Guestbook comments from the owner
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay; wonderful views, charming location and everything we expected to hand. Easy to find on a dark night; the lighthouse was never intrusive but identified the cottage as we turned the corner. We gave our teenagers the bedroom and took the very comfortable large bed settee in the main room. This suited everybody as we all had plenty of space and they slept late and hung out on on the internet in peace. If you're used to self catering and looking for a quiet family hang out, then this is perfect. We enjoyed the local wineries and towns and took a trip to Niagara Falls which made a great close to our New York holiday.

My advice would be to stock up on food on your way as it was difficult to find stores nearby on our late arrival.

we spent ten days at this cottage for the most part it was the best stay we ever had on seneca lake the only downfalls was the big party at the motel down the street on saturday cars lined up down the road all day and blocked the dock and lake view our stay was still excellent we did feel it was priced a little high but we still thank you for a great gettaway

Pass this rental property by; poorly maintained.

  • 1 of 5
We arrived on Friday afternoon and noticed immediately that the grounds of the property were not well maintained. The grass was high, there were weeds growing around the perimeter of the cottage and adjacent building, and the flowerbeds were choked with weeds. The back patio, picnic table and grill were covered in leaves and hadn't been cleaned in some time. Entering the cottage we were immediately confronted with the smell of mold, mildew and "old." The interior and furnishings were very dated and clearly hadn't been cleaned for quite some time. The cabinets and closets are full of the owner's personal items; the cottage isn't really set up as a rental. The kitchen cabinets are a collection of old plastic cups, a mix of plates and other serving ware. Mold was growing around the base of the toilet where an old rug had been installed to cover it. The electric heater in the bedroom kept tripping the circuit breaker (which took us a while to find). We contacted the owner of the cottage (who lives in Florida) and she refunded our money except for the one night we stayed there. We were fortunate to find another open rental nearby that was clean, neat, well-maintained and the same weekly cost. There are several rentals within a mile or two of this cottage that are similarly priced and are in much better condition. This cottage needs a very thorough cleaning, a lot of repairs and some updating to command the fee that the owner is charging. We loved our time on Seneca Lake but, were disappointed that it started off so poorly.

Owner's Response: I have struggled with an appropriate response to this devastating review and at the end of the day, can only thank you for the character building opportunity.
I look forward to welcoming guests who want to stay in a family owned and managed cottage rental and am so thankful for the reviews provided by those who have enjoyed their stay at my cottage over the last five years enough to provide truthful reviews of their experiences.

Absolutely Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5
This trip was amazing! The cottage was extremely easy to find, and was more than we could have hoped for. It had everything we could have needed, plus a few lovely surprises (the "fireplace" in the bedroom, for example - once I realized it wasn't a TV set!) It was also a nice touch to have a note from Ann Marie welcoming us, and letting us know that we were free to use whatever we found in the fridge or pantry. We spent our days visiting the wineries around Seneca, and we spent our nights sitting by the firepit (when is didn't rain), or sitting in the screened in porch, watching the thunderstorms roll across the lake. Kathy was such a pleasure to work with in securing our vacation. She quickly answered all the questions I had (and goodness knows I had plenty of them!) I'd definitely recommend staying at Cotter's Cove for a peaceful getaway. We are :)

Great Vacation Cottage

  • 5 of 5
We competely enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was nice to just sit in the yard and look out across Seneca Lake. We visited several of the museums in this area (Rockwell Western Art, Corning Glass, Glenn Curtiss, and others). There are many wineries and very interesting small towns to visit. The Antique Inn near Penn Yan is a must do for dinner. Unfortunaty we were not able to try the neighboring Rainbow Cove and Showboat restaurants as they closed for the season just before our visit. Our golden retriever really liked the screened-in front porch, looking out the bottom opening in the rear dutch door, and our walks along the lake shore. Kathy was hepeful in every way. She was able to get us into the cottage on very short notice. This is a quaint, clean and well equiped cottage with a large yard and a private dock. We highly recommend this cottage for anyone planning to visit this area.

Received the serenity I needed

  • 4 of 5
Overall, this was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations I've had. The owners were more than accommodating, and I know I am not the easiest renter to deal with. The views from the front porch were stunning, and if you happen to find yourself up too early in the morning, don't fear because the sunrises are breathtaking!! You may even see a blue heron hanging out on the docks, and nothing is better to wake up to than the sound of birds and waves splashing against the docks. We did some wine tasting, saw the Corning glass museum, and visited Watkins Glen all within 20 minutes from the cottage. Canoe rentals are a must, but don't flip it like we did! The only drawback was the weeds in the water, which made it hard to swim. My daughter got to go in off the dock and then we would pull her out, maybe a ladder would've helped? Either way, that did nothing to put a damper on our stay. I feel relaxed and empowered to go back t work and get thins done, and that is the true purpose of a vacation, right? I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for peace and serenity!!
