Excellent place to stay

After a scary taxi ride from JFK (tip - use the yellow ones), we were met by a charming Hank, who had been efficient and reliable in communication beforehand, and he immediately made us feel very welcome in the spacious apartment.
It suited the two of us perfectly for the next week, as we explored Manhattan and also got to know a more authentic side of New York in Brooklyn itself. Travel to and fro on the subway is as easy as others have described, and the local facilities are fine. There's a fascinating mix of people and cultures in the neighbourhood, which together with the distinctive Brooklyn architecture enriches one's experience of the whole city. Don't miss out on Brooklyn Museum - not as well known as some others, but inevitably much quieter, and with some tremendous exhibits (and the Botanic gardens just behind, with the best cheesecake and carrot cake we found in NY).
You won't find a more helpful yet discreet host than Hank, and the neighbours we met were equally as friendly - and very ready to stop and chat.
Subway route 3 is the nearest stop (Kingston Avenue), but to the north the A and C line is probably quicker to Manhattan once on the train - and it's also an easy route back to JFK, using the Airtrain for the final leg (no scary taxi).
Overall, plenty to recommend about this apartment, and we have every intention of returning in the future. Many thanks, Hank.
Owner's Response: You guys are awesome! I really enjoyed your company here as did my neighbors.I wonder where you found the great cheesecake and carrot cake; I should have told you where to find the best Red Velvet cake.
I enjoyed our conversations and hope you got a chance to visit The South Street Seaport. Thank you so much for staying with me. Whenever you return to NYC I hope you choose to stay here again. Your presence will be much welcomed.
By the way, your tip about the taxis was quite funny. The character that brought you here from the airport must have been very interesting; but... this is NYC, we have many characters here. Also, I am pleased you found it easy to use the subway to get to JFK airport. It's pretty simple and fast.
Once again, thank you for your visit. Take car and come again.
