Vacation Rentals in Los Angeles purchased this apartment in 2010
The Grove, WeHo and the Miracle Mile are all in walking distance. Amazing 5 star property features with moderate cost.
This apartment was spacious, clean and had all the amenities of a 4-5 star hotel. Wifi was cheap for $8/day and it was actually a mobile device so we could use it outside of the property as well.
OMG Rentals biggest scam ever
In October we rented for 4 days a penthouse in Los Angeles. We booked this somewhere in April.
The phone contacts were multiple just to get us to book with extra discounts etc. so we booked.
On arrival at the office around 2 pm in LA there was a note on the door "had to step out please call ..." We did that and got somebody on the phone who told us to come back at 5 pm when we said that was not acceptable he told us that he would be there within 10 minutes and he was which is the last and only positive thing we can report here.
After signing some documents and paying with our Credit card except the cleaning which had to be paid cash... we asked about the internet we booked ahead. He told us that T Mobile had big problems in LA and that there was no internet. Off course this was not the case.
After explaining how to get to the penthouse we went over there.
When we arrived we found out it was on the 8 floor the tower had 10 so no penthouse. When we went into the now apartment we found it almost empty. One 2 seater couch a little dining table with 3 chairs and a bench. In the bedrooms there were no night stands or reading lights. We found out why we had to pay cash for the cleaning. They probably put a large part of it in their own pocket because it was not really clean. The kitchen was almost empty and we had to empty the dishwasher to fill the cabinets.
Of course we started to complain but suddenly there was nothing they could do for us anymore and they started to point fingers to each other blaming the manager and he was blaming his staff and the home office in Europe of which he had no number so he could only contact them by email. We asked for our money back but suddenly he had, after the first day charging our Credit card and taking cash for the cleaning, no access to any financial means to return our money.
We stayed in the apartment the 4 days because finding something else and pay for that without knowing if we would get a refund was not in our means also we wanted to enjoy LA and not driving around to find another place but what should have been an enjoyable stay in a in a nice place changed to let's get out of here and go to a restaurant or coffee shop which costs us also a lot more money.
OMG Rentals told us they would contact us and give a refund but we are still waiting. After our stay we did some checking on the internet and found that we were not the only ones and more people were scammed by them.
The apartment was very spacious and clean. Customer service was impeccable. Wi-Fi wasn't the fastest but it was adequate. We enjoyed the numerous international TV channels.
Welcoming staff, very nicely furnished apartment, with all the amenities.
Review (Part 2 of 2):
This is the second part of my review. The first part dealt with the check-in process of OMG.Travel which owns/manages the apartments where we stayed in Los Angeles. The location of the apartment on S Curson Ave is great. Hollywood Blvd and Universal Studios are 15-25 minutes away. Parking provided in the building garage, parking on the street easily available (for larger vans). The apartments themselves were not bad – however could have been cleaned better (bathroom tubs/showers had a bit of mold/mildew on the edges). Water in one of the bathroom sinks was draining very slowly. We notified the Guest Manager by e-mail in the morning, along with couple of other issues – however while she responded to one of them she completely ignored the drainage issue – perhaps because it was a Sunday ?! They certainly could have checked this between rentals. Anyway, the apartment kitchen was decently equipped (dishes, bread toaster, pots, pans etc.). The beds were comfortable – though if you want extra quilts or pillows you will need to take it from the office at the time of check-in (they also provide towels at check-in). Wi-Fi was available and worked fine. Grocery store (Ralphs) is within walking distance and so are a number of restaurants (Chipotle, iHop) etc.
Conclusion: Please use caution when booking through OMG is all I can say – especially if your arrival is after their office hours or on a weekend. They have absolutely no process to ensure a smooth check-in within a reasonable time for guest arriving after hours – despite what they say, “do not worry, a guest manager will take or return your call and be there shortly to check you in!” (emphasis is theirs): ironic considering the nightmarish experience we had. PS: While the Guest Manager did apologize for the “delayed” check-in, they did not respond to my request for waiving the late check-in fee at the very least.
