Beware Families! Read this before you book!

Date of Stay: July 2009
My family (3 kids) and I spent one hellish half week here last month.
Everything is as Chas describes regarding the wonderful setting, rental features, etc. However, his description leaves out one very important detail that makes all the difference, at least it did for my family.
This unit is situated above a dental (endodontist) office and you need to mind yourself and your kids. He eventually did tell us vie e-mail about our special neighbor the day before we were to arrive and we had already been charged for the whole stay. However, he did not tell us (perhaps he didn't know at the time) that the dentist is VERY irritated about sharing his building w/ you and has no problem sharing that fact w/ you in a very rude manner. Apparently, he has very sensitive equipment hanging from the rooftop that jostles easily. Seriously, any (and I mean any - we were enjoying outdoors most of the time) movement on your part sets him off. He verbally abused my wife (she was so emotionally upset that she could not come around to enjoying herself at all during her stay) after two days stay even though we took care to shush the kids about every 5 minutes (during business hours).
Then, if you do not respond in a satisfactory way to his chastisement and/or you call him to ask for an apology for the tongue lashing, he will not hesitate to call the police and demand that you be cited for disturbing the peace. He was creepy/scary enough to us that we gave up the last 3 days of our stay for safety reasons (I found out from the renovator that he has access to an interior door).
FYI, we did ask Chas for a partial refund (based only upon on the service that we did not receive) which he refused because of what he termed damage (and I would call normal wear and tear) to the property e.g. tough stain on stove top, small paint chip on the wall, smudges on the lamps, and small scratches to some of the furniture. Overall, we thought he was a very nice man but quite unfair and unreasonable in this respect.
So, if you're looking for a place to take the kids to let them be kids, I very strongly suggest that you look elsewhere!

My wife and I have just received notice of this review and are pretty devastated. We were not present when these difficulties took place and cannot speak to what may have happened. We do know the dentist has an entirely different story. We must also charge for (or deny refunds) in cases where we feel damage to our vacation suite goes beyond normal wear and tear.
Jennifer and I are new at this business. The Riversedge features hard wood floors with area rugs. We did not realize that a child jumping or running in our vacation suite would interfere with the dentist's equipment downstairs. Children will be children and we certainly do not fault them for that! We have therefore modified our ad listing to suggest the Riversedge is most suitable for adults and well mannered children over the age of 12.
After guests book, we now send a rental confirmation and agreement to them, informing them that their consideration of the lower level occupants is appreciated. Prior to remodel, I used this suite as an office for myself and several others. We conducted normal business activities with people coming and going. I never had a complaint from the dentist during all these years. (Of course, younger children rarely came to our office).
We have had guests compliment us recently on the setting, tranquility and comfort at the Riversedge and hope some of them may consider writing reviews. Jennifer and I have labored hard to attend to every detail so that your stay may be memorable, exciting and luxurious.
With simple courtesies and awareness that there are lower level occupants during business hours at the Riversedge, Jennifer and I believe you can have a delightful experience.
