Orcas Estate Rental Photos and Description
Estate, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)
Enjoy the ultimate in privacy and relaxation on 45 wooded acres surrounded by miles of towering Douglas fir and cedar forest. Relax in the eight person spa on the expansive deck overlooking the tranquil bay with a private mooring buoy for a 50 foot boat, enjoying views of the ferries, distant islands, eagles, osprey and blue herons fishing, and seals and river otters playing. Black tailed deer venture out at dusk, tempted by the three acres of landscaped lawn, gardens and woodlands. The 3000 sq.ft. main house and 1800 sq. ft. guesthouse/studio/office sleep 12 in five rooms with 3.5 baths.
The expansive master bedroom contains two vanities, a jacuzzi tub, private balcony and water and forest views. There is also another king bedroom, a queen bedroom with small loft, a child's bed in a nook and a full bath on this upstairs level. The guesthouse has two rooms with twins, each with a large loft above, a small kitchenette, a large play space, two desk areas and bathroom facilities with an oversized shower.
In the main house the spacious dining/sunroom and gourmet kitchen have been recently remodeled with granite countertops and new cabinetry. This is the perfect gathering spot for all the chefs to participate in preparing meals while enjoying the forest and water views and sharing stories of the day's kayaking, hiking, biking, sailing, scuba-diving, golf, whale-watching or deck-sitting activities. The large living room completes the great room area and contains the perfect sun-drenched window seat for reading, games, TV and watching the eagle, osprey and kingfisher activity.
Explore the oyster tidelands along 490 feet of private waterfront, miles of empty country roads ideal for walking, running or bicycling, a nearby Department of Fish and Game stocked lake, and the ferries, bicycle and kayak rentals, stores and restaurants only 2+ miles away. This secluded retreat is located in a desirable southern exposure area of understated, multi-million dollar waterfront estates. It is perfect for a tranquil escape and/or multi-generational family vacation, with its fenced landscaped gardens and lawn, sandbox area for younger children, park-like woodlands and beach area with abundant shorelife.
Orcas Island is the gem of the San Juan Islands, located in the banana belt of Washington State. It contains Moran State Park with 2000 ft. elevation Mt. Constitution, thirty miles of hiking and biking trails and five freshwater lakes; extensive yachting facilities at Westsound and Deer Harbor; access by scheduled or private air service or float plane; ferry service to the other San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island and the U.S. mainland at Anacortes, and Amtrak service to Mt. Vernon; excellent restaurants, food, wine and gift shops, galleries and artist studios, summer markets, a lovely library and small historical museum, and a full schedule of summer activities and community theater. There is an interactive children's museum and a nationally acclaimed skateboard park. Four well-established children's summer camps are on the island or immediately adjacent.

I have owned this house for over twenty-five years and at one time it was my full-time residence. Consequently, it has a fully stocked kitchen with all essential equipment, many children's games and toys, and is furnished for large family, multi-generational gatherings, of which we had many. Unfortunately, when all the kids and cousins got older, it became more difficult for them to gather here during the summer. We enjoyed having multiple cooks in the kitchen at once while visiting with people on the dining porch or in the living great room, keeping an eye on the children in the hot tub, and enjoying the expansive views. I hope you will avail yourself of a similar opportunity to gather here with family or friends and develop life-long memories too.
Why Joan chose Orcas
Owning a home on Orcas Island is like becoming a young camper again, but with all the luxuries of private bedrooms, bathrooms, jacuzzi tubs and gourmet cooking!
What makes this estate unique
I particularly enjoy the long walks along the quiet country roads, the utter quiet and darkness at night, the wildlife in constant movement in the sky and bay, the changing face of the garden, cooking wonderful meals and enjoying them on the deck, and the magical island of Orcas with its excellent restaurants, stores and talented people and the hiking and biking trails in the park.
