Overview

Sturgeon Bay Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms + Loft Sleeping Area, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6-8

When you check our reviews you will notice that there was 1 reviewer that mentioned a mold smell in the down stairs bedroom. This problem was addressed in the Fall of 2013 and no longer exists. Rest assured that the Log Cabin is 100% mold free.

The cottage doesn't look like much (to say the least) from the OUTSIDE. Please take a close look at the pictures on the INSIDE - you will see the beautiful cedar logs and white stone fireplace that make this Cabin so special.

My mother and father built this Log Cabin in 1950 on the 'Quiet Side' of Door County near the the borderline of the Whitefish Dunes State Park. As you look out the windows you will see beautiful Lake Michigan along with white birch trees, an assortment of evergreen trees, the sand dunes. The beautiful Sand Beach begins at your door. The sand on the beach is so clean that it 'squeaks' when you walk on it. You will absolutely love our beach! Relax and build sand castles with your kids. The water is very clean and the drop off is very gradual - ideal for kids of any age.

Rustic Log Cabin with a big sand beach!

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying at this beautiful, rustic log cabin for the past several years. The description on the Homeaway site is accurate but really does NOT do this place justice. It is very clean and full of charm and family memories. There are spectacular views of Lake Michigan from nearly every window. Listening to the waves crash on the shore at night is soothing and puts you to sleep. There is also a very strong wireless connection throughout the cabin as well as a nice size TV.

The first thing our family does when we arrive each year is walk down to the beautiful sand beach and just enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. We also enjoy walking to the Cave Point Park and hiking in the Whitefish Dunes.

For a single family I highly recommend this cottage on the lake.

Door County Treasure - a Log Cabin ON the Beach

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful Log Cabin was exactly as advertised on the Homeaway website. One of the owners (Fred) assured us that the former problem with mold in one corner of the cabin had been addressed and he was correct - we did not experience any of the odors that a another group mentioned in their review. Our entire family (including our 2 dogs) loved spending time on this beautiful sand beach on Lake Michigan. The water level drops off very gradually so it was ideal for our younger children. On the lower level there is a full size kitchen and table that seats up to 6 people. There is also white stone fireplace that makes awesome fires. Finally there is a bathroom with shower and a full size bedroom and closet. Our kids loved the upper loft level which overlooks the family room with fireplace. There is a very strong wireless signal and LCD TV. If you like being on the water this place is ideal. The views are incredible and the cabin is beautiful.

Great ... with a couple caveats

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed 5 wonderful days at this log cabin, which - as others have said - is as described. Fred was prompt and helpful in responding to our questions in advance of our arrival. A couple things you should know: the ladder to the loft is steep, making it a challenge for anyone who may have to make a trip to the bathroom during the night. For persons who have challenges with fragrances, know that we found the bedroom on the ground floor had a fairly strong mold smell, which is understandable for an older cabin. In addition, the strong fragrance of odor eliminators placed throughout the cabin was a challenge for us, since we're sensitive to strong smells. Fortunately the weather was nice, so we could keep the windows open to provide fresh air. The cabin contains fun and remarkable family memorabilia, which provides for interesting reading. One final piece: it took a follow-up email and two weeks to get our deposit back, a bit of a surprise, given how responsive Fred was on the front end.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your thoughtful input. We have addressed the mold issue in the downstairs bedroom - we are now 100% mold free - this has been tested by a person with allergies to mold. We no longer have a need for the "odor eaters" we had been using. Regarding the delay in returning your deposit - that is NOT typical. I was delayed a bit because I was waiting for a statement from our cleaning service.

What we hoped for...and then some.

  • 4 of 5

This vacation was exactly what we hoped for and more...We travelled with 3 teens, 2 adults and 2 dogs and each of us loved our stay in our own ways.

We loved the original log cabin setting and the beautiful view, along with the beach itself.

The location was perfect for our quiet family vacation and the other area we enjoyed visiting was Fish Creek.

The beach and water was very clean and Fred was so easy to work with and answered all my questions prior to our arrival.

Waking up to the sound of Lake Michigan, the views, a walk, run and just "being" for the week was wonderful. I enjoyed witnessing the spirit of the place spark my family, including my husband naturally get back into sketching effortlessly as he sat near the picture window.

Thank you.

Exactly as described!

  • 5 of 5

This log cabin is situated on a private sand beach, as close to the water as you'd want to be. The water is shallow until you get pretty far out . . . perfect for wading and water games.

It seemed fairly private because of the high sand dunes between the cabin and the houses next door.

I would recommend this for a large family, as it has a lot of beds.

The beach views from the living, dining, and kitchen areas were stunning.

The Glidden Lodge restaurant is fairly close and has water views from every table.

We enjoyed every day of our stay. So lucky to have found it on the HomeAway site!
