Overview

Nevada City House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4).

Our 2 bedroom guest house, with a rural feel, yet only a lovely stroll of less than 3/4 of a mile to the heart of downtown Nevada City, is not just a 'vacation rental'. It is a meticulously maintained 1,100 sf home -- Totally separate, private, sophisticated, quiet, one-of-a-kind, architecturally designed, light filled retreat down a long and private driveway. Honeycomb Ranch is a non-smoking property located in a 'neighborhood' of 4 ranchettes, each 5 acres apart. Please read the reviews to see that our guests consistently tell us they are delighted to discover our unique, peaceful and comfortable guest house. It is the perfect retreat/get-away for a couple or a couple of friends or a small family. The master bedroom is located down the hall and is quite large with a pillowtop kingsize mattress and a sliding glass door opening onto a deck with meadow and forest views. The second bedroom is smaller but has a very comfortable queen size bed, nightstands and a dresser. There is an additional closet in the entry way if hanging space is needed. (See 'Property Details' for additional information.) The furniture in the living room is extremely comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped and the views from every window are beautiful. Just bring your suitcase. Everything else is provided to make your stay relaxing and fun.

Wake up to the sound of birds and end the night on the deck gazing at millions of stars. It is easy to unwind in this special home with its zen-like feel situated on 5 pastoral acres of open meadows, pine, oak and fruit trees, organic gardens and a picturesque old barn. Wonderful, easy country walks from your door abound and hiking is minutes away. Tucked away in a hidden place with such a rural feel, you will be amazed to find what a very short and easy walk it is past beautiful Victorians to the bustling, historic, charming Gold Country downtown of Nevada City. In combination with 'Twin City' Grass Valley, 3 miles away, there is more than an abundance of great restaurants, world class live entertainment, shops, galleries and museums to keep you busy.

If you are parents or grandparents with family living here you want to visit, it is the perfect spot. If you live in San Francisco and want to make a quick getaway out of the fog, it is just a 2 1/2 hour drive. Reno is only an hour and 15 minutes away and Sacramento is just an hour. Easy drives to come to a 'world away'! Anytime is the right time to make your reservations. Nevada County boasts a gorgeous, eastern style Fall with brilliant color everywhere. You don't even have to leave our property to see an unbelievable display of Fall colors. There are huge crafts faires over Thanksgiving weekend and there are classical music festivals in the Fall and throughout the year. Professional theater and our Center for the Arts concerts and events take place year round. In the winter, the towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley both hold street fairs in the month of December prior to Christmas and the towns are decorated to look like something out of a Victorian fairy tale. Winter brings ski-ing and within an hour, you can be at major ski resorts in Lake Tahoe. In the spring, quince, daffodils and everything else is in bloom, frogs are croaking and the river will be flowing. In the summer, you can swim in our magnificent Yuba River, hike, stroll to Farmers Markets, attend music festivals and just enjoy. Weddings abound in our area from Spring through the Fall so if you are part of the wedding party or a guest coming from out of town, make your reservations now. Staying in our guest house instead of a hotel will make the event that much more memorable.

The Yuba River and Nevada City's Scotts Flat Lake are each only 10 minutes away and the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is an hour. Reserve some time now to stay at Honeycomb Ranch in the Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall before it gets all booked up.

If you like outdoor activities, relaxing, eating gourmet food, theater, musical events including classical music festivals that rival San Francisco and shopping in boutiques, and/or sitting quietly reading a book or meditating while watching birds soaring overhead, you will enjoy staying at Honeycomb Ranch while taking in all that Nevada County has to offer.

About Nina Snegg

Mike, my husband, and I have lived in Nevada City for over 33 years and have raised four children here. We have lived at Honeycomb Ranch for over 22 years. We both love Nevada County and have taken advantage of all the wonderful things that there are to do here including sailing and kayaking on Scotts Flat Lake, cross country skiing, biking, hiking, and attending many of the cultural events on an on-going basis. Having lived here for so long, I can send you in the right direction for anything you would be interested in doing. Both originally from Southern California, we would never want to live anywhere else but here. We travel often but always look forward to coming home. We are pictured here with our dog, Barley, who has become our official VRBO greeter.

Nina Snegg purchased this house in 2002

Why Nina Snegg chose Nevada City

We chose to build a guest house on our property in a totally private spot so our friends and grown family members would have a wonderful place to stay when they came to visit. With our children now all living in other parts of the country, we felt the time was right to make our guest home available to people who are interested in coming to our area.

What makes this house unique

The best part of staying on Honeycomb Ranch is the tranquil feeling, the beauty and rural quality of being here and the closeness to town. Our guest house is a very special place, carefully designed to put your soul at ease. It is very quiet and peaceful and the vistas are beautiful. For us, it serves as a retreat and anyone who comes here and stays in our guest house feels the same way.

My sisters and I just spent a weekend here and had a wonderful time. We needed the peace and quiet plus or timing was great as we went to Nevada City on Sunday and they were having Victorian Christmas. We enjoyed lunch in town and walked thru the celebration but soon headed back to our rental. We walked up and down the driveway, we enjoyed the view from the deck, it was the perfect get away for us. We all definitely recommend this place - you all will love it.

Had a splendid time at Honeycomb Ranch. The house was very large, comfortable, and close to downtown. Nice decor and a really cool barn. We had lot's of fun talking to locals, eating and drinking and listening to an excellent music duo at Fr. Tucks. Ike's was good for breakfast and New Moon Cafe was super. Nevada City is quite charming and people are very friendly.

Great little cottage for a serene country stay

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is comfortable, clean and well appointed. The best part though is the country quiet setting and close proximity to town. We can't wait to come back.

Mother's Day Celebration

Mother's Day Celebration
  • 5 of 5
Three generations (girl's only) got together and stayed at this peaceful guest house for two nights. The house was immaculate and the owners paid attention to detail. From numerous books to read, to kitchen gadgets and appliances you rarely find in a vacation rental, to interesting artwork and beautiful linens; we found everything and more that we needed. The home has a deck that spans from the kitchen to the Master Bedroom; both rooms have sliding glass doors opening onto the deck. The lush green trees, grass and relaxing atmosphere encourages you to slow down and enjoy nature at it's best. The drive from the house to Nevada City takes just a few minutes. We visited the Empire Mine, which we thoroughly enjoyed and ate lunch at Maria's in Grass Valley (exceptional food, service and margaritas)! We also strolled through downtown Grass Valley and returned to Nevada City to check out the stores on Broad St. Sampled a little wine at Szabo Vineyards tasting room on Broad Street. The tasting room is unpretentious and friendly; wines are very good. If you decide to vacation at the Honeycomb Ranch's guest house; beware - the song birds will burst into song right around sunrise! What a way to start the day!
