Rustic, cozy, relaxing

We rented this cottage for a midweek family getaway and it was great. The house was only a 2 minute walk to the beach, which was fantastic, and with beach chairs, towels and an umbrella supplied, we were all set. Dealing with the owners was simple and straightforward, and they answered all our questions promptly, even when we were already out there and couldn't find the the flashlights. (They are behind the front door). Everything was exactly as pictured on the website, and while this is not a luxury property, we really enjoyed the relaxed and rustic atmosphere and found everything comfortable and charming. Though there is no AC, as is true of many Fire Island houses, we got along fine without it even at the height of the summer heat. There isn't any public wi-fi in Davis Park (that I could find), and phone service is pretty spotty, but in a way this made our trip all the better as we were forced to get away from our various devices and actually relax.
One other note: There is only one little store in Davis Park, and the supplies are pretty limited, so definitely make the effort to bring your own groceries over - we brought everything from anchovies to zucchini and were glad we did! Overall, a lovely getaway for a good price, and thanks to Ray and Lydia for making it as easy to plan as it was to enjoy.
