathroom, has a large soaking tub for plenty of soaking and a separate shower stall for additional privacy.

Then down to the lower level for fun in the family room. Shoot some pool, or play soccer on the fooz ball table..Perhaps a movie on the 42'screen TV, or a board game in the cozy corner and everyone is entertained. Families bond and get even closer by way of play, as we found out through a wicked game of foozball, making us all feel like youngsters!

You'll also find two oversized bedrooms, with views of the mountains in every room. One has a Queen size bed and a door leading to the bathroom for added convenience. The second bedroom is adjacent to the bathroom and also sleeps two guest confortably..

Need to do laundry? Don't despair a separate room with sink and tub, large washer & dryer makes this an easy chore.

When in the family room, walk out the sliding glass doors on to the covered deck and enjoy the fabulous views, while staying cool. Then there is the patio at the east side of the house, where you see trees and colorful flowers. Another space to hide or read a book. Everything there to socialize with family or friends, building memories to last a life-time. Best of all, the mountains surround you, so take a favorite seat when daylight turns to dusk and enjoy the burning colors of a sunset.

Dark and spooky, time for mystery and ghost stories. Head to the fire pit, while carrying marshmellows, chocolate and graham crackers. Wood there to get the blaze started and soon we're toasting treats we got taught at Scouts. S'mores-yum, yum!

There are many wonderful things to do and we highly recommend rafting down the Nantahala, or taking the family tubing down Deep Creek and picnicing under the many shelters. Our son loves canoeing on Fontana Lake, or hiking the natural forest found all around us. The grandchildren like to mine for gold or gems and people like me, enjoy finding those bargains at flea markets and antique shops.

The majority of things to do are within a twelve mile radius. Shopping for groceries at the Ingles, just 6.5 miles away and for local entertainment, check out music at the river, or live theater in Bryson City. Don't forget to take a train ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad and if you wish to stay breathless head for Asheville 1 1/2 hours away. Head to Cherokee if you're looking for a movie. There is a brand new theater with rocking chair and stadium seating. But if you're here to kick back and relax, don't succomb to family pressure. Just sit on the deck, enjoy the view, rejuvenate the spirit...take a breather from it all!

Whatever you decide to do, we'll leave plenty of information to make sure your stay will be comfortable and enjoyable.

Key words: 2-Story House on Paved Road with spectacular views and wrap around deck just 6 miles from Bryson City.

In 2003 we decided to build our house and gave ourselves the experience of a lifetime. Spending nights sleeping in the shed, while watching knowledgeable mountain men build our home.

It brought us back to the very beginning of ancestors coming to this great country with nothing more but a dream. That was the journey and we're so proud of the results.

Trudy Klug purchased this house in 2003

Bryson City is the way life once was. A community where people still help each other out, while going through tough times. It's kindness, which makes us feel connected to one another.

Over the last few years, I have come to know a neighbor by the name of Gail, whose husband Dennis passed away. She sold us the rocking chairs found on our deck. They own the Alarka Trading Post and when we told her, 'Gail, how are we going to get the chairs to our house,' her answer... 'Here are the keys to my pickup truck.' Across from her you'll find the Barker family, who'll sell you a bushel of potatoes grown in their garden.

The community shows us our past. The predictability of life, centering around family. It's a ritual of hard work, as shown by the planting of a garden, the canning of vegetables and jams, so there is plenty to eat during the winter months.

We so enjoy watching neighbors lead lives few of us remember. We feel honored and privileged to contribute whatever knowledge we possess, although at times we do feel limited; not having practical knowledge these people are looking for.

We originally found Bryson City, by taking a wrong turn. Instead of east we ended up driving west, which brought us to an area not yet developed. Seriously, no Wal Mart, and the lack of available land, will preserve our privacy forever. Only nineteen percent of land can be purchased, as the rest is government owned. The uniqueness of living in the mountains is the show of colors and a forever changing sky. It's no accident they call this region 'The Smoky Mountains.' It makes us aware we occupy a tiny amount of space in the vastness of a gigantic world. We share the land with those who came before us. Even prayers, we have learned to recite in the Cherokee language, reminding us of power and space. We feel blessed to share all we have with the people who come to visit.

More than one hundred guests have vacationed here, leaving our guest book with a wonderful array of comments.

We arrived home from our vacation well rested, relaxed and filled with wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing your house with us - it was an integral part of our vacation
experience. The house was clean and comfortable, very spacious, tastefully
decorated and filled with all amenities, as advertised. The view from the
deck and great room was spectacular and made us want to stay in more than
we originally intended. We truly felt as in our home away from home. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and will consider staying again in future.

Tremendous Views, Great Location

We rented the Alarka Shire just after Christmas this year. My family of four with our friends, also a family of four. This is more of a house than a cabin set on the top of a mountain overlooking some of the best views in North Carolina. The house is proportioned much like you would expect at home, like we were over at our Aunts mountain house for the weekend. Very cozy and inviting.
Our children (all under 8) made great use of the downstairs game area with pool table and foosball being used extensively. We made a fire each night in the fire pit located on the side of the house, a wonderful location protected from the mountain winds. We found a wonderful hiking trail just off the bottom deck that takes you halfway down the mountain, at least that's as far as we went. Word of caution to anyone bringing young children, the hills are steep.
The road into the cabin follows the Alarka river, we spent many hours on the deck enjoying the view and listening to the river flowing below.
Heading down the mountain and into Bryson City takes a few minutes but is well worth it, as downtown Bryson is a very nice country town. We also took a day trip to Asheville which was much closer than we expected.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay, our biggest disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer.
Trudy is a very gracious and wonderful host who is quick to answer any question you may have and is very, very easy to work with. She cares, and it shows through in the property. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Wonderful to see our guests having so much fun, knowing that they returned home filled with happy memories. A home away from home, is the what we strive to provide and as owners we work hard to meet all expectations.

Best Vacation EVER!!!

We knew that this place was going to be special the moment we drove up to the house, The scenery is breathtaking! Although we have a 4 cyl engine, it had no problems driving up the mountain. Paved roads are great and the driveway is next to the road. A welcome letter from the owner was waiting with easy to follow instructions. Preventing spills, not to keep water running and putting linens in the laundry baskets were tasks our boys performed. They were the ones living down in the game room and we were all pleasantly surprised by the size of the place.. High ceilings and every bedroom has a beautiful view. We were glad the government shut down ended the day after we arrived. Fall colors were spectacular on the Blue Ridge Parkway and visiting Cades Cove, he Smoky National Park, gave us closeups of deer and turkey. This is property is well taken care of and we'll definitely come back and stay again. We highly recommend it to all travelers.

Owner's Response: We thank you for the wonderful words and look forward to seeing you next year. We were glad Lady Bugs didn't swarm until after you were gone, since they appear yearly and can be a nuisance. It's the reason we don't rent our property the end of October and first week of November. We never wish to jeopardize comforts of our guests and by putting "vacationers first" is reasons they come back. "Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts." A wonderful place to stay and that’s why we keep coming back!

Trying to come up with all the reasons why we vacation here, is very
simple. The house is large and a great place to hold family reunions.
Our parents, two couples and one college student, have found a refuge
in this mountain home for the last five years. Having these
surroundings, gives us lots of areas to relax and spread out. It
makes it a joy to come together. Every one of us have their likes and
dislikes. There are those who hike, bike, or take a boat rides on
Fontana Lake. Then there are those who plant themselves in their
chairs and do nothing more, but stare at the view. This they call
“Being on vacation!” Since we’re fortunate enough to have a chef in
the family, the cooking has been superb. A modern kitchen and a huge
grill, has been a big help to get food on the table, quickly. We
found the instructions we received at the time of rental very helpful,
so we could learn how to navigate the community. It provided
directions to the stores, library, restaurants and an emergency
contact number, which we had to use only once. The problem, which
appeared to be a faulty wire was fixed in less than one hour, because
the handy man lives right on the mountain. Also, the owners kept
calling, to make sure we were back to normal. Instructions about
water usage, which we’re reminded of, because of well and septic,
talks about the need to conserve. We all took daily showers and it was
no different than being back home. You leave plenty of hot water for
the rest of the family and who needs more than a ten minute shower to
get clean?

The family room, which entertained all of us, was the highlight of our
stay and provided plenty of seating. That’s where all the action was
and after a few games of pool, darts and soccer, we had great memories
to carry back home. I am sure they’ll serve us for a lifetime. It’s
a great place to stay and we recommend it highly. We have already
made reservations for next year.

Owner's Response: We built the house, so all generations visiting would be entertained. We thank the writer for his good words, confirming our intentions were realized. A home away from home for all those visiting. "Building memories for a lifetime" spoke to our heart...!

Franklin D. says..."If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace!"

Nature -mountains- an excellent backdrop for human relationships.

Most relaxing vacation ever

Having spent our 4th summer vacation at this wonderful location we have found our getaway mountain home. Since my husband won't buy me my own vacation home, I was on a mission to find a place I was comfortable and at home in. This is it! It meets all our wants and needs; privacy with no houses you can see, beautiful unobstructed short and long range views of the mountains, a master bedroom with views from the bed and humming birds outside the French doors, open floor plan with lots of windows; clean, fully appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, plenty of towels and a large laundry room with a double laundry tub for rinsing off hiking boots. We love sitting on the wraparound porch in the morning watching the humming birds at the feeder and the clouds rising from the valley and evenings listening to the creek below with the sun setting and stars coming out (last time we saw seven satellites overhead). We love that the playroom is downstairs(not a loft) and the kids can be noisy without disturbing the adults upstairs. The layout of the house is perfect with master, bathrm and half bath on upper level and guest rooms and bathroom with playroom downstairs. Lots of room for everyone to have their own space. After an easy dinner of steaks on the grill the fire pit is so fun to roast marshmallows and get scared telling ghost stories :) The drive to the house is part of the fun. We open the car windows to hear the Alarka Creek and stop at the old cemetery to see the "always fresh" flowers. The changing scenery and spotting wild turkeys & deer is a highlight. Guess you can tell we're from Florida. The location is perfect for all the activities we love; rafting(NOC), hiking(lots of trails nearby), tubing(Deep Creek). One day we spend going to Highland and Cashiers with stops at all the easy to hike to waterfalls. Mast General Store in Waynesville with dinner at the Red Onion is also a must. Downtown Bryson City is a nice place to stroll the shops, listen to free concerts on week-ends and have your choice of eateries. There are so many other things to do within an hour's drive like Cherokee, the Biltmore House and small towns to explore that our two week stay is never enough. Also important is the ease of booking. Trudy is always helpful and informative. We were pleasantly surprised at being refunded more than the security deposit for having done some cleaning and leaving the home in good condition. You can make your vacation here as low key or exciting as you want.

Owner's Response: It's been a joy to provide a home away from home for all those who have come to visit. Being travelers ourselves, we know the importance of meeting expectations and living up to the words shown on our site. We're fortunate to have people who come back year after year. It's a great feeling and as John M. tells us,

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves
