We live at the 'Reef and Rainforest Coast' in 'Tropical North Queensland' 60 km north of Cairns and 15 km south of Port Douglas. It is a very convenient point to explore the surroundings with their natural wonders like day trips into the Daintree Rainforest, snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef, circle the tablelands, have a ride on Kuranda Sky rail, watch crocodiles in the wilds of the Daintree River and much more. If you come back after a day full of experiences into your accommodation, our swimming pool area offers relaxation and tranquility. A gas BBQ and Wi--Fi Internet connection is also available free of charge. Our air-conditioned bungalow is equipped with 2 single beds next to each other, lounge, table, chairs, TV, microwave, fridge, kettle, dishes and all cutlery. Last but not least we like to say, that we would love to share our little paradise for a few days or weeks in the year with nature lovers.

“'Perfect Home Base for Exploring Queensland Coast'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012
We stayed here for four days, right after arriving in Australia in December. It was absolutely perfect. The grounds are like a tropical paradise (the pool is amazing) and the bungalow is clean, comfortable and well-stocked and Walter and Rita are ideal hosts. Rita sat down with us for about a half hour when we arrived, going through brochures and giving us tips on how best to use our time, given our interests. Her advice was invaluable. She and Walter are also very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of their grounds and the surrounding area. The location couldn't be better, as long as you have a car. All in all, Mountain View Lodge is a perfect place to stay -- for a relaxing getaway or as a home-base for exploring the region. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Should we ever return to Queensland, I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

We came to the Cairns region for some diving and to visit Daintree national park. Mountain View lodge was the perfect place / base for us, close to Port Douglas and daintree national park. After a full day diving or bush walks it was very nice to come back to Mountain View Lodge to chill in the pool and cook some food in our 'outside kitchen'. The place is very well maintained and the owners Walter and Rita are very friendly and helpful people. Rita helped us book some trips and Walter knows a lot about the area and wildlife. Would definitely come here again!

“Quiet, relaxing, yet close to the excitement - just perfect!”

My husband and I stayed at Mountain View Lodge for our anniversary in August 2011. We thoroughly enjoyed the tranquillity of the environment not more than ten minutes drive from Port Douglas.
We stayed in one of the smaller bungalows which was perfect for our needs. The bungalow was exceptionally clean and very well looked after. Rita and Walter are fantastic hosts. They treat you as guests rather than just customers and are always happy to share their knowledge and help you with your vacation. Upon finding out it was our anniversary, Rita even picked fresh flowers from her garden for us.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay in Oak Beach and surrounds and plan to stay at Mountain View Lodge again.

Mountain lodge was an ideal place for us all to stay in comfort and with enough privacy to feel totally relaxed. It is position just out of Port Douglas (about 15 mins drive) to feel away from the hub of tourists but close enough to pop in for supplies via the supermarket as well as access to some restaurants. Rita & Walter were excellent hosts providing good local knowledge about all the activities you want to do as well as advising the places/activities to avoid. Great advice given and taken up.
The house had everything we needed and the gardens are lovely to stroll around taking in the many birds surrounding the house.
The pool was a lovely place to relax and we always had it to ourselves, even though there were other guests staying.
One day we had a trip to the reef snorkeling and Rita arranged it all and the bus from Calypso picked us up from outside our door. The owner of Calypso is a neighbour of Walter & Ritas! Great service.
Prior to arriving, Walter & Rita were very helpful with information on getting there as well as some recommendations for activities when we arrived. We felt like we knew them both before we even arrived, our daughters referred to Mountain Lodge as 'Walter & Rita's' long before we stayed.
We were all sorry to leave. We would certainly recommend it to anyone who likes their privacy and a beautiful place to stay.

Mountain View Lodge is incredible! The owners Walter u. Rita have created a private setting and made it one of the highlights of our visit in the area. As soon as we got here Walter a. Rita made us feel comfortable, showing the property and amenities. Being located so close to all major attractions and Port Douglas was very convenient. The bungalows are absolutely beautiful and spotless with everything we needed to make our stay relaxing. The area is quiet and private..... a little piece of paradise. Thank you for making our vacation special!

We had a fantastic week at Mountain View Lodge. It’s such a luxury to have a pool, garden all to yourself and to wake up to the birds singing. We spent one of the most enjoyable and relaxing holiday here thanks to Rita’s and Walter’s hospitality, the lovely environment and great facilities (internet, cooking, laundry etc) We hope to come back here in the future. Thank you!! Chika and Pierre Franc

Had a fantastic time here at Mountain View Lodge. Perfect place to see the beautiful scenery around Port Douglas. Just wish we had more time! Thank you. Zoe and Mark from the UK
The town offers good shopping possibilities, as well as many little cafes and restaurants are invite you to let the world go by. There is also a romantic yacht harbor, where you can start diving or snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. Swimming is possible all year around at 4mild Beach in Port Douglas. There is a net, which protects against the dangerous 'Bock Jelly Fish'. Water temperature is around 24 to 26 degrees in winter (May till November( and 30 degrees in Summer. At our Beach 'Oak Beach' (about 1,2 km) from here is swimming possible only in Winter. You also can book a sailing trip to a tropical island or sail into the sunset accompanied with a glass of champagne and a few nibbles.
Other Activities: Snorkeling
