Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing the cottage with us!

The photos don't do it justice!! (As you already know, we have booked again for later this summer- and I'm quite sure in the fall as well..)

The memories made will never be forgotten - trying to get a fire started only to have a thunderstorm knock it out-then the wind-then rain again, made for lovely sleeping at night. Your location is fantastic in relation to our favorite wineries. We typically vacation in Boston, but after a few days in this perfectly relaxing area, we think you have converted us! Thanks Again!! (I think I can survive the last three weeks of teaching Pre-K now!)

we spent ten days at this cottage for the most part it was the best stay we ever had on seneca lake the only downfalls was the big party at the motel down the street on saturday cars lined up down the road all day and blocked the dock and lake view our stay was still excellent we did feel it was priced a little high but we still thank you for a great gettaway

Nice cottage on the lake

  • 4 of 5
This is a nice cottage on Seneca Lake with a great view of the water. The owner was very easy to work with, and was willing to allow us to bring our cat along on our vacation. The property was clean and well maintained, but could use a little updating. During our stay we dined at Rainbow Cove and the food was very good. Other dining options were a bit further away, either in Watkins Glen or Geneva. We found a great food market in Penn Yan along with the Penn Yan Diner. We had a pleasant stay, and would recommend this property to others wanting to stay in the Watkins Glen area.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5
Our second vacation at this quaint cottage in the beautiful Finger Lakes on Seneca Lake.
Very clean and spacious with a wonderful big yard and view of the lake.
Close to many wineries and Watkins Glen. Plenty to do or just sit and relax.
Two restaurants within walking distance or have your own BBQ.
Get up in the morning and enjoy your coffee on the porch and watch the Blue Heron's and the ducks. Beautiful sunrises/ sunsets.
We would highly recommend this lovely cottage for a wonderful vacation!

So great the first time, we had to come back!

  • 5 of 5
We had such a lovely time on our first visit to Cotter's Cove, we decided to book it (literally while we were driving home!) for a second visit in July, and it didn't disappoint. Once again, the cabin was cozy, with a homey feeling that you don't get in most places, and certainly not in a hotel/motel environment. We appreciate that the cabin comes fully equipped with all the kitchen essentials, and it's also very nice to not have to run to the store to get anything right away.

The cabin itself was very clean, and obviously ready for our arrival. Fans were provided, as well as the A/C unit in the bedroom, but fortunately enough, the nights were cool enough that we only needed to open the windows for a lovely breeze from the lake. Outside was as neat and tidy as we remember it, with the grill once again being used WAY more than the stove inside (but we are grillers by nature...) We enjoyed sitting outside early in the morning and at night (and had great fun watching the gentleman down the road and his black lab playing the in the lake.)

Overall, any stay at the lake is ultimately what you make of it, but when you have a place as well kept and friendly as Cotter's Cove to stay in, it makes it that much better.

Pass this rental property by; poorly maintained.

  • 1 of 5
We arrived on Friday afternoon and noticed immediately that the grounds of the property were not well maintained. The grass was high, there were weeds growing around the perimeter of the cottage and adjacent building, and the flowerbeds were choked with weeds. The back patio, picnic table and grill were covered in leaves and hadn't been cleaned in some time. Entering the cottage we were immediately confronted with the smell of mold, mildew and "old." The interior and furnishings were very dated and clearly hadn't been cleaned for quite some time. The cabinets and closets are full of the owner's personal items; the cottage isn't really set up as a rental. The kitchen cabinets are a collection of old plastic cups, a mix of plates and other serving ware. Mold was growing around the base of the toilet where an old rug had been installed to cover it. The electric heater in the bedroom kept tripping the circuit breaker (which took us a while to find). We contacted the owner of the cottage (who lives in Florida) and she refunded our money except for the one night we stayed there. We were fortunate to find another open rental nearby that was clean, neat, well-maintained and the same weekly cost. There are several rentals within a mile or two of this cottage that are similarly priced and are in much better condition. This cottage needs a very thorough cleaning, a lot of repairs and some updating to command the fee that the owner is charging. We loved our time on Seneca Lake but, were disappointed that it started off so poorly.

Owner's Response: Please take into consideration the reviews of my previous guests.
The kitchen cabinets are well stocked with serving bowls and baking/cook ware, pots and pans. The china cabinet in the dining room is full of matching dishes, glassware and silverware.
There is no mold in the bathroom or anywhere else..the bottom of the toilet has carpet glue from an old do it yourself project. There is a soft spot from water damage 15 yrs ago but it's been checked and rechecked and there is no mold or mildew..it's CARPET GLUE. If you open the windows you will bring a musty smell inside due to the proximity of the lake and vegetation on the hill behind my cottage when the weather is humid.
There is a portable fireplace heater in the bedroom that you will need to follow the instructions for use, or you will trip the breaker.
The lawn is serviced every Tuesday, unless it rains.
The cottage is cleaned in between each guest departure and arrival.
The water comes from a well and sometimes there is an odor. I have since installed a charcoal filter to mitigate. This summer was extremely hot, humid and rainy. It is critical, we have learned, to keep the AC on between guests.
I look forward to welcoming guests to my family owned and managed cottage rental and am so thankful for the reviews provided by those who have enjoyed their stay at my cottage over the last seven years enough to provide comments about their vacation experiences.

Absolutely Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5
This trip was amazing! The cottage was extremely easy to find, and was more than we could have hoped for. It had everything we could have needed, plus a few lovely surprises (the "fireplace" in the bedroom, for example - once I realized it wasn't a TV set!) It was also a nice touch to have a note from Ann Marie welcoming us, and letting us know that we were free to use whatever we found in the fridge or pantry. We spent our days visiting the wineries around Seneca, and we spent our nights sitting by the firepit (when is didn't rain), or sitting in the screened in porch, watching the thunderstorms roll across the lake. Kathy was such a pleasure to work with in securing our vacation. She quickly answered all the questions I had (and goodness knows I had plenty of them!) I'd definitely recommend staying at Cotter's Cove for a peaceful getaway. We are :)
