Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Tim and Mary,

Just wanted to say thankyou for allowing us to stay in your cabin this Christmas...we had a great time. It snowed a lot, but the cabin is so conveniently located, no problem! A very Happy New Year to you both.

Nice pet friendly place to stay

  • 4 of 5

This house was very nice and looked just like the pictures on the website. We picked the house since it is dog friendly and does not charge extra for them. The home is in a good area close to everything. The driveway is a little hard to use, but lots are in the mountains. We enjoyed the stay.

Cozy and gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend in this lovely cabin for my daughter's 18th birthday. We had a terrific time. The cabin was everything it was advertised to be and more. It seemed every time we turned around we noticed another thoughtful touch. As others have noted, we did have a little trouble getting up the driveway in our little car. We had to drive around the circle and approach the driveway from the opposite direction in order to get up there but that was a very minor issue for us.

The cabin was beautiful, warm, well furnished with more than enough bedding and space. The beds were very comfortable with nice pillows. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and it was very easy to find everything we needed. I had just driven straight through for 10 hours and was exhausted by the time we got there and I just couldn't face going back down the mountain for groceries so we called Mary to ask about delivery services and she suggested I check the phone book. I did and found a fantastic delivery service called BooneTakeOut.com. They work with about 30 local restaurants and within an hour we had a hot, delicious meal on the table for a very reasonable delivery fee.

I just can't say enough good things about how lovely and beautiful, warm and comfortable the cabin was. The owners do a great job giving you information and preparing you for what you'll need to make your trip as perfect as our was. My girls and I have already talked about making this trip a new annual tradition and Pear Tree Cottage will be our first choice every time!

Great Place To Stay

  • 5 of 5

The home was really set up well. They provided some kitchen items for cooking, which made breakfast nice. The yard was big and driveway very easy to manage. The decor was also nice and the home overall was quaint. Did not bring a pet but they had food and water bowls in case you did. The fireplace was easy to use and made for a cozy welcome. Little things like printing the TV guide and recommendations for food and markets made the trip fantastic. Really close to appalachian ski mountain as well.

Had a great time

  • 5 of 5

Went up for Christmas and woke up to a white Christmas, good times. The cabin is well maintained and we would recommend it to anyone. Nice view of the mountains and very close to town. Also had some deer on the property on the first morning. I liked that they also provided us with the grocery store discount cards on the keychains to save us money at the stores, nice touch.

location,location,location

This gem is perfectly located just outside Boone and with a little backroad navigation minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock. Minutes away from great hiking and great food. Everything previously mentioned about the house is spot on. Porch, Kitchen, and a covered parking area.just make it that much better. The owners are professional in making all arrangements for booking, payments and prompt return of security deposits.

A few minor things take away a star. They would not prevent me from staying there again but I feel in reviewing they need to be mentioned.

Although this home is in the "country" it is close to one home and when residents are out and about there conversations/music are somewhat intrusive if you happen to be dining/reading on the deck. The home is also adjacent to the road. Very light traffic, only noticed if you are outside on the deck. For our 60 year old backs the foam IKEA mattress in the master bedroom and the mattresses in the second bedroom were too soft. On arrival you will find instructions and more info about he home. Here you will find the owners request that you dispose of your own trash and give directions to 2 locations about 15 minutes away to do so.

These last item are minor and would in no way prevent me from renting or highly recommending this beautiful home. I'm actually shocked to notice than none of the other reviewers mentioned these items. The point of reviewing our rentals is to honestly allow others to make decisions based on their need and expectations not on sugar coating our experiences.

Owner's Response: In the 26 years that we’ve been welcoming guests to our vacation rental properties we have never before felt compelled to comment on any review. However, we do feel we should point out that there is not a single “foam mattress” at Pear tree Cottage, they are all top quality, interior sprung mattresses. In the welcome package that we send out two weeks prior to arrival, it is explained that, as there is no trash pickup on our country road, we ask guests to dispose of their own at one of the two recycling centers on either route out of town. As we explained to Mr. S, we always try to accommodate individual’s needs, just as we did his request for an early arrival time. Had he informed us that he travels in a “two seat sports-car” before he had already ended his stay (perhaps by phone whilst he was still at the cottage), we would have been happy to make special arrangements for his trash disposal, as we did his arrival time. We will not be entering into a prolonged “they said-he said” dialogue should Mr. S decide to continue his extensive critique of Pear Tree Cottage. We just ask you to read all our other reviews on these pages and form your own conclusions.

"Cozy Cabin"

  • 5 of 5

Extremely cozy, comfortable & clean cabin. We vacationed for a week with our dogs & loved every minute of our stay. I wanted snow & boy did we ever get it. Snowed for two days over 14" came down. It was absolutely beautiful. My dogs loved the snow. Close to town, shops & great places to eat. Would definitely recommend. Plan on going back in the fall to do a little more sightseeing (since we were snowbound in the cabin for 2 days). Extremely wonderful owners to deal with, thank you Mary & Tim. You will definitely be hearing from us again.
