About The Owner

Maryann and I live on 4th Avenue, just two doors down from The Berkeley Beach House. She is the owner of Mise en Place, one of Tampa's finest restaurants; I'm a corporate lawyer, specializing in the representation of private equity funds.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose St Pete Beach

When the property was listed for sale, we viewed it as an opportunity to restore a great old beach house, to preserve our neighborhood's charm and village character, and to share the magnificent Pass a Grille beach experience with family and friends (some of whom we hadn't met yet).

What makes this house unique

Berkeley Beach House is located just steps from the beach, at the very quiet southern end of the peninsula but only four blocks from Pass a Grille's lively 8th Avenue shopping/restaurant district. For those looking for more nightlife, the bars and restaurants of the many beach communities are minutes away on Gulf Boulevard and beautiful downtown St. Petersburg is just a short (10 minute) drive.

Kayaking & Beach Trip

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I really enjoyed that we were walking distance to stores, park, beach and restaurants. We brought our dog to the Florida beaches for the first time and she loved it!She played with the other dogs at the beach close to Blue Dog. We met alot of other pet owners. We also took her to Fort Desota State Park Dog Beach which is about 10 minutes away, I can't say enough about the park it is beautiful and offers alot of things to do there, but of course we hung out at the dog beach at the park. We Enjoyed watching all types of dogs, as well as our own, play in the ocean and catch frisbees. This dog beach is one of the few in Florida where you can actually unleash your dog and let them run and play, it was very cool. Elaine had dog toys, bowls, etc..at the Blue Dog, I thought that was nice. In addition, we brought our Kayaks and portaged them to the beach. What a Blast? We also went Kayaking near Fort Desota State Park. You can't beat the location, you're between the Bay and the Ocean and it was a great breeze. We enjoyed sitting out front relaxing too. The neighbors were very friendly. We will go back again it was perfect for us. Thank you for a great time!

My son and I stayed at the Blue Dog during spring break. Great spot for fishing and just relaxing on the beach!! Can't wait to visit again. The suite had everything we needed during our stay.

Little Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Mango Suite for four nights and LOVED it!! It's a cute little 1950's home with two decent size bedrooms (with lots of storage), a nice living room, necessity kitchen with breakfast bar, bathroom, and a great gazebo. There was two in our party ... and we had plenty of room to chill or work during our stay. The area is very quiet and besides the neighbor adding on to his house, no major disturbances - don't hear anything from the other tenants either. One note: the rental is cooled by three window A/C units, which are a bit loud, just letting you know if noise is an issue for you. The rental comes with pretty much everything you'll need to enjoy a great time - beach chairs, umbrella, beach towels, toiletries (no shampoo), kitchen items, and your own private parking spot in the back of the unit - parking is hard to come by in the area and a lot of permit parking only. The gazebo area was fantastic. It rained the first afternoon we were there but were able to enjoy the elements outside by sitting in the gazebo while it poured outside.

When Elaine writes "99 steps to the beach" she is probably spot on. This area of SPB is narrow and only about a 1/2 block wide from gulf to marina side. You can walk to all the restaurants in the area (most are located on one block [{which is four blocks from suite} with an exception of a couple that are a few additional blocks north). Pass-a-Grille (PAG) is a place to go to if you want to get away from life, relax, not have a care in the world, and just chill. There is no "night life" or party scene. The beach is quiet compared to the others parts of SPB--Saturday was the busiest and even then you weren't sitting right next to other people. The beach is very clean and is the soft white powder sand--with A LOT of seashells.

Elaine recommended The Seahorse Restaurant for breakfast ... HIGHLY recommend it. We walked there every morning for breakfast. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is outstanding. Try the corn beef hash and grits -- us northerners can't get that stuff back home. :) If you want outdoor seating, get there at 8:00 (when they open).

From the start Elaine was responsive to emails and answered all my questions in a timely manner. We ran into an issue while there, I called Elaine and she was working on it immediately.

We will DEFINITELY be back to PAG and be staying at the Mango Suite. Great rental and vacation.

Perfect Getaway

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here. It was a studio with the perfect space! We could see the beach from our bathroom window! Such a wonderful location for the perfect price. We have decided to make this a tradition and will be back every year!

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed a number of times in the Blue Dog Suite and the Pass-a-Grill Suite, and found both to be very nice, clean and comfortable. The location is perfect for us, at the far end of St. Petersburg Beach, very quiet, walking distance to good restaurants, and only a few steps to both the beach and the inland waterway. Elaine is a joy to deal with, and has proven flexible and accommodating. We love this place, and will return again.

Mango Suite- Great Location

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is in a great spot right near the end of Pass-a-Grille with an "almost" view of the beach. Perfect for our family of four and our dog. The cottage was clean and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom necessities. This attention to detail is appreciated. We would love to stay here again! Constructive feedback: The beds need attention- they are creaky and uncomfortable and the guest user book needs a simple updating with clear instructions (not handwritten in margins). The payment and scheduling 'scenario' the owner has chosen is also a bit uncomfortable. He/she would be wise to review this choice to make it easier and more streamlined for the renter. That's it!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your constructive comments. We will certainly take them into consideration as we are always striving to make our great little cottage on the Gulf a better experience for our guests. We appreciate the 4 out of 5 stars that you gave your stay with us and we will continue to work to keep our guests happy and returning for another visit. I do have to say that we do the best we can with scheduling etc based on website limitations and working within guidelines and providing good service for our guests.
