Where is our security deposit?

We rented the cottage in August 2010 and enjoyed our week on Black Lake. However, it is now late October and we are still waiting to get our security deposit back despite leaving the cottage spotless! It also seems that the owner no longer takes our phone calls.
Owner's Response: Mrs. Roe,
First I apologize that your angry, but lets state the facts of the situation. First, after your stay I had contacted you about 2 outdoor chairs, that where missing, you claimed to know nothing of this, I have taken your word for it. In early October when you contacted me about your deposit I explained to you that I did not typically cash the deposit checks and would need to check with my bank to see that it was actually deposited. I have yet to confrim that, but again have taken you at your word. Last week as promised I set out to refund your deposit and had misplaced your address, so Monday, just 3 days ago I spoke to your husband and explained to him that last week when I was in the process of trying to find your address I had forgotten to send the check.
To summarize, I have never avoided any calls, in fact have returned your call almost immediately and left a message on your machine with no personal message. Frankly until I have confirmation that your check was deposited I should not send the refund, but take you as a honest person. Furthermore the refund should be only $250.00 for the missing chairs, but again I will take you at your word, so to post such a review when you had such a wonderful stay by your own admission, and the above circumstances is unfair. I again apologize that you are angry, I apologize for being human and making an honest mistake, and I guess your reveiw is proof, no good deed goes unpunished.
