TORCH LAKE WATERFRONT COTTAGE

Torch Lake Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 6

Our cozy family cottage has 100' of private waterfront on beautiful Torch Lake. The cottage has housed our family visits to Torch Lake for generations, and we'd like to share our little escape with others. Torch Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and with one look into the crystal clear blue water you'll see why. We are fortunate to have a very gradual increase in depth for several hundred feet out into the water, creating a striking sight where the drop-offs signal the deeper blue depths of Torch. We have a dock that extends almost 90' out to the lake, with a 12'x12' platform at the end for enjoying some time in the sun. At the end of the dock it's not even 3' deep! Just down the road is the Torch River Bridge, near the famous Torch Lake Sandbar and Torch River. Just across the lake is the town of Alden. In 2009 we made significant renovations, completely modernizing the kitchen, bathroom, and living areas. And in 2014, a clothes dryer and mooring anchor are being added.

Golf Information: There are a number of top golf courses in the area, including designs by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. Some of the more popular locations include Shanty Creek Resorts with 'The Legend', designed by Arnold Palmer, as well as 3 other courses and Grand Traverse Resort & Spa with 'The Bear' by Jack Nicklaus and 'The Wolverine' by Gary Player.

Boating Information: Torch Lake is a great place to water-ski, go tubing, and do all sorts of other water sports. We have a 90'' long dock that can be used to access boats, although the water is still shallow at the end! Public accesses are close by. We have a mooring anchor that can be used, and local nearby marinas also offer overnight slip and trailered storage options that our guests have used.

Area Festivals: Harbor Days --- Interlochen Summer Arts Festival --- Petoskey Festival on the Bay --- Suttons Bay Art Festival --- Northport-Leelanau Peninsula Wine And Food Festival --- Suttons Bay Jazzfest --- Charlevoix Venetian Festival --- just to name a few!!

I've been going to the cottage since I was 6 months old, and spent entire summers there growing up. I am no longer able to spend such long periods of time at the lake, but the cottage and surrounding area have a very special place in my life, and hopefully will in my children's lives as well. The swimming, boating, campfires, exploring, wildlife, and nonstop summer activities all around the area can keep you busy all day every day!

Brett purchased this cottage in 1936

My great-great-aunt built the cottage in 1936 and our family has visited every year since. It's been our little slice of heaven! After completing some VERY significant remodeling work in 2009, including a completely new kitchen, new bathroom, refinished wood floors, new electrical work, and so much more, we decided to make the cottage available for rent, to share our escape with others.

There are two amazing experiences every time we go to the cottage. First, driving over Torch River Bridge and seeing the lake for the first time that year. The sight of the seemingly infinite shades of blue sparkling water is breathtaking. Second, when arriving at the cottage, the scent of the pine trees that surround the property. My wife has said that the view from the kitchen window (of the lake immediately in front of the cottage) almost makes one want to do the dishes! There is so much to do in the area that it was my own personal summer camp growing up (fishing, swimming, boating, hiking...). The area towns are great places to visit, and there are many great restaurants as well. We now have a long drive each summer to make it to the cottage (about 15 hours) but wouldn't miss it for the world. Our kids love it and don't stop talking about it year-round!

Cozy Cottage on Beautiful Torch Lake

Our extended family had rented a larger place on Torch for several years. My husband and I missed it so much we decided to look for a smaller place for just us - this was perfect. The cottage was exactly as pictured; very clean and well-appointed. The caretaker met us and walked us through everything (treats were waiting on the island in the kitchen!). This was a fall weekend and temps ranged from 80 to 50; we did not need to use the bedroom air unit, but it was there if we needed it. The heater in the fireplace worked great to warm up the end of the week. Beautiful view from the dock. Boat rentals nearby, although we didn't do that this time. We made several trips into Traverse City for restaurants and wine-tastings - plenty of great golf courses nearby. Wonderful peaceful setting, with plenty of activity just 30 min away in Traverse if you want it. Alden and Elk Rapids are not far and they're fun to explore as well. We hope to come back!

I stayed with my boyfriend and a group of friends (some who never experienced Northern Michigan) to escape work. We went to the dock 5 minutes after pulling up to the cottage. The view of Torch Lake was incredible! And, the cottage was perfect! It's very well maintained with all necessary amenities. Guests said the beds were comfortable and the bathroom is nice with the updates (I'm a clean freak and had no issues). Like most homes, friends and family gather in the kitchen. We loved the island in the kitchen. Luckily Mother Nature blessed us with perfect weather, so we spent most of time outside on the dock, braving the chilly waters of the lake (it didn't start getting hot until we arrived, but once you get used the the water you're good), grilling, and sitting around the campfire. The picnic table and patio furniture were a great addition to enjoying the nice weather. And, there were no pesky mosquitoes! Overall, it was a great vacation spot and the rental process was very smooth (never rented a cottage before). We all want to go back next year! Loved every minute! Thanks for sharing your cottage =)

Our family stayed here for five days and we loved every moment. The pictures do not do this family owned cabin justice. You will be amazed at the quaintness and tranquility that this home provides. We enjoyed sleeping with the doors open to enjoy the sounds of the water lapping at the rocks. WOW what an enjoyable nights sleep. Our children loved sitting on the dock looking for rocks and using their raft. The water was a bit cold but we knew this coming in June. The owner is very nice and enjoyed knowing that this is a family cabin from the 1930's Our children were not ready to leave. If you decide to rent this cabin know you will NOT be disappointed. Very clean and nicely kept.

Notes:
Brand new kitchen! Completely renovated 2009. All wood floors in the kitchen/main room have been refinished. All new kitchen cabinets, large kitchen island with seating, and counter tops. All new appliances: range, microwave, and fridge. New sink & fixtures. Cabinets and island were installed with very custom & professional wood trim work. We accomplished a lot that year (new kitchen, new bathroom, painted outside, refinished floors, new furnishings, etc). We've spent a lot of time and effort to modernize the property and make it a fantastic getaway destination. Everything was done with the highest care for quality craftsmanship and it shows!! We also have a private dock (almost 90' long!) right outside our front door with a large 12'x12' platform at the end. Note: Fireplace is not to be used at this time. Mooring anchor available and local overnight boat dockage nearby.
