Once you get here you won't want to leave the Knotty Pine...maybe it's from exhaustion because you just had fun canoeing, hiking, fishing, golfing, or had some other outdoor adventure, or maybe you don't want to leave until you etch the peaceful moments in your mind as you are relaxing in the Knotty Pine's outdoor six-person hot tub viewing the stars and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

This three bedroom cottage with two full baths can accommodate six people comfortably, & up to eight people using the new futon. Dine inside or outside: There is a fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, and dining area, two couches (one a futon) in the living area with a woodstove insert in the fireplace. This is a great place to get cozy on cold nights, or on nice summer evenings sit outside on the large deck, cook on the grill, have a fire in the fire pit and listen to the sounds of nature and the Shenandoah River running, if the water's not low. Bring your IPod or MP3, & great sound w/ Bose SoundDock.

Enjoying the Shenandoah River....: A canoe and four tubes are available for you to play with in the river, in the summer. The Shenandoah River Outfitters is just 1 mile from the cottage, if you need a shuttle for the canoe, or need to rent more canoes. Walk out the door of the Knotty Pine & you can hike the George Washington National Forest. It's a short 10 minute walk down hill to the river, or drive, plenty of free parking. Walk for more than a mile along the river on George Washington National Forest property from #8 to #9, stop & fish, or just sit & listen to the sounds of the river. Enjoy all this area has to offer, but also relax and do nothing at the Knotty Pine Cottage.

Exploring Luray.....: Just 10 miles from the Knotty Pine to Luray Caverns, Luray Airport, & Caverns Country Club Resort Golf Course, (there are many other Golf courses in the area too.) Luray Zoo has exotic animals & a petting zoo which is a favorite with children. Stop by the Art Warehouse in Luray. Visit Shenandoah National Park & drive Skyline drive. Hike in the park to see waterfalls & wildlife. Appalachian Advantures offers ATV's & Jet Ski's rentals, guided fishing trips, hunts & more. Fort Valley Stables offer guided trail rides, & is only a 20 minute drive from the Knotty Pine. Sheandoah Speedway is a 30 min. drive, but worth it for the racing fans in your family! There are endless activities offered in Luray: concerts, art shows, etc..check the Visitors Guide and/or with the Chamber of Commerce, of which I am a member.

Luray is the Cabin Capital of Virgina: I had a wood sign at my home 'The Knotty Pine' before I ever considered renting it out as a vacation rental. I started renting 'The Knotty Pine Cottage' to guests before Page County became the Cabin Capital of Virginia. I think somehow this was all in the cards....I love the Shenandoah River, the Mountains & enjoy helping others have a great experience when they come to the Luray area; by sharing my home & providing them with a comfortable & fun place to stay! The Knotty Pine is 10 miles north west of Luray (apx. 15 min. drive). The Knotty Pine is up a steep, unpaved, hill off South Page Valley Rd. & about 1 mile before you come to the Shenandoah River Outfitters. We maintain the road, so most times a 2 wheel drive car can get to the Knotty Pine, however in bad weather, it may be necessary to have 4 wheel drive. If considering a canoe trip, keep in mind, you will need a vehicle to haul a canoe, tiedowns or bungies to secure it. A shuttle another 'pick up' or 'put in' can be arranged @ Shenandoah River Outfitters if you have only 1 vehicle. They shuttle canoes only -NO TUBES. You may want to check with the Staff @ Shenandoah River Outfitters, about river conditions before you go down the river!

It is a short, 10 min. walk to the Shenandoah River, #8, public boat landing.Free Parking. A mile of George Wash.National Forest property along the river, to walk, fish,swim or ride the river with the tubes. Get a fishing licence on line from the Fish & Game Comm. I am happy to help you plan a river trip, using the Knotty Pine's canoe & tubes, provided for guests. Also you may want to plan a river trip with the Shenandoah River Outfitter's. Reserve several canoes/tubes, & add on to meals that they have planned - Lunch on the river - Then back to SRO for Steak & Music, & 1 mile back Knotty Pine.

Of course Luray Caverns is a big hit, as well as, fishing, & hiking in Shenandoah Nat. Park or Goerge Washingtion Nat. Forest.

Other Activities: Art Gallery Warehouse, Theater, Luray petting zoo, Antiquing, horse back riding, tour a winery, take a scenic drive on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park; or just relax, get a massage, soak in the Knotty Pine's deluxe Hot tub!

Golf: Luray Caverns Golf Course, is close to Luray Caverns & the Knotty Pine Cottage. This beautiful golf course is surrounded by mountains!

There are many other beautiful mountain view golf courses in the surrounding area for the avid golfer to try out as well.

Ski: Massanutten Resort offers Skiing & other Winter Sports. Also check out the Indoor Water Park! About a 45 min. fr. KPC; just south of the town of Shenandoah.

Skiing at Bryce Resort is closer to an hour drive, past historic Orkney Springs.

  • We start you off with basic supplies, & there is a cabinet full of towels in each bathroom, however, you may need to bring additional supplies for your stay, especially longer stays or larger groups. We replace some new linens every year, including: towels, sheets, blankets, & comforters. ~ The bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible, although other rooms in Knotty Pine are. Someone who has partial mobility may be able to pivit from a wheelchair into the bathroom, but I am sorry, they are not handicap accessble. A shower chair can be used in the tub/shower in the hall bath. Call me to details.

Living rm. 32' LCD TV w/DVR, DVD & sm. movie lib. Master bdrm, TV w/DVD. Corner bdrm w/ small flat screen TV. Blue bdrm w/ boombox for CD's, tapes, radio. All of the bedrooms & dining area have ceiling fans, & two air conditioners are built in to cool the whole cottage in the dog days of summer.

Notes: The Knotty Pine can comfortably accommodate 6-8 people. Extend the kitchen to seat 6-8 people when 1 or both leaves are added. There are extra chairs, & tray tables. In the summer, there is plenty of room to dine outside on the 900 sq. foot deck. There is a toaster oven, toaster, food processor, & ample kitchenware. ~ The cottage is all one level, with a half step at the entrance from the small concrete porch. It is wheelchair accessable inside, except for the bathrooms. ~ In addition to a canoe for guest use, there are 4 tubes available. Swinging on the log swing & listening to the river, or relaxing in the hot tub are probably the most enjoyable amenities at the Knotty Pine. The hot tub is a 6 person deluxe model, with an assortment of 25 different jets, plus a waterfall neck jet. It is a 10 min. downhill walk to the river, or drive; to a public boat landing, where there is 1 mile of National Forest Property that you can walk along, fish from, or play in the river with the tubes.

Perfect Fall Holiday Spot

My husband & I just spent 4 wonderful days at the Knotty Pine along with two of my brothers and their wives. Four of us came up from FL and wanted a place where we could enjoy "Fall". The cottage was everything we could have asked for and more...beautiful views, quiet location, comfortable beds, very well equipped with everything you could need, clean and well maintained. The deck was awesome; loved the swing, hot tub, and mountain views. We ate in for breakfast and dinner...and the husband chefs produced delicious meals from the kitchen which lacked for nothing. We enjoyed hiking down to the river and other excursions which took us to small towns, a winery, and Skyline Drive. Their is much to do within very easy driving distance from the cottage. In addition to how great the cottage was, the owner, Madge, was so helpful and accommodating. It was a pleasure working with her. She was always quickly responsive and helpful. Everything about our stay was wonderful. It was a joy to see the Fall colors and the weather was beautiful. I'd love to think we'll be back some day! Patty

A Peaceful Getaway

Knotty Pines is a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The house is very comfortable and quiet and set deep in the mountains so we didn't have to worry about any traffic or congestion. We'd recommend staying here to anyone looking for a quiet getaway for some hiking, canoeing or outdoor activities that needs a cozy, comfortable house to come back to at the end of the day.

Perfect getaway!

Madge and Sandy,

Just home from our stay at The Knotty Pine and from collecting our two Boxers from their "vacation". I can with all certainty say we enjoyed ours much more than they did theirs. : )

The Knotty Pine is the perfect place to do as much or as little as you like. We visited vineyards and had dinner out twice in Luray but beyond that just soaked up the peacefulness of your lovely home.

The cabin was spotless and has everything needed to prepare meals, which we did a lot of. Sandy...we did our best to leave everything as clean as we found it, (cooking like we do makes quite a mess!)

The view from the deck is beautiful. Dan took an amazing picture of the sun coming up over the river. We should send it to you and you can add it to your photos if you like.You will not find a better place to totally relax and enjoy!

This was our third trip to Luray and the third cabin we have stayed in. While we have no real complaints about the others, the Knotty Pine is by far our favorite.

Madge, you have saved us from searching for a place for our next visit. When the time comes we will surely be contacting you. Thank you for making us feel so welcome...and for the added help when our "modern technology" directions failed us.

Anyone looking for a peaceful, welcoming, comfortable place to enjoy, look no further. You will find it at the Knotty Pine!

Just awesome-it had everything. So relaxing and tranquil, especially the view of the sun setting on the Shenandoahs. My blood pressure dropped the second I arrived. I was very depressed when I had to go back to "reality". Can't wait to return.

Wonderful Views, Comfortable and Roomy

Just back from another few days at the Knotty Pine. As always, the experience was great. Used the tubes provided at the cottage to float down river for a few hours, soaked in the hot tub, grilled our dinner and had a great evening around the firepit. Doesn't get any better.
