Spring Break Perfection
This lovely little place was perfect for my two college-aged children and me to decompress, hike, soak, eat and laugh. Great experience!

Great place to stay!
This place has two nice-sized bedrooms, comfy leather furniture in the living space, and ample space throughout. The hot tub was the perfect temperature and just a few steps out the sliding door on the secluded deck. The water pressure is good in the shower. The four of us had plenty of fluffy towels for the hot tub and the shower. The floors are a little creaky but expected in an old building. The location is great - just down the street from the bourbon bar (serves more than bourbon), and right on the wine trail. There is also a fairly flat trail nearby that is an easy walk. My husband and two teens had a good time and plan to stay here again.

Great, short getaway
What a cute little place! We very much enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit. We found out that in March, the whole town is closed down Monday-Wednesday, which of course was our stay time, HA! We would really have loved to try the bar across the street and several wineries that were also closed, however it was also nice to have no one around. I mean, NO ONE! Bald knob cross, the Cliff state park, the natural bridge trail...never saw one person. Still enjoyed great service at several wineries and was able to return and relax on the most comfortable Vrbo couch I've ever sat on. The kitchen is small, which I learned from other reviews so we decided not to cook as much and brought paper plates. Steve sent a funny quip about a pizza cutter when we checked in and there were 2...but not hot pads. hahaha It's always something. We loved this stay and have it on the list to return!

Perfect Girls Getaway
So cute, and perfect location! We enjoyed the wine trail during the day and walked to Bourbon Bar across the street in evening. Quiet and relaxing stay with everything we could possibly need. We will be back!

Property was super cute, but the beds were terrible and the pillows were either flat or super lumpy. I woke up sore every day and the hot tub became necessary not a luxury. Also, strangely un stocked - no skillets, no mixing cups or spoons, and no dishwasher. So we spent the entire morning doing dishes with one hand (i was injured) so we wouldnt get a charge.

About the host

My brother and I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.

Both my brother and I had very successful careers. His in the IT world of Virtualization, and I in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year, both of us would fly 125,000+ miles and see many places, countries and sites. Working with clients al over the country and beyond.

As we grew older and our 'success' continued we felt more and more that something was missing. We began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people we left behind more and more.

I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for boh my brother and I, and I never really went back to Asheville, NC.

Our father spent the year getting worse, and our Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois, and my brother to nearby Southeast Missouri in order to spend more time with our mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.

June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.

In the Summer of 2021, my brother decided to purchase a vacation rental and join me on my adventure. I now manage the day to day operations and we both work on our houses together.
