Sol y Luna is a beautifully manicured tropical paradise, perfectly located on the part peninsula you want to be. The area is friendly and adventurous, Montezuma is great town and a short adventure away from the west side that you'll also want to explore. The property itself is pure and simple, has everything you need for a peaceful stay and its hosts are very much like family, ever willing to help you with whatever you may need. Will definitely be back to make more memories!
Bon Voyage ! :)
My husband and I, recently retired, spent an entire week at Sol y Luna. From the moment we arrived I knew we had found paradise--and of course any great paradise also has wifi! Patricia provided us with details instructions on the area that provided a framework to do as little or as much as we wanted during our visit.
On those days we felt super active we went zip-lining (yes, I actually did it!), took surfing lessons, walked to Cabuya Island, hiked Cabo Blanco, and took a snorkelling trip to Tortuga Island. Just as special were the days we spent thirty minutes watching leaf cutter ants, hung out with the capuchin monkeys or bought the perfect piece of fish from the local fishermen.

We stayed for four wonder filled weeks in “SolyLuna” a jungle paradise by the sea. When I say “paradise” I mean it literally. SolyLuna is situated amid several acres of tropical garden beautifully landscaped by owners Patricia and Simon to include 100 foot tall old growth native trees and 100 year old stands of Giant Bamboo. It is inhabited by a resident band of Capuchin monkeys and a roving tribe of Howler monkeys. On our first day there we were greeted by a white faced Capuchin standing upright on our veranda, gazing at us openly. That same day a Coatimundi and an Agouti came and stood on the path leading up to our charming bungalow.
There are two other rentals on the property but Patricia and Simon have created, with their landscaping and design, such a sense of privacy that for the first three days of our stay we thought that ours was the only bungalow on the property. The entire estate is surrounded by gated privacy walls and is set 300 meters off of the “main road” so the quiet and serenity is broken only by the sight and sound of the many lovely creatures that live there within the walls.
We had decided not to rent a car for this trip and, at SolyLuna, we were glad we didn’t! Just a 5 minute walk down the quiet country road the estate is on brought us to an absolutely beautiful series of mostly deserted palm lined beaches. SolyLuna is situated off the mid way point of a very quiet stretch of the 4 mile dirt road that runs between the town of Montezuma which has many interesting shops and restaurants as well as a reliable ATM that dispenses cash in either dollars or Colones and Cabuya, a small, delightful fishing village with a great bakery, family owned restaurant and a very good market. A local bus runs back and forth regularly along the tree lined beach road connecting these two. We would just walk out through the gate at SolyLuna, stroll 300 meters down to the beach road and when we see the bus coming on the road, hold up our hand and the driver stops for us where ever we are. He also stops anywhere along the road you wish to get off either for a particular beach or to visit a friend.
A beautiful place surrounded by nature and wild life. The cabin is lovely and had everything we needed for our 4 day stay. It was amazing waking up in the morning, getting a cup of tea, and just lay in the hammock watching howler and capuchin monkeys jumping from tree to tree. Never wanted to leave that place!
Beach is only 3 min walk and Montezuma is 10-15 min drive. Perfect home away from home. Thank you Patricia and Simon for being such welcoming hosts and sharing a peace of paradise with us. We can't wait to come back!
We stayed at this bungalow for 6 nights during our two week trip. It was AMAZING. If feeding wild monkeys and other exotic animals bananas is your thing, look no further. There was lots of adorable baby monkeys too that we could observe without another human being in sight. It was like our own private show. The grounds are breathtaking. We loved cooking our own fresh food from the market and fish from the "fish man" and relaxing on our deck and in the hammock listening to sounds of nature in paradise. The bungalow suited all of our needs was very clean and comfortable. The shower was lukewarm at best but if you time your shower for the middle of the day, it's so incredibly hot that you don't want a hot shower. The cool water felt perfect on our sizzling skin. We rented an ATV for two days (much more useful than a car in these parts!! The roads are not smooth!) and went joyriding around the backroads from Montezuma to Santa Theresa (beautiful!), Playa Hermosa (favorite beach!), Mal Pais, Cabuya and Cabano. Riding around and checking out the different parts of the southern Nicoya peninsula was easily my favorite part of the whole vacation. We arrived by taxi boat booked through zuma tours. They take you right to the beach at Montezuma from a few locations. We stayed in Manuel Antonio (also beautiful but much more touristy, worth checking out though) before arriving to Montezuma and the closest pickup was in Jaco. They had a shuttle pick us up and take us to the Jaco beach so it is really easy and convenient to get from the mainland to Nicoya. Once on the Montezuma beach you can walk right into town (off to your right if your looking at the beach from the water) to get a taxi (and get groceries) to take you to Solyluna. Cost is 5-10 USD. The taxis (beat up vehicles) here look shady but were all legit from my experience. We also used zuma tours to take a snorkeling tour to Tortuga Island (awesome!) and a zip lining tour which included waterfall swimming (also awesome!). If you are an early riser, take advantage of the beach being a short walk from Solyluna and watch the sunrise over the water. There are few things more beautiful in life. The owners of Solyluna are very friendly and knowledgeable of all Cost Rica has to offer. They were very gracious hosts and will make you feel right at home. When I go back to Cost Rica, Solyluna is definitely on my list of revisits.
SolyLuna is located: -3km or 2miles south of Montezuma little beach town where you can found groceries, shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars and more. Also Montezuma offers you horseback riding on the beach or in the mountain, day trip with boat to isla Tortuga, canopy tours, waterfall, beautiful beaches and more.
-5km or 3miles north of Cabo Blanco reserve, first national park of Costa Rica.On your way to Cabo Blanco you will cross the village of Cabuya, where you can go to see the fishermen and buy the catch of the day and discover the tipical Costa Rica life.
Other Activities: Birdwatching, wildlife photo opportunities, Nature Parks, waterfalls, hiking, canopy tour, butterfly gardens, sea kayaking, horse back riding, fishing.
Town of Cobano: 7km from the bungalows, where you can found, bank,ATM,hospital, super market and more....
