Why Rob & Claire Harrison chose St. Helena Island

The lot is exceptional - VERY private & closeby to a private roadside zoo, perfect for small ones to view all kinds of unique animals: peacocks, Emus, Shetland ponies, llamas, camel, goats, turkeys, goats, ducks, pigs, rams, sheep, horses, etc.; nearby launch too.

What makes this house unique

again.......perfect

  • 5 of 5

Once again a perfect stay. The house was immaculate and as always well appointed, We really liked the addition of the new ice machine as it is always nice to have an abundant supply of ice on hand. The fishing of the dock was excellent. We enjoyed the new grill as well. Our favorite restaurants when visiting the area never fail to please.......we recommend Moon Doggies in Port Royal in particular. This property always makes us feel like we are in our low country home away from home. Rob and Claire are a joy to work with and strive to make your stay as comfortable and stress free as possible.

A Spring Break to Remember

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and we packed enough fun and new experiences in that afternoon to justify the entire trip from New York. This place is awe inspiring, and we loved walking around the home soaking in all the originality and details it had to offer.

We visited the Sutcliffe Farm right around the corner and Hunter (Sutcliffe, I presume) was nice enough to bring us through the entire farm telling us about the animals and his family. This was fun for the entire family. The peacock, with his run of the farm, seemed to be everyone’s favorite.

Being from upstate New York, setting crab traps was nothing we had ever done before, but we baited them with chicken drumsticks and caught our first crab. The kids loved setting traps and checking them frequently to see the fruits of their labor. We caught stone crabs, blue crabs, hermit crabs, whelks, and even the occasional jelly fish that got caught in the netting. We were surprised that they would glow green in the evenings.

We would all explore the sands at low tide to see what the high tide left us, and the bounty was always changing: old bottles encrusted with barnacles, large whelk shells, horseshoe crab skeletons, interesting looking drift wood, and loads of new sea creatures would surface daily. We made great use of the kayaks, and we had very close encounters with the dolphins with one nearly jumping across the front of the kayak! The kids were never bored, and having 7 kids in the house, ranging from 5 months to 15 yrs., that is saying a lot.

We could have stayed at the house all week and not needed anything more, but on the days that the weather didn’t cooperate, we ventured to nearby islands and towns. We visited Hunting Island State Park and walked the trails and beach. We climbed the lighthouse ($2 additional charge, but we felt it was worth it) and took pictures from the top.

Interestingly, the road towards Lands End was rich with historical sites: church ruins, Penn School (the first school established for freed slaves), and at the end of the road sits Fort Fremont, which is now a park. The park has a beach access to a public beach great for exploring, or soaking in the sun.

We had a terrific time, and one that will never be forgotten. I’ve never been more relaxed than I was slowly rocking in the hammock down on the dock listening to all the birds and feeling the cool breeze off the water. Thank you for allowing us to share in your little slice of Heaven!

Lowcountry winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a nice long term stay here at Eddings Point. Despite some chilly nights and days we kept warm by the fireplace in the living room, reading from the well stocked library or doing jigsaw puzzles on the wonderful round table. The kitchen was well equipped and easy for two people to work in. The dead end road was safe and great for walking our dogs as well as the yard for playing ball or Frisbee with them. Fishing off the dock was fun even though we didn't catch anything. But we did enjoy almost daily dolphin sightings and watching the many shorebirds. Even the neighboring farm's peacock and tame deer paid us a visit. That farm made for very entertaining walks where we saw goats, sheep, ponies, a camel, donkeys, pigs, emus, llamas, horses and more!

There is plenty to do and places to eat in Beaufort and Ladys Island-only 10-15 minutes away. The wonderful new library on St Helena Island has internet and the Penn Center nearby are worth the visit. Hunting Island State Park is the best with beautiful, easy to walk on beaches, a great lighthouse to climb and fantastic walking or biking trials. Be sure and visit the nature center there too. So nice to have the free pass available for our use. All in all we would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a short or long term stay in the lowcountry. Rob and Claire were always helpful and available. We thank them for sharing their home with us and our dogs.

Fantastic Thanksgiving Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Wow, Rob and Claire provide exceptional service for an unbelievable vacation getaway. They have thought of everything!! I loved getting a packet of information in advance so we could share with our family and do some planning ahead. We've spent lots of time in Beaufort, but it was great to get a comprehensive packet. Though once we got to the house, we really did not want to leave. It was a bit of an adjustment to not have Internet even through our phones, but it was GREAT to be off the grid for a week! We did find a nice internet cafe in Beaufort for some essential communications.

The house is perfect--very comfortable and equipped with everything you might need--even an ice machine! The weather was rainy so we didn't spend too much time on the dock--but plan to head back soon to do that. Despite the weather, we saw dolphin every day and lots of birds too.
