ELEGANT KITCHEN UPGRADE ADDS NEW SPARKLE TO BEACHFRONT JEWEL

Kihei Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Thank you so much for considering Hawaii, Maui, and Hale Kai O’Kihei for your vacation. With so many wonderful and exotic holiday destinations to choose from, the Internet bringing access to them right to your home, and vacation time and dollars so precious, we appreciate you taking the time to visit our site.

We've just finished the upgrade to our 203 kitchen, and we think you'll like the results. Complimenting the Kenmore 'Elite' appliances, is a an elegant new granite countertop in 'Tropic Brown', a lustrous backsplash in imported 2' x 4' glass-mosaic tiles, and a gorgeous Blanco double sink in stainless. We've moved to Grohe for the faucet, as theirs are the most reliable and aesthetically pleasing fixtures available. Under-cabinet lighting controlled by Lutron dimmable switches allows you to set the mood with soft lighting. And now, a 25 cu. ft. counter-depth Kenmore 'Elite' refrigerator in stainless, with door-based ice and water dispenser rounds out one of the most spectacular kitchens available at Hale Kai O'Kihei.

In finishing, furnishing, and maintaining our apartments 203 and 208 (www.vrbo.com/357582), we started from a simple premise: what do we like about where we stay when we’re on holiday? Whether we’re doing a home exchange, staying in a reciprocal private club in another city, or in an apartment or condo booked through VRBO, we want a place that speaks to intimacy and individuality.

We don’t like cold, impersonal, one-size-fits-all experiences, where the bare minimum is what’s provided. We want to stay in places where our needs are important, where our time spent travelling to the destination and the cost of getting there is understood and appreciated. We want to stay in homes and apartments where the human touch of the owner abounds — where the owner’s attention to detail and focus on our experience are always top of mind.

It’s all about passion. Your experience with us needs to be exceptional. From the moment you walk in the door, we want you to experience an ocean-front home away from home that is warm and welcoming. Perhaps it’s the colours, the cleanliness, or the carefully selected artwork. Maybe it’s the fresh flowers and wine. Or perhaps its one of the dozens of other little touches — like the beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, binoculars — that make arriving and getting started on your time off and time away just that much quicker and easier.

We spend a great deal of time listening to our guests and tailoring our efforts to their needs. The personal touch infuses all that we do, and that passion is fuelled each time a guest returns, or recommends our apartments 203 or 208 to family members and friends.

Again, thank you for choosing Hawaii and Maui, and for considering our apartment 203 at Hale Kai O’Kihei. We’d like you to stay with us, and experience our efforts to make your stay exceptional and to keep you coming back, whenever work schedules, family commitments, or the need to ‘just get away’ allow.

Now, information about what awaits you at Hale Kai O’Kihei and apartment 203 . . . .

Whether you are staying in our Unit #203 or #208, Hale Kai O’Kihei offers the Hawaiian experience you've dreamt of. Relaxing in Unit #203 on the second floor of this beautiful Kihei beachfront property, you will feel a world away from the stress and pressures of hectic Mainland life. Hale Kai O’Kihei, with only three levels and just over 50 units, offers the best in boutique accommodation and oceanfront experience — privacy and calm amid the sight, sound, and feel of gently breaking waves, swaying palm trees, and soothing ocean breezes.

Enjoy the ocean view from your private lanai. Swim off our beach in the warm, impossibly blue Pacific. Relax in the pool as you look across the lawn at the island of Lanai, framed between swaying palms. Sit on the golden-sand beach watching the sailboats and whales pass by. Or just savour another stunningly perfect Maui sunset from your special spot under a palm tree of your choosing . . . do all this and more knowing you are just minutes away from all the conveniences of Kihei, in one of the most beautiful units Hale Kai O’Kihei has to offer.

Located on a quiet residential street off busy South Kihei Road, Hale Kai O’Kihei affords guests one of the best oceanfront experiences in Maui, with the ease of grocery shopping including Times Supermarket (formerly Star Market), Longs Drugs, banks, restaurants and other shops and services a mere three-minute walk from our door.

Our one-bedroom, fully remodeled second-floor oasis will be your ‘home away from home’ with all the amenities you will need for the Maui vacation you’ve dreamt of. Kihei, located on the sunny, southern shore of Maui, is only 20 minutes from the airport in Kahului.

Have you checked out the calendar only to find that unit #203 isn't available for the period you'd like to visit? Don't worry! Just have a look at our listing for HKOK 208 at VRBO/357582 -- these are two of the nicest units in HKOK, and each offers you the Hawaiian holiday you've been waiting for!

Note to our guests: This is a licensed vacation rental, so book with confidence. As well, in renting this unit, you are renting directly from the owner, not an agent or third-party representative. We're like many of the guests we've met at Hale Kai O’Kihei over the years -- we've got demanding jobs, and put a lot of effort into our work. So there are times when we just want to get away from the stress for a few days, and get to a place where living is just easier, the demands less. That philosophy spilled over to our renovation and redecoration of our home in Hale Kai O’Kihei. We considered our 'perfect' Maui home with great care, then worked long hours in two visits over in the summer of 2008, and in many visits since, to make the plan real. Working with good trades, and creative suppliers, we've built the kind of unit we always wanted to stay in: top-end appliances, thoughtful colours and finishings, rich linens and deep thirsty towels, locally sourced vintage Hawaiian artwork, and all the details -- from snorkels, fins, and masks right down to tropical CDs -- that make coming to our place, and leaving it, the hardest things about visiting Hale Kai O’Kihei. When we visit our home at Hale Kai O’Kihei, we feel that we're settling in to the Hawaii we always dreamed of. We hope that's your experience, too!

Adam Leamy, Owner purchased this condo in 2008

We'd been visiting Hale Kai O’Kihei since 1997. We knew after our first visit that, simply, the place just worked. The perfect tonic to hectic life. It was the break we needed, the sound of the surf we'd longed for, and the sight of that wonderful, gorgeous blue Pacific that we'd dreamed of. Right from our own balcony, or lanai. And when that wasn't enough, a few steps across the lawn, through the palm trees to the beach, and that Hawaiian beachfront walk that helped put life into context, and tease out the solutions to whatever challenges there were. In 2008, it seemed like to the right time to buy -- the time to find if all the things we'd said needed to happen before we bought were just excuses, or in fact, conditions. Well, they were conditions! And with them met, we were ready to buy at Hale Kai O' Kihei. It's great that shopping and other services are only a short block or two away, but for us, that's not the real draw; it's the fact that once we get in the door, and put our groceries in the refrigerator, we're set for the rest of our stay. Sure, we go out to other beaches, and there are restaurants to revisit and new ones to explore, but through the many visits we've made since we purchased and remodeled, we've come to realize that our Maui home, decorated in the style it is, and set up the way it is, offers a remarkable Hawaiian experience, all day long -- from sunup to sunset -- and truth be told, beyond, as sitting on the edge of the beach with a glass of wine, long after the sun has disappeared behind Lanai, is a star-gazer's paradise, too.

We love walking the beach first thing in the morning, before the sun peeks out over the edge of Haleakala, when ours are the first footprints in the sand.

We love the way that in the mid-morning, the water just off the shore is dead calm, and is as many shades of blue, blue-green, and turquoise you can count.

We love watching the horizon out past the shallows, where the water turns a deep, alluring blue, when the breaching Humpbacks send plumes of bright white spray into the air.

We love midday when beach walkers and sun bathers take a break from the waves and the sun, seeking shade and sustenance, and a quiet falls over Hale Kai O’Kihei.

We love the mid-afternoon awakening when the wind picks up, the waves are more playful, drawing windsurfers and kite surfers to the shore and the challenges beyond.

We love the late afternoon, when the sun accelerates its race for the far side of Lanai and the lawn is a velvety canvas of yellows and greens, set against the dark slope of West Maui to the north, and a still-clear sky speaks to the promise of stars and far-away dreams to follow.

We love when the sun finally winks out behind Lanai, and those who have assembled on the lawn and beach to watch its farewell hug, kiss, or squeeze hands, in that knowing gesture which acknowledges that this one moment, this one sunset, experienced together, was what called them to Maui, and which they will use, in the years ahead, as the touchstone to remember their trip here, and why it was so special.

And then we love when darkness falls, and the two of us head down to the beach, lie back in the sand, and take in the enormity of the clarity and depth of the wondrous night sky.

Another Great Stay and Hale Kai O Kihei

This was our third stay at Hale Kai O Kihei, and we started looking forward to it well before our arrival date of March 8, 2014. We love the fact that the condo is right on the beach with a fantastic view of the sunset; but there are many more aspects to appreciate, as well.

The kitchen has been upgraded with granite countertops, and there is also a new fridge. As always, the unit has a complete set of cutlery, dishes, pots and pans, glasses and cooking utensils. The property is clean and, if there are any problems, they are quickly solved in a friendly, efficient manner.

One of the most important things about Hale Kai O Kihei, is the property manager, Francine. She is always busy doing something to enhance not only the grounds, but also the laundry room, stairwells and outside facilities. She is friendly, but does not stand around wasting time, chatting. She is out early in the morning, cleaning the pool, cutting the grass, or doing other work. We always call out to her and she never fails to wave back. Francine is the back-bone of Hale Kai O Kihei.

The condo is located close to shopping, restaurants and entertainment, but is off the main road, so that the complex is quiet. Furthermore, no noise is allowed after 10:00 pm, which ensures a peaceful sleep and the opportunity to have a quiet interlude on the deck after dark. (Great for star gazing.)

I would not hesitate to recommend this condo to any of my friends or family. It is well-taken-care-of, and the owner and staff are interested primarily in ensuring that your stay passes in the best possible way. Our next stay is scheduled to begin March 7, 2015, and we are already counting down the time.

Owner's Response: Your note speaks to the importance of the returning customer, especially in a time of so much choice, and such easy access to the information that fuels it.

Thank you for acknowledging Francine, our Resident Manager. She has transformed Hale Kai O’Kihei. The turnaround started within minutes of her arrival. Caring, considerate, disciplined, empathetic, skilled, self-directed, and a fundamentally lovely and kind human being, she quickly had the building and grounds surpassing the standard many of us thought was unattainable. Along the way, something else happened: Her enthusiasm and commitment to the very best experience a visitor to HKOK could have (and this includes owners, as we’re visitors, too) spread to many of the HKOK owners. It’s evident in the upgrades to apartments. It’s evident in several of the VRBO listings — a new, demonstrated commitment to quality and ensuring an exceptional visit. As a result, you can see it in the purchases of apartments by a new generation of HKOK owners and the vision they have for their apartments, the building, the grounds: to preserve, yet build upon and improve that which has drawn them to this ocean’s-edge respite. All this can be traced directly to Francine.

We were delighted to welcome you two. We were thrilled that you returned. Our kitchen remodel last summer was in no small way due to your decision to return this year — we wanted to make your stay better. That you have booked for next year is a reflection that we, Francine, and all who strive to make HKOK exceptional are going in the right direction.

The past year has been the most exceptional year at HKOK in the close to 20 years that we’ve been visiting. Our commitment to our core — our building, our grounds, and our apartments and the guests who come to experience them in one of the most stunningly beautiful locations on Maui — has never been greater. Do I think that the secret is out and that Hale Kai O’Kihei has been discovered? Yes, I do, and who amongst us doesn’t fear ‘paradise lost’? But I also take great comfort that our commitment to preserve what makes this place so very, very special — while ensuring it meets the needs of guests in the global tourism market that has never been more accessible, and competitive — has never been stronger, either, to which other parts of your note attest. This augers well for us all, as returning visitors to this enduring, renewing, and sustaining paradise. Thank you for a tremendous note. Adam.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Bill!

One of the unique pleasures in owning our places is being able to share them with guests that we also happen to know.

Bill, it was my great pleasure to work with you for many years, through thick and thin. What a treat it was to be able to host you and Ann, and introduce you both to something Michelle and I think is very special, and that is, for us, always the start of new adventures and plans. There are hundreds of people who owe you a great debt of thanks for your sacrifice and efforts, and this was one way for me to add my voice to theirs for your friendship, dedication, and leadership.

You two are a fine, enduring team, and I know that as you start this new phase of your lives together, you’ll continue to find and create the adventures that have made it such a great journey (and one that watching eyes admire and respect).

Hale Kai O’Kihei is always available to you, and you are most welcome any time you decide that the pictures just aren’t enough, and that you need to stock up on new sunsets. Thanks, Bill.

A Stay that Exceeds Expectations

When we first saw the pictures for this property we very impressed, but they cannot begin to capture the true quality and attention to detail that is incorporated in the residence. The facilities are very clean and well-maintained, as well as being very well-appointed. The grounds are in excellent condition, and the staff is friendly and helpful. In addition, the "quiet-after-ten" rule is enforced, which makes for a peaceful night's sleep.

The condo is located on a quiet street, but it is only a short walk to malls, stores, and restaurants. If you want to have a night out, you can easily do so without driving a long way. Furthermore, a safe, family-friendly beach is right at the condo's door step, and it extends a long way - wonderful for walking, hunting seashells and coral, or watching the sunset.

The owner was wonderful in answering any and all questions that we had. There were many little welcoming touches, as well, such as a bottle of wine and flowers on the table when we arrived. In addition, the free North American-wide telephone service is a wonderful idea, as it is easy to keep in contact with family and friends. (It was also great for telling everyone what a wonderful time we were having and urging them to make their own reservations.)

The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans and cutlery. The appliances (stove, microwave, fridge and garbage-disposal) function very well and there is plenty of cabinet storage space for groceries and canned goods. To top everything off, there is a table on the deck which looks right out on the ocean. It's a wonderful place to have breakfast and watch the world wake up.

There is no question that I would recommend this condo to friends and family. It's location, cleanliness, friendliness of staff and owner, as well as the price make it an excellent choice to escape a Canadian winter.

Owner's Response: A thoughtful, detailed review that puts me in Hawaii, on Maui, and at Hale Kai O’Kihei, on the ocean’s edge. The image created through your words is as close as I’ll be able to get to that lovely paradise for some time yet. But in addition to its perfection in describing a place that’s very special to us, your comment is so very timely and helpful to other Canadians considering a Hawaii holiday.
In the early 2000s, when Michelle and I used to visit Maui and rent a condo at Hale Kai O’Kihei, the Canadian dollar was worth $.62 of a U.S. dollar. That was an expensive time for Canadians who loved Hawaii, but Maui was always worth it. We stayed in a lovely apartment that cost a bit more, and the higher quality was also worth it. We learned a lesson, then, from a thoughtful owner that it was great that Hale Kai O’Kihei was right on the beach, but if the apartment was well furnished, appointed, and equipped, spotlessly clean, with amenities and features of top quality and design, there was a huge incentive to stay around the property and enjoy all it had to offer. And back then, if the apartment wasn’t exceptional in this way, it meant eating out for all meals and on the go all day, which could quickly break a budget when each U.S. dollar cost $1.50 in Canadian dollars. We met lots of folks who were pretty much forced to stay out of their apartments from sunrise to sunset because they lacked the features and comforts that made staying around this gorgeous property enjoyable and practical.
Your review makes a clear point: any apartment that offers such a direct experience of the beach, palm trees and golden sand -- but that also offers the quality that makes it a joy to be in the apartment and on the property for as much of the day as you want -- is in tune with all guests’ needs, not just those mindful of currency exchange rates.
The moment you arrive at Hale Kai O’Kihei, by cab or by rented car, and have crossed the threshold into either of our two apartments, you’re doing Hawaii the way it should be done. Our focus on amenities, quality, and comforts means that other than doing some daily shopping just a block away if you like eating fresh ingredients prepared in a gorgeous kitchen, or on an ocean-view barbecue, if you want to spend your entire holiday in the apartment, on the lanai, on the grounds or down at the beach, from sunrise to sunset, everything that you see, do, hear, smell, and experience is Hawaii. And that’s a holiday worth having! Adam

Great beach vacation

We are just back from a great week in Maui. Our accommodation was wonderful with an incomparable view. We appreciated the central location along with the top quality of amenities provided. It was extremely helpful to have suggestions of places to visit. Each day began and ended with a walk up the beach. There is nothing quite like walking barefoot up a beach and letting the warm waves wash over one’s feet, instant relaxation. It was hard to believe it was January. We did some exploring during our week but spent most of our time close by, relaxing. We had everything we needed right in the condo, including beach chairs, beach towels, coolers, freezer packs as well as a completely equipped kitchen and quality towels and linens. Our last full day was enjoyed on the beach at the condo watching whales (thanks for the binoculars) and soaking up the warm sunshine. Time goes by much too quickly when on vacation. Time for one last walk up the beach to see the turtles popping their heads out of the surf, and then it was on to the airport. Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your home, we greatly appreciated our time there.

Owner's Response: Oh, what a wonderful description of this amazing property and its location on the beach! You have captured its beauty and ease so well, I wish I could head down this instant! But not for some time, I’m afraid. Thank you also for making that astute — and for me, evocative — observation, “Time goes by much too quickly when on vacation.” I still remember our first trip to Maui — a week’s holiday that work demands almost scuttled at the last minute. We spent precious time purchasing beach chairs and towels, and a host of other items that allowed us to enjoy our brief holiday. The next thing we knew, our trip was at an end, and I deeply regretted the time we spent chasing down those items; time that could have been so much better spent doing other things, if only an effort had been made by the owner to ‘think like a guest,’ and try to anticipate some of the basic needs. I’ve never forgotten that feeling, and in both our apartments, we’ve tried to anticipate and put into place the supplies and features most guests might need in order to quickly settle into their home on the beach, and start enjoying their precious time on Maui. Again, thank you for a great description of how perfect this property is. Clearly, you ‘get’ this place. To me, an apartment carefully attuned to guests’ needs, in a building perfectly situated for beach- and ocean-front living is the perfect combination for the experience you so beautifully described, when you wrote, “There is nothing quite like walking barefoot up a beach and letting the warm waves wash over one’s feet, instant relaxation.” How right you are. Thank you for taking the time to capture Maui for us all. Adam

We loved our first stay with this owner so much a year ago that we booked both the owner's apartments for a 2013-14 Christmas vacation with our family this year. Both apartments are gorgeous, from the art, to the furnishings and fabulous kitchens, to the welcoming touches on arrival - the attention to detail and hospitality is impeccable! Binoculars to watch the whales play, boogie boards, snorkels and beach chairs, conch shells and lanterns for the lanai - we didn't want to leave! And we'll be back again soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you for returning to Hawaii, and Maui. One of the most rewarding aspects of making these two lovely apartments available to guests — and one that causes me to be just a little envious of their visit — is hearing the difference in a guest’s voice before their departure for Maui, and then a couple of days into their stay. I am always amazed at how the stress has just disappeared; clipped voices become drawn out, more expressive, and relaxed. For me, hearing that change makes it all so very worthwhile. Many of our guests are executives and live lives of tremendous stress and demands. These, days, those are the common denominators in the daily routine for many of us. To hear your voice sounding so contented underscored that everything an owner can do so that their apartment helps guests rapidly transition from stressed out to ‘checked out’ — even if it’s just for the precious few days while they’re on Maui — is the key responsibility in providing accommodation, and time very, very well spent. Thank you for returning to stay with us, and for allowing me this important insight. Adam

Notes:
Advanced Lutron lighting switches control overhead lights in the bathroom, hallway and kitchen, allowing you to set the light level to create the right mood -- set the preferred low-light level, and with one tap, soft lights come to life for a romantic, spa-like atmosphere; with two taps, full brightness. Casablanca 'Panama' fans with dark cherry blades evoke South Seas thoughts, while gently caressing with cool air. Bedside and table lamps selected from the bamboo and tropical 'Cabana Joe' collection are the perfect complement to the tropical decor. Outside, a lovely beachfront lawn, dotted with palm trees links you to the beach and blue waters beyond. When you want a break from the sun, but want to stay close to the water's edge, you can move your supplied beach and lounge chairs under the shade of rustling palms to read and relax, with the waves, whales, and horizon always in sight, and the beach just steps away.
