St Giles High Street at Tottenham Court Tube

This place is terrific. I go to London 3-4 times a year, but on this trip my wife was going for the first time, so we wanted a big convenient place to stay. My wife loved it, and she's hard to please when it comes to accommodations. The 2BR apartment was huge, with one king bed (actually two joined twins), and another bedroom with two twins. Perfect for family with kids. Two bathrooms (second with toilet/sink) on same floor between bedrooms. Plenty of closet/storage space. Very clean. Large BR has small TV that only gets 4 channels. No TV in smaller (twin) BR.
First floor has full kitchen with everything provided, large living room with dining area. Big TV gets about 75+ channels. My wife goes to bed early and is sensitive to noise, but she couldn't hear a thing when I stayed up with the TV on downstairs. Balcony is very nice, but there is considerable construction all around the area (Sept 2009) which will probably last for the next two years, so it can be noisy. However all rooms have double sets of windows (including sliding door to balcony), which when closed eliminate virtually all noise at any time of day or night.
Secure building with push button access codes and good elevators.
Excellent location, a two minute (block and a half) walk to Tottenham Court Road tube station, at intersection of Central and Northern Lines, at the east end of Oxford Street shopping district. If you want to shop Oxford St you should just take the tube to Marble Arch (1 mile), Bond St (2/3 mile) or Oxford Circus (1/3 mile) and walk a straight line back to the apartments. Of course many surface busses run the full length of Oxford St.
Leicester Square theatre/restaurant district is a 5-7 minute walk south on Charing Cross Rd. Loads of book stores on Charing Cross, as well as a couple of internet cafes that charge only one pound ($1.65) an hour. Keep walking another 5 minutes to Trafalgar Square. HINT: If you want to get on the Piccadilly Line of the Underground, it only takes 5 minutes to walk to Leicester Sq station, rather than taking the Northern Line to Leicester and then changing trains. From Leicester Sq it's only another 5 minute walk westerly to Piccadilly Circus.
Several currency exchange places on Oxford within a few blocks to the west, and they give the best rates in town. Large Sainsbury supermarket is a couple hundred yards up Tottenham Court Rd. Use apartment kitchen to save many hundreds of dollars.
A great place to stay.
