unique but not worth it

Date of Stay: April 2009
We stayed at Bauhaus for one night in April, it has a good view of Seattle downtown with space needle, does not have a walkable beach except when the tide is very low, there is a road between the house and water, with moderate car traffic, so you want to keep a close eye on kids if they are running around. The house itself is unqiue, as you can see from the picture. The rental management did not list the cleaning fee on the main page, instead they just mention you should call and ask about it. Be aware this cleaning fee does not really cover much cleaning, read rental agreement carefully ahead of time to understand what is and is not covered by. Otherwise expect to pay even more extra cleaning charge.
Owner's Response: As the owners of the Bauhaus, we are very committed to providing Guests with the best accommodations possible. Our wish is that we are given the opportunity to address any grievances during a Guest's stay, as we care about your happiness.
There really is no other vacation rental home on Bainbridge that has the quality of lodging and location as the Bauhaus. If you are looking for deluxe amenities, designer furnishings, and state of the art technology then the Bauhaus is for you! I am happy to forward dozens of past Guest comments from the on-site Bauhaus Guestbook that attests to its worthiness!
Extra cleaning fees are rarely charged. In the three years the Bauhaus has been in business, and over 120 reservations later, only three extra hours of cleaning have ever been charged to Guests.
The cleaning fee is clearly and correctly posted on the rates page for HomeAway inquiries. While there is a local "rental management" company that also rents out the Bauhaus, HomeAway Guest rentals are not managed by that company. That company books close to 50 rentals, each with a different cleaning fee, so that is why they direct potential guests to inquire about them.
Bauhaus housekeeping exceeds industry-wide standards. The contract that HomeAway Guests are asked to sign includes the following:
"The Bauhaus is impeccably maintained and housekeeping is per world-class hotel standards. The housekeeping fee includes thorough cleaning of house and sanitizing of bathrooms and kitchen, changing bed linens, laundering linens and towels, dusting, vacuuming, washing hard floors, general tidying, putting away clean dishes, cleaning decks, patio, and hot-tub, restocking linens and starter supply of dry, paper and soap goods."
The beach is absolutely walkable except for a few hours each day at extreme high tide. It is one of the few beaches on the island that is so accessible because it has no bluff. At low-tide the beach extends over 2 football lengths wide by several miles long!
Children are very frequent Guests at the Bauhaus and seem to have a great affinity toward it. We caution all our guests to supervise their children at all times for their safety, whether it be to prevent running into the road or running into the water! The yard is hedged in and the road is only accessible via the driveways so it provides a natural enclosure.
Thank you and we hope to see you at the Bauhaus!
