Guestbook comments from the owner

...We enjoyed everything about it; the space, the quiet, the modern amenities and the cheerful fire for the chilly evenings. The location is perfect for visiting downtown and for traveling from here afield. Thank you both for your thoughtfulness in arranging for dinner on our first evening and welcoming us to your home. Thank you, Rita for all your advice and touring directions during our stay. We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to return some day.

Great Home Located Close to downtown Santa Fe, wonderful owners

  • 5 of 5

I spent the month of March 2015 in this wonderful home. It is an easy 5-10 minute walk to downtown Santa Fe. A few years back I spent 4 months in Rita and Tom's smaller casita. I loved the location. So when I decided to come back to Santa Fe, I checked with them first and found the "big" house open for March and snapped it up. And I'm glad I did. Even though it was only me renting, I enjoyed having the extra space in the big house.

This home is very comfortable and welcoming. One simple thing (that I also found in the smaller casita) was a coat rack by the main door. What a convenient thing to have. You might not think such a small detail would be so useful, but it was.

The big house is well laid out with two bedrooms and two bathrooms plus a dedicated office. The office is something I really enjoyed and used often. The house and the entire property is well maintained. Tom was often out doing work like spreading more gravel in the driveway just to make sure renters didn't have to slog through any mud on the way into the homes.

The house was immaculate, well decorated and comfortable. It felt like a home and not a rental. The kitchen was spacious and well laid out. I stayed in the larger bedroom and the bed was very comfortable.

Amazingly this home is only 5-10 minutes walking distance from downtown Santa Fe. I walked to the post office, museums, bookstores and restaurants. It was wonderful not having to drive everywhere. I have rented vacation homes in 5 states and in no other rental have I found this walking access to a downtown area.

Make sure you check out the notebook the owners have compiled. It contains restaurant information, an urgent care location, places of interest, and it even has detailed easily understood instructions for using the DVD player in the living room.

This is a great rental, with incredible owners. I highly recommend the big house. Thanks Rita and Tom for helping to make my stay in Santa Fe a great one.

This is a home more than it is a vacation rental!

  • 5 of 5

We have never had a more homelike vacation rental. It was a charming place. First and foremost, the Casa was spotlessly CLEAN. The kitchen was stocked with several sets of lovely dinner and glassware; not just the usual set of four basic pieces. There was not a single kitchen item we needed that was not there. We loved that the office provided nice privacy between the two bedrooms and baths (great for two couples). The beds were so comfortable my husband checked out the mattress to find out the manufacturer! Unfortunately due to cool weather we were able to enjoy the outdoor seating area only on two days. We especially enjoyed having a gas grill and grilled out every night.

As stated it is only three blocks to the center of Santa Fe. We parked the car and did not move it other than for day trips out of town.

Rita and Tom were very gracious. They met us at the Casa to give us the keys and a tour of the Casa. They were available by phone for any questions and Rita was very helpful with suggestions for shopping.

All in all this was the best VRBO rental we have ever had. The location, amenities, cleanliness and charm make it a standout!

Wonderful casita

  • 5 of 5

I can only echo what all of the reviewers have already said... This casita is wonderful! Rita was very helpful and responsive. We rented for a week although we only were planning 5 days and Rita contacted us to say the next guests wanted to come early, so she was able to give us a discount on our stay. She met us at the casita when we arrived to give us keys and advice, and she gave us her cell phone number to call if we needed anything. The layout of the casita is great... Cozy but plenty of space, privacy and charm. Clean, well equipped, tastefully decorated, a great location. I would love to come back in the warm weather and enjoy the little patio courtyard. This is a great rental in a wonderful town.

Excellent casita

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two small daughters and I loved this casita, especially the adobe-style architecture and the yard. The location is perfect -- near the Plaza, but far enough away for peace and quiet. The kitchen is well-stocked with quality pots, pans and even knives -- usually when we stay at a VRBO, the knives are cheap or dull. So it was fun to go to the farmers market to get produce and cook like we would at home. The beds are very comfortable, the house stays cool even on a hot day. There is a nice public pool (Ft. Marcy) a block away that only costs $6 for the family per day. Rita and Tom are incredibly nice, available to answer all questions, etc. Out of 8 VRBO experiences over the last five years, this was the nicest home we have rented. Highly recommend!

Exceeds any expectation!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented 4 other VRBO properties in Santa Fe. Although they were very nice (I gave them stellar reviews), this one was by far the best.

Location: It is a mere 3 blocks from the plaza. We walked everywhere including the grocery store. Canyon Road is an easy stroll, the capitol area an 8 minutes walk, the Railyard area (farmer's market) 10 minutes. It is a short hike (up hill) to the park to watch sunset. The area is very very quiet. The car parking is behind the casita so one feels it is very secure. You can walk to many restaurants.

The unit: This casita is very well laid out. The bedrooms are isolated from the living areas so they are quiet. The beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are practical. The showers are powerful. The kitchen is a cook's delight! I, too, loved the gas stove top. All of the appliances were top notch. There were enough supplies (oils, vinegars, spices) for basic cooking needs. There were choices of dinnerware and glasses. This unit was unique in that there were actually empty cabinets to store supplies. Rentals usually use all the space for dishes and the like and I end up storing cereals and supplies on the counter.

Dining and living were comfortable. There are 3 TVs in the unit but we never turned them on so I cannot speak to them. However, the internet was available. Although it worked throughout the unit, speeds did slow down by the living room door. This is not a big issue. It was far better than in most units.

Rita and Tom are charming and helpful.

Tips for groceries: There is a deVargas Mall about a mile away. You would probably want to drive there for heavy items. There is an Albertsons (think big chain) which would have everything you need. However in the same strip mall, there is a Sprouts. Although it doesn't have some products (think Coke) I preferred it to Albertsons. It had more interesting selections and better produce (quality and price). After our first trip by car, we walked there from the casita. There are also Trader Joes, Whole Foods, etc., but you must drive to them.

If I ever return to Santa Fe, I will try to rent this casita again!

Sorry to Leave this House Even More Than Santa Fe

  • 5 of 5

We travel to Santa Fe yearly for business, and we like the town, favorite restaurants, favorite streets, favorite buildings, favorite walks, favorite drives. When we depart back for home in Seattle, we always feel like it's too soon. This time, leaving this fantastic large gem of a home was even worse than leaving Santa Fe.

The two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms are situated with a home office in between them for maximum privacy. I couldn't hear my partner's flat screen TV, nor her mine. Nor could she hear my snoring, an acoustic wonder.

The kitchen is large, well equipped with a fantastic gas range (I cooked each day during our week stay). The front yard is traditionally fenced in with barked posts, and while it does not look like all that much from the street, inside a little private courtyard is magically created. The living rooms french doors open to it for an inside/outside ventilation feeling. The courtyard add space to the already generous living room.

The broadband connection was good, enough for Netflix streaming, but not enough for HD programing. Not a problem. The parking is down the driveway to the back of the house, so you can enter into the back bedroom, which was very nice during the snow. We entertained business clients and associates for three nights, a grand choice of table ware, including cloth napkins, ceramic water vase, etc. made for a very styling impression.

We are big HomeAway/VRBO renters nationwide, and I usually don't comment on the "owner", but in Rita's case I will. She is perfectly balanced between offering help but not taking away privacy. I liked having her there to greet us, show us around, and swipe our credit card on her Ipad App. I liked the welcome email she sent us with little tips. I liked seeing her love for the house she once lived in, and her sense that we would respect it.

This is where we shall return for the next trip, if it is available. The price is very, very competitive compared to other places much further out from the main Plaza, this place is a few block walk. In a phrase, it does not get better than this.
