Easy Boating & Swimming:
A walk down a staircase to the dock provides a boat slip with additional dock frontage for jet skis. You can put your boat and/or jet skis in the water at no cost at the nearby community boat ramp and keep your boat conveniently at the dock for the extent of your stay at Birds Nest. Nearby marinas also rent boats and jet skis on a daily or weekly basis, if needed. A 10’ x 10’ area at the end of the dock provides ample space for sun bathing or relaxing between swims or floats in the lake. The dock is located in a No-Wake zone, allowing peaceful swimming, floating (in the provided tubes and floating lounge chairs) and fishing. The No-Wake zone opens into a large cove that is away from the main lake and is perfect for learning to wake board, knee board, water ski or jet ski. It's also a great location for tubing with smaller children.
Indoor Activities: Movies, Books, Sports:
Should weather keep you indoors, there is an extensive collection of popular fiction books, movies on tape and DVD (video player can play both) and music via CD player, radio or your ipod/mp3 player. There are also puzzles, as well as family and adult-level board games. For the sports-minded, the lower level play room has a regulation, slate bed pool table with all needed accessories, a regulation fooseball table and a ping pong table that fits securely on top off the pool table. The play room also has its own satellite television, DVD player and music system. The private, covered balcony off of the master bedroom also provides a cozy, quiet respite away from indoor household activities on a rainy day for reading or just relaxing.
Relaxation: Hot Tub and Fire Pit:
The hot tub on the rear deck is convenient to the main rooms of the house and can seat 4-6 for a relaxing dip and conversation anytime of the day or night. Additionally, the fire pit in the front yard is suitable for evening storytelling, roasting marshmallow, making s'mores or otherwise extending a relaxing day into the night.

There are a variety of public-access golf courses within a short drive that span the range of difficulty and cost. These include: Tanyard Country Club (Louisa), Shenandoah Crossing (Gordonsville), Spring Creek Golf Club (Gordonsville), Lake Monticello Golf Club (Palmyra), Hunting HawkGolf Club (Glen Allen), Meadows Farms Golf Club (Locust Grove), Somerset Golf Club (Locust Grove), Lee's Hill Golf Club (Fredericksburg), Cannon Ridge Golf Club (Fredericksburg).
