My wife Jennifer and I chose this spot on Trail River to raise our children because of its incredible beauty. Trail River Gardens is located just 20 min from Seward in the heart of the Chugach mountains on beautiful Trail River. From our deck the river is just 50 feet away with the majestic Mount Madison as a back drop. There are lakes above and below us with mountains on all sides. You can walk to hiking trails to even more mountain lakes. If you like to hike and watch birds and other wildlife, then you will love it here at Trail River gardens.

We have lived in Alaska for 30 yrs here on beautiful Trail River. We also have a gift store, coffee shop and bakery in Seward.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1994
I built the vacation rental because of the beautiful location. The cottage was originally built in the 1940's and I completely rebuilt it in 1997.
The cottage is located just 50 feet from the river. the view from the deck is no less than spectacular. There are lakes above and below us with mountains on all sides. There are lots of birds and other wildlife around us and many hiking trails.
We stayed at the Alaska River Cottage in June , total of 7 of us and it was fantastic! The scenery was spectacular, we saw eagles on our first day. It was exactly what we were looking for, beautiful scenery, fishing, hiking and close proximity to shopping and fishing excursions. Our hosts were wonderful and made us feel very welcome. I would recommend it to anyone!
My husband and I along with another couple stayed at Russ & Jen's cabin for 3 nights. We had the best time grilling salmon on the deck, fishing in the river in front of the cabin using a rod that Russ lent us, and exploring the gorgeous surroundings.
Russ & Jen are truly the best hosts you could ask for -- Russ told us about things we should see and do in the area, and gave us a good feel for what it's like to live a self-sufficient life of fishing & hunting in Alaska. Jen brought us delicious pastries from her bakery The Ranting Raven in downtown Seward.
The location is perfect -- just a short 20 minute drive to Seward & Exit Glacier with breathtaking views of the bay the entire way. We must have stopped at least 3 times every time to take pictures.
This was by far our favorite cabin during our 10 day Alaskan Adventure! We would definitely stay again!
The whole experience, from booking with Russ, through our three night stay was great. The cabin exceeded our expectations and proved very comfortable for the four of us. Jennifer even surprised us with an apple cake that made for a great snack on our way out in the morning. Our only regret was that we were too tired each day after fishing all day to take advantage of the grill and fire pit on the river. PS. Fishing was great too! We left Seward with 227 lbs of Salmon, Halibut and Ling Cod. A real treat for a bunch of guys from Missouri. We'll be back......
We arrived to a rather run down looking place, not like the pictures indicated. No stove, only a half working hotplate. Our commode was not plugged by perhaps previous visitor. No place to sit after a long day of hiking or sightseeing except for the kitchen table and with 6 adults, it was cramped. Couldn't sit outside without getting carried away by mosquitoes. Kept hoping to see fresh pastries as indicated by other guest who signed the guest book, never happened. Said we ould have washer and dryer, not there. Towels were scarce, one per person for entire stay. Place unlocked, and when we tried to lock our bedroom doors the door opened just by pushing it. Would not even consider staying here again. Too costly and not up to our VRBO standards.
We loved our stay at Russ and Jen's cabin, unfortunately we were only able to stay one night but would love to come back someday! Everything was very clean and each room has their own bathroom which is wonderful. The view from deck is gorgeous. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice relaxing weekend getaway!
I rented this cottage with my family and loved it! We filled the cottage with 9 people but having separate rooms and bathrooms still ensured that it was a comfortable stay. The views were amazing with Trail River being right behind the cottage and mountains beyond it. The drive into Seward took about 25 minutes and was very scenic. Overall this was a great place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone looking for some peace and quiet and a real Alaska experience.
