The Rabbit and Dragon cottage is old Hawaii at its best. It is located in a secluded, quiet, gated community in Kapoho and features its own thermally heated, crystal-clear pool fed by the ocean in the backyard. As you open the windows, you feel the cool, consistent breezes coming through this cottage from the Pacific. It is conveniently located to all of nature's wonders. The infamous Champagne Pond, where you can swim with the sea turtles, is a two-minute walk.
With a view of your private pool from the back lanai that stretches across the entire back of the house, relaxing and enjoying the wonderful weather that Kapoho has to offer is a must.
The cottage sleeps six comfortably with two full bathrooms. It has large indoor/outdoor living areas that make finding your own special space easy to do. A private, master bedroom and bath compliment this home beautifully.
The living/dining/kitchen area have a very open feeling wonderful for cooking, dining, and some TV watching with satellite TV and VCR. The large indoor/outdoor porch make entertaining an absolute breeze. There's also a washer and dryer for your use.

I so loved this sweet vacation home away from home! Perfect for a single person, but can accommodate a family too. Absolutely the Best things about it, are the wonderful private thermal pool, and it's location in the Kapoho Beach community. For a crazy water person like myself, this is HEAVEN! WaI-Opae, Millionaires, Champagne Pond, Kapoho Bay, etc it's all here!
The house has everything you need- down to extra snorkeling gear and noodles.
Yes the Coqui frogs are LOUD here in Puna. Bring earplugs if it bothers you at night. They DO stop around 3/4 am tho.
Jeana was awesome- extremble helpful!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rabbit & Dragon!
The kids (6&8) got up early every day and had a swim in the hot pond - they just loved it.
The house is very spacious and well furnished. The photos don't do it justice - it's a gorgeous place. Our only complaint would be the nightly frog concert - it's very noisy and kept us awake for the first two nights. Otherwise we loved everything about this property. Thank you so much!

I'm afraid to say all of the great things about this house as I see the availability dates are getting fewer and fewer. Lets sum it up like this, I live on the other side of the island and have a check ready for the owner whenever he decides to sell it. The pond is epic!
We arrived the day after the hurricane, not knowing what to expect. Didn't have time to look for another place that afternoon in Pahoa, but were willing to accept "no electricity" during our stay. Ron was helpful in giving us alternative direction to the house because of road closures. Since we were not able to cook, we got to explore local restaurants in Pahoa. There are many good restaurants, and if we had stayed longer, we would have visited them all.
The main reason why we liked the place is the adjacent pool. It is so relaxing that we weren't bothered at all by the lack of electricity inside the house. My son spent more time snorkeling outside in the warm pool (so warm that you can spend hours there) and not be tempted to watch the cable TV inside. He said that he found a puffer fish hiding in the rock wall. The pool is the same size is your hotel pool, but enormously more enjoyable. We brought our own snorkel equipment, but the house plenty for you to borrow. Alternatively we spent time at Champagne Pond. Unfortunately we didn't see any turtles there, but found numerous pipe fish and a good size puffer fish.
Kapoho got hit hard by the hurricane. No damages to the house. Hopefully electricity can be restored soon so that more people can visit the area.
When visiting the Big Island, we had previously stayed with friends who live nearby in the Kapoho Beach Community, but their downstairs unit is now occupied, so we ended up at Rabbit and Dragon. The house is comfortable, well-equipped and surprisingly spacious, but the real draw for us, especially our kids, was the warm pond. It is large, private, beautiful and so enjoyable that our friends ended up spending more time at Rabbit and Dragon than their own house during our visit.
The owners were responsive and friendly, and had clearly been attentive to previous guests' requests for minor changes. No significant complaints from us, though we did find the mattress in the master bedroom a bit soft for our tastes.
We would come back to this beautiful, remote area and this house even if our friends didn't live here. The warm water of the champagne pond and the Ahalanui pond, as well as the incredible snorkeling at Waiopae, are the big draws for us in the immediate area.
Thanks to Ron, Mark and Jeana for a great stay. Can't wait to come back.
We stayed there for a month and loved it!! This was our second time. The best thing there is the thermal pond. We have looked around the neighborhood and think this one is the best! It is about the length of a regular swimming pool, surrounded by 2 fences, a wall and lots of vegetation, like coconut trees--TOTALLY private (skinny dipper's delight). Water temperature is just right too. Leaves drop in the pool during the day, but the next morning, they are all gone. How this happens is a mystery. The water level goes up and down with the tides. Snorkeling (they furnish equipment) at Champagne Pond is a block away. Fantastic snorkeling is only several miles away at the Tide Pools. You have to climb over some lava, but it is well worth it. Beautiful coral reef and lots of gorgeous fish. The house and furnishings are unpretentious. The house is very homey though. Beds are comfortable. A good beach house.
