CASA FRANGIPANI - OCEAN VIEW VILLA IN MONTEZUMA, COSTA RICA

The other vrbo reviews of Casa Frangipani have it right. The villas are modern, comfortable, and impeccably clean, offering stunning views of the ocean. Sunrises/moonrises from the rooftop were jaw-dropping. The outside shower off the bedroom was definitely a plus, as was the (extremely quiet) A/C in the bedroom for comfy sleeping. The pool offers fantastic vistas as well, especially at night for stargazing. Rebeca runs a solid operation, gave helpful advice, and never gave us pause for anything. Alex was also extremely helpful -- he even helped us change a flat tire! Speaking of cars and tires, a 4x4 is a must for the small road to the villas, as well as for any side trips to Mal País or Cabo Blanco or Santa Teresa, etc. We also drove to Montezuma from Liberia, and the road from Playa Naranjo to Paquera would have been impassable without 4-wheel drive. Once you're out of the car, the walks to/from the village of Montezuma are steep, so plan accordingly. These walks were no problem for us, but not everyone's cup of tea. On the other hand, the situation of Casa Frangipani is SO beautiful, and its elevation really gives you the sense of being nicely removed from the village... and everywhere else for that matter. All in all, this is one of the nicest places I've stayed in Costa Rica (I've traveled all over the country), and indeed one of the most peaceful, beautiful, and all around wonderful places we've stayed anywhere in the world. We'll be back, as soon as we can!

My husband and I spent 7 days of our wedding and honeymoon at Casa Frangipani and had the most amazing time. The pictures truly do not do it justice. The grounds are incredible with lush foliage and flowers that are incredibly well maintained by Alex....who somehow still manages to find time to answer any questions you have or help you find your way into town or down to the waterfalls. Rebecca was so helpful, she had fresh tropical flowers and champagne waiting in the room upon arrival and helped our siblings buy/plan out surprise dinners for us from the states.
The villa itself was better than we could have hoped for, the rooms were of ample size and the bed was very comfortable. The villa was cleaned daily and looked great every evening when we came home. Although there was a shower in the house, I never used it, one of my favorite parts of the day was showering in the outdoor shower, so refreshing.The balconies were amazing, I Iounged on the couch with a cup of coffee every morning for sunrise listening to the Howler monkeys and returned around sunset time to watch the hummingbirds. The kitchen had everything that we needed, we really enjoyed opening all the windows and cooking dinner with the ocean breeze coming in. The pool was such a nice treat, we took a late afternoon dip everyday.
As for the roads to and from town, they are a bit steep, there is a 10min shortcut trail that leads to downtown but is not an easy hike so for those not looking for a sweat inducing work out to and from town, a car or quad would be best....we personally really enjoyed the short hike to and from town, we used the hike in lieu of our morning workouts. The hike down to the waterfalls was about 15minutes and worth the climb, the falls were beautiful and the water was cool and refreshing!
I can not think of a better way to have spent our wedding and honeymoon, thank you to all at Frangipani....we are already discussing our next trip!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Frangipani. It is such a wonderful spot and Rebecca and Alex and the crew do an excellent job. Rebecca was always available to help us and I even called her on Christmas day and she had no problem. Waking up to the Howler monkeys and seeing the hummingbirds surrounding the deck was so amazing. The pool was a dream. Great value but as many guests have mentioned, you need a car here. It is too removed from beaches and the town etc to walk. However, taxis would probably work. My only suggestion is they get the town to fix the road into Frangipani as the road is very hard on tires.
